I picked up a 90A Flux Core welder for $100 on Black Friday. I know flux core isn't the cleanest, but for $100 I don't think I can go wrong (also didn't want to deal with gas on my first welder - so tig,mig were out). Worse case I tack in what I can with the welder and then braze for a nice finish. I agree with JRapid, don't go too thick on the bar, I don't think we give the metal enough credit for its strength, also you'll want to keep your weight down.

Awesome man, thanks. The real ones are so impressive to me, that's why I love the rc ones so much.

That 90 amp is the one we started out with, really didn't get to use it much. Think we had it for a couple monthes before we went ahead and just bought our TIG.

So here's a little update I have. Like planned I got a majority of the front bumper on there. I'm going to put a gearhead 2.2 inside the front, which is on it's way.. Have to mount that first before I can make the panels and stuff for the front.

But I also got the front sway bars setup. Have new ones coming that I'll put back on the rear ..and.. I threw on some limit straps

Cycon, I'm digging the limit straps. I need a set for my 1 car build, but they need to be looooonnngggg, about 4". Where did you find them? Looking great as usual. Not to jack the program, but as for the earlier posts asking about aluminum for the cage, it will absoultely work, and be strong if triangulated properly. Cycon's truck is a good example for that. How is the body coming along?

Thanks man. I got the straps from Amain, they're vanquish. These are 3.75", and I think that's the longest thet make..

But I haven't even started on the body yet. That whole process might take longer than I planned so I better get going with it. Going to be intersting..

This build is badass. Can't wait to see it running.

Won't the radiator be in the way of your gopro mount?

Thanks man hope to have so footage up this weekend. Doing another update vid today.

But I'll take the radiator off when I need to use the gopro mount. I also still need to make the V shape bars that go in the back, but those will be removable too.

definitely subscribing to this! any specific reason as to why you used a slash 4x4 front end instead of one from a 2wd slash?

Awesome, welcome to the thread! But I used the 2wd front on my previous builds and I decided it was time for an upgrade. The 4x4 one is stronger, much more simple, and it doesn't have that crazy amount of kick up the 2wd slash has. Looks better too

(First post in a LONG time) Hey JRapid, SICK build!! Quick question, I know the axle you're using has been discontinued, but do you know of any other axles that are around the same dimensions as the one you're using, that will still work for something like this? I've recently been re-infected with the RC bug and would really love to do something like Project Zeus. Kyle

EDIT: Also, probably a newb question, but how do your sway bars work? I know that that sway bar set up is used on real trophy trucks, and I'm wondering if that limits the wheels moving independently (I'm talking about the front). Does the metal bar connecting the two A-arms actually twist and bend within the mount you made?

Hey man thanks! The only other axle similar in size is the wraith axle, but to get the ideal setup you would need a centered housing to go along with it.

But yes the sway bars work, and they do flex with each a-arm. With them being mounted so closely to the hinge pins it has a much less effect.

thekdk604, I'm trying the HPI crawler king rear axle with a bunch of mods. I'm following this post Parts Break Down , looks like it did well. Will let you know how it goes.

They're running straight from the reicver, it has a y-harness to power both from the aux port. For the pods I'm doing a seprate battery pack.
