http://goatbuilt.com/wp-content/uplo...10-600x400.jpg As with all these builds, i've been uber jealous of all the amazing builds, so i've started to collect parts to build a 2.2 Ultra4 rig. Plans: First chassis will be an Goat Ibex chassis (Thanks to Harley for providing the templates) I'll be pulling as many doner parts as i can from my Deadbolt (Axles, links, possibly trans, esc and motor until i can go with the MMP and ROC412) Power: mamba max pro (et-3s) "Pro4 4000kv 2-3s lipo Axles: AR60 axles Beef tubes Axial universals Vanquish Stage 1 knuckls and hubs Axial HD Gears Hot Racing spools Chassis: Custom tube chassis 3/16 tube brazed using wraith skidplate DIY 3/16" stainless rod upper and lower links Traxxas Big Bores with JeepinDoug's mini-t spring cups Trans: Plastic housing for now Hot Racing steel gears Crawler Innovations 5mm rear extended output 32p gearing MIP driveshafts D-Lux rear swaybar Wheels: I plan on running the current RTR wheels but will be getting the Wraith Trailready beadlocks and Vanquish SLW hubs. Tires will be staying Treppadors for now, but i plan on going with BFGoodrich R35 Krawler's Foams Crawler Innovations Dueces Wild foams This will be a slow and steady build with a fairly tight budget, so i'll be looking for deals as they come along. Picking up an oxy-acetalene torch from my grandfather this weekend so hopefully next week i'll have the chassis itself started. Here's how the project sits currently http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/...psphb6h08q.jpg green = I've got it yellow = I need to order |
Re: Tylor's slow and steady 2.2 Ultra4 tuber I finally get to update this. Still accumulating tools, but picked up the tubing bender from Amazon, angle grinder with cutoff wheels and wore brush, portable bench vise, and welding magnets from harbor freight. Also some fire bricks from home Depot. Current shot of my "workshop/spare bedroom" http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/...psywkyhv7r.jpg Printed the templates from Harley and started cutting and bending tubing http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4nmvo0ll.jpg Started brazing and as I during my first braze joint the oxygen tank went dry. Welding shops are closed till Monday so that's how the project sits currently |
Re: Tylor's slow and steady 2.2 Ultra4 tuber http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/...psekvkyozt.jpgodate Got the passenger compartment lower done. First brazing joints aren't pretty but they hold Overheated most every joint |
Re: Tylor's slow and steady 2.2 Ultra4 tuber No idea what its going to look like - but looks like a load of fun! |
Re: Tylor's slow and steady 2.2 Ultra4 tuber I"m using Harley's templates for an Goatbuilt Ibex updated the OP to add a pic of the 1:1 build. Didn't realize i didn't post one |
Re: Tylor's slow and steady 2.2 Ultra4 tuber Made some more progress http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/...psn9edfqix.jpg http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/...pskgaatwwi.jpg http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/...ps58g32mke.jpg Lower done (but still needs more triangulation braces) an the roofline and to attach the wraith skidplate Also learned that water boils inside tubing if it's sealed on one end and shatters silver solder out at me. So no more dipping tube in water to cool it |
Re: Tylor's slow and steady 2.2 Ultra4 tuber Tore into the AX10 Deadbolt for parts lastnight and attempted to mockup the drive train and suspension. http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/...psqcuvpsni.jpg http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/...psxsdxt13g.jpg Ordered an extended rear output 5mm from crawler innovations this morning as well as Hot Racing lightweight steel trans gears and 2 more 6ft 3/16" tubes. 2 6ft tubes isn't enough, shoulda bought 3 and that would have been about right. And found out the Wraith stainless screw kit i ordered didn't include set screws (mainly the 4 for mounting the lower links to the wraith skid) so i had to use tooth picks for mockup. Also rec'd my Carter Fab wraith mounting panels and found i'll have to grind those down as well as shave off the lip on the wraith skid. |
Re: Tylor's slow and steady 2.2 Ultra4 tuber Hmm http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/...pstmvolalf.jpg Chugging along this morning..... At least till I ran out of tune. New tubing didn't one in Friday so that how it sits now Still need to do the last 2 hood bars then it's it's bracing |
