Default Mattzilla Mantis U4 - King Turq

I haven't done a build in quite a while and don't get much viewing when I do, but here goes again. I am awaiting my Mantis from Lue that is on its way. We are suppose to be getting a U4 track locally, so hopefully this build will not be in vain.

I HATE PHOTOBUCKET!!!

Chassis: Mattzilla Mantis
Axles: AR60 aluminum VP shells with some VP and other aluminum dressings.
Gears: Axial HD gears 38/LURC FI spool up front and 43/VP locker in the rear.
Wheels: RC4WD Mickey Thompson Sidebiters 2.2
Tires: PB II with CI Deuces Wild tall foams.
Shafts: MIP
Tranny: HR SCX-10 Al shell with hardened steel gears and a 60t 32p Kimbrough Spur.
Motor: Tekin Pro4 3300 with a 10t pinion at this time and castle fan.
ESC: Tekin RX8
Servo: Hitec 7980TH
Links: Rear lower VP Twin Hammers trailing arms. The rest will be 3/16" nickel plated steel, threaded to fit Traxxas large ball ends.

And did I mention, I HATE PHOTOBUCKET!!! Their ads keep popping up over my links page so I cannot close it.

I'm working on the axles at this time and hope to get more photos either this weekend or next Wednesday. I only have computer access for photos on those days. Otherwise I'm stuck with my phone and 2 bars in the sticks.

I wish the Pony Express was a little faster here in Arkansas. I'm still waiting on axle shells and the chassis.

I have all the links finished except the steering. I will have yo say that it is my least favorite to do.

My chassis is suppose to arrive today. Along with some 100mm King shocks from a certain member on here that has done some exchanging of products with me in the past few weeks. I think my axle shells will be here next weeks some time.

I had issues with my trailing arm. So I tried some modifying to the skid to make it work. I've already had someone tell me its a Mickey Mouse job. Give me your opinion. Do you think this will hold?

I also found my wheels and tires bolted onto my son's Tundra yesterday. Looks nice, but I'll have to steel them back soon.

The chassis made it. Now all I have to do is bolt this puppy together, and blah, blah, blah. You all know the steps. I didn't get my shocks, so I'm going to build it with some LCC shocks for now. Tuning purposes. So my wrench is ready and so am I. But you don't want to read what I have to say, so here are some photos.

Those rear upper link mounts in single shear may not hold up very long. There is quite a bit of pressure put on them during driving. All you can do is try it out.

Also, raising the uppers out back at the skid may hurt your high speed handling. Ie, rear will be "lighter" feeling and fishtail quicker. I don't see a rear sway bar either. Those are a must , IMO for any type of go fastish rig. All that said, be prepared to test and tune.

Thanks for the info. I'll be looking for some sway bars soon. I'll go through some testing phases to see if I can break the aluminum braces too.

Yes, VP TH trailing arms

1/4" lower links - not sure who made these. They are some I had laying around.

Upper links - home grown to 4mm threaded rod and traxxas ends.

More photo updates. I cut out some panels for the sides, roof and the nose. I decided to have a visor point on the roof and use a scoop from a scrap body for the nose. I also threw together some links for the steering. The wheels and tires are just borrowed from my son's Tundra. I like the wheels, but the tires give it a southern buggy look.

Up next; servo, electronics hook up and paint.

How are you using a 10t pinion on the pro4? Cutting the lingth of the shaft and using one of the special hot racing pinions?

It was actually a 12t pinion. But I did have a 10t also. It fell apart as I tightened it. Must have been made from that lesser hardened steel, aka glass.

I forgot to take more photos than this one as I progressed. I did get a coat of paint on the side panels and the roof. You can't tell it from the photo, but it is a Turquoise and silver viser combo.Although all you will see today is the roof. I've also gotten my PB II mounted at this point. The Tekin esc would not stop flashing, so I grabbed a MMP off of my Jimmy, which runs a brushed motor. The wheels spin and the front wheels turn. What more can I want?
