overheating motor?
 

i have a huge issue with over heating motors super easily in my scx10 and ive already changed about 5 motor and gear the pinion down to a 15t. i was wonder what gearing i should run.
i'm about to order the Holmes hobbies crawlmaster expert 13- Holmes Hobbies LLC -i'm looking for a good amount of speed while having plenty of torque. right now im running prolines super swamper tsl 2.2 on vp slw v1 rims. soon as i put on these tires the torque was never the best. all the gearing in the trans/axles/spur are stock only thing ive changed is the pinion the esc is stock also if that makes a difference.
if anyone can guide me the right way on how to gear my scx10 i would greatly appreciate it!!:)

I hade once a problem like that, and it was due to tighten the screws too much to engine support, see if your motors run free firts with out the transmittion in place.

Our it can be another problem.

What he means is check your gear mesh, use a piece of paper folded once between the spur gear and pinion to make sure your mesh isnt too tight. That will cause drag on the motor and over strain it.

Also check the rest of your driveline for any binding or hang ups, and check it at different suspension angles. Turn the wheels by hand to check, and see what you can feel, do this on each wheel. It should move very freely and with little effort.
Your pinion sounds low so it doesnt sound like you are geared too high.

The last thing you want is to burn out an expensive motor :cry:

well first thing is go back to your gearing. Hot motor and cold esc means its under geared. So dropping to a smaller pinion just made your problem worse.

Hot esc and cold motor means its over geared.
Hot motor and cold esc means its under geared.
Warm everything is good
Hot everything is bad you need to take a break

Keep your motor temps below 180 if you want it to last any amount of time (a motor will run until it melts so its on you to check temps)
Keep your esc below 150 but it will last above that. Castle ESCs thermal cut out at 190(axial is castle)


Another note is how big are your batteries. you may just be running it too long for your setup

im running venom 5000 mah 20c 2s lipo and it only take about 30 minutes to start to overheat
there is no binding in the whole truck and i set the gear mesh with a peice of paper so it was right on

ive heard that with 2.2 you should put a 84t spur (give or take) and a 15-18 pinion. does that sound right?

i was also wondering could i change the ring and pinion in the axles to gear it down a bit more to keep it cool?:???::???:

What gearing do you have now? Try 87\15 to start and adjust from there.

right now i have 87/18 im going to try 87/15 then from there mabey try 84 spur

84t spur will gear it up, not down. If anything go down on the pinion. Not on the spur.

You must not have read my post at all if you still want to gear down. But yes you could put under drives in if you wanted

so what would be the best thing to do
like was turn motor/gearing should i get. I really like the Holmes hobbies 13t crawlmaster or the 27t torquemaster

im just not sure on what to get so i can run it without the motor overheating every 30 minutes