Re: Tylor's slow and steady 2.2 Ultra4 tuber Thanks! HR steel gears and Crawler Innovations extended output as well as set screws (hopefully fit) for mounting the lower links to the skid and a 32p spur for this rig. Also my fleet is growing. Picked up a new 2wd slash basher and Castle SCT 3800 brushless setup. I've got a spare 3 channel flysky RX that came with my GT3C (since i ordered an 8 channel for the SCX10) so i'll be using the GT3C for this as well as the SCX10 (since odds are i won't ever run the 2 of them the same time since the SCX10 is purely a trail scaler) http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/...psmhmprstj.jpg |
Re: Tylor's slow and steady 2.2 Ultra4 tuber Uodatw: She's mocked up sitting on her own http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/...psnut3e66v.jpg http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/...psmor4exus.jpg A few more tunes to install and bracing as well as figuring shock mounts. But I'm super happy with the progress. Now I'll be majorly chomping at the bit for the mamba max pro and tekin pro4 |
Re: Tylor's slow and steady 2.2 Ultra4 tuber Another update. Hood bars, windshield v bars, roof bars, and rear shock mounting bar all next cut and brazed in. Also brazed in 3 out of 4 CarterFab tabs. Ended up too late to grind gown the last one. But I've got full flex of the ax10 shocks Thsoughts and opinions? http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8fljsrwt.jpg http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/...psxalisrxv.jpg http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8uf1cwgq.jpg http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/...psqupwoppo.jpg Full compression http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/...pszvkbipu2.jpg And full extension http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/...psl6qb2vjj.jpg Tomorrow I'll finish the drivers front shock mount then install the ae2 to get a running rig to see how top heavy she is |
Re: Tylor's slow and steady 2.2 Ultra4 tuber It's alive! Threw the electronics in just to make sure everything works as it should and it's good to go! Still need to finish support bracing but I'm happy with it! Also need to decide on batteries The 5000mmah is a bit large to go where I was initially wanting. http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/...psjnu807qe.jpg http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/...psd9kkovmw.jpg And family photo http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/...pszrqjjk68.jpg |
Re: Tylor's slow and steady 2.2 Ultra4 tuber Started bracing the rear until I ran out of silver solder. http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/...psu9k46vpn.jpg Looks like I'll need more tubing as well. Stuff goes quick |
Re: Tylor's slow and steady 2.2 Ultra4 tuber I really like the size! |
Re: Tylor's slow and steady 2.2 Ultra4 tuber I'm sure you guys are getting tired of updates but I like to post each time I've gotten to a stopping point. After running out of silver solder, I decided to go back through to try and even up my first joints. Was actually able to salvage enough solver to at least tack in the side tubes. I have the other side cut as well but used the silver I salvaged. New silver should be here tomorrow then I'll knock out the other side then mock up how I want to brace the front up http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/...psd733wqis.jpg |
Bracing I feel is complete. http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/...psope2bv8f.jpg http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/...psvo2vrklg.jpg And skid and shocks mounted but electronics zip tied in for temp http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/...psumbeokoy.jpg http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/...psihwjcmsy.jpg http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/...psle1syyta.jpg http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/...ps20nwb040.jpg http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8ib1w90e.jpg And the old chassis and new http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4bsrg02s.jpg Soooo tempted to throw the Castle SCT system in it but i know it's for lighter 2wd short course trucks |
Re: Tylor's slow and steady 2.2 Ultra4 tuber Saw your post in MNorbys thread and had to come find yours. Looks great man! It's cool to see the templates actually used. |
Re: Tylor's slow and steady 2.2 Ultra4 tuber Thanks! HUGE thanks to you for providing them! Perfect way to get feet wet in tube frame building |
Re: Tylor's slow and steady 2.2 Ultra4 tuber Looks awesome man! I'm thinking about building a rig off of one of Harley's templates.. this might be one! Keep up the great work! |
Re: Tylor's slow and steady 2.2 Ultra4 tuber I'm really liking this. Makes me want to build one as well. Great job! |
