For the tube design I am starting off by drawing it out on a big sheet of paper so I can lay out the design in a 1:1 scale. I could even use this paper to ensure I have bends correct and etc. Specs: -Wheelbase: 14" (Stock Yeti is 14.2" and my old Ford F350 was 13.5" so I am used to driving longer rigs if I end up driving this in Class Three) -Main Cab length: It will be 5" for the main cab from the front of the door to the rear to follow SORRCA specs) Don't mind Amigo, he doesn't bite. |

I had the day off so I did some building....lots of building...lol. I got a bunch done on the chassis, I am happy with the rear tube work about not sure about the front tube work. I thought I could get away with my simple front shock mounts for this weekend but will be make some fancy one in the morning so the front end compresses down like the rear. I usually sand all the weld down for pictures but I am in a rush so you get unsanded braze joints in the pics for now...lol. I will have the option to run a spare or not. Believe it or not but I got the rear compression geometry right the first time....the axle housing almost contact the tube work. I have a set of Proline slash shocks I might try to put in the rear for more travel...I assume the Proline SCX10 shocks will not be enough for big jumps or etc. I am running Axial hardened gears in the rear. I had a Yeti receiver box and it happens to fit in the rear tube work so I put some Tabs to hold it in place. |

I got more done with the front end and made some shot hoops. I might make some taller hoops, just not enough squat for my taste. I got some tabs in for the front and top Maddog light bar. I ran out of tubing but I will be making a guard for the top light bar. Uncompressed.... ...and compressed....lol....30lbs. :P |

I got a bit more done this week,.....I did the light bar brace, interior front/roof/rear bracing and made up a servo winch location...plan is to have a blower covering the winch spool. I am not sure if I am going to run the Hilux drivers, I think when their arms are on they might bulge out a bit too much for my taste. |

Here is a picture from last weekends WARCRC "second" U4RC race. I didn't get it running, there were still area where I needed to brace up tube work so it didn't get bent. It coming togethor though, I just have small thing to do, such as redo the rear shock mounts for the Slash 4x4 Proline shocks and bits of interior pieces, I will have more to post this week. |

This build is great. What type of tubing did you use and what type of welding—torch or TIG?

I got the brazing done...woohoo!! I wasn't sure how I was going to do the front fenders but adding some fab tabs and bars so I could mount panels in the fenders to keep mud out of the cab. I also brazed in a Carter Fab "Fab Tab light bar”. Carter Fab & Machine » Fab Tab “light bar” I also added some grab bars to the pillars. |
