it's funny because I was going to update this thread tonight.

the chassis is done and will be off to powder coat tomorrow.

here's some pics Hwheeler73 didn't post.

front view of chassis

pic just after all finish welding was done

2200 mah 3S pack fits between the engine cage and the dash bar so you don't have to tear the rig half apart to get at the battery.

MMP fits in the fuel cell to hide it.

engine cage removable

center console

the links and fuel cell all polished up nice

a fuel cell filler neck I made. Hwheeler73 will use scale hardware to hold it to the cell.

just some weld porn pics here

3mm screw for reference

there will be more pics when I get everything back from powder coating.

what do you guys think?

I don't think I could powder coat it, what would be like killing a Unicorn. Pick a color that won't hide the welds!

The color chosen was a candy blue for the main chassis wheels and skid plate to match his tow vehicle. And a gloss black for the center console pieces and filler neck.

Surprisingly enough the welds do still show detail under the coating.

I really wanted to Cherakote this chassis but I had a falling out with my friend that runs the gun shop that I use. The Cherakote is a much thinner material as well as stronger than powder coating. It would have shown the welds almost like there was nothing over them. I'll admit, I'm kind of bummed to have to powder coat it instead.

They aren't all that good and I'm pretty sure they wouldn't hold up well to scratches. Plus they usually come out quite a bit darker than I really want. Thanks for the idea though! If it was going to be just a shelf queen then it might just work.

Jesse,

I have't been on the forum in a while...dealing with my house, but tonight I had to take a break and HOLY SHIZZLE!!! I'm glad I popped in! I'm so glad you value my advice and when I said, "don't rush it"...you listened! This rig is going to be a stunner for a long time.

And Warren, I've always been amazed at your skills and I think your attention to detail and creativity just make this thing a true piece of art. Hopefully I can get some time to follow it along to the end.

Great work guys. You made my night!!! Greg

Thanks for popping in! I've been wondering how things were going for you! I'll be taking a month off of the road around Oct 15th. I will have this build together and trying it out then. I can't wait!
