Default Campbell style IFS U4

I started this build some time ago but, between having to move and getting a new job it ended up getting put on the back burner. I (finally) got the time and was able to start working on it again.

So, at this point I have the tube frame mostly done, the chassis pan done and he suspension figured out.

I'm not building this rig to be a direct scale replica, I really like the design of the buggy but I want to add some of my own "flair" to it.

im not much for words, so here are the pictures

framework so far.

this the the frame with the chassis pan all mounted up.

I machined out some battery cups at work.

really the only shocks that i could find that where long enough where savage shocks. there where not many options out there so I ended up with these Integys. Once I got them I noticed immediately that the springs where crazy stiff so I opted for two Traxxas GTR rear springs instead. The center collar is very sloppy so I may make new ones. The rest of the sock seems pretty decent for what it is, we'll see.

this is the basic layout of the chassis. Still figuring out where I will mount the ESC and the receiver, but I will cross that bridge when I get further along.

and this is as far as I have gotten so far. I just cut out the side panels and getting ready to start in the interior.

...Nearly forgot a couple roller pics:

Looking great so far. I love the forward stance of this rig design.

the rear drive shaft is made from T-MAXX half shafts and the front is from an EXO Terra. We'll see how well they will hold up.

I decided to try my hand at making a seat. I will try to get a layer or two of fiberglass on it.

Placed orders last night for full drivetrain upgrades so that everything will be able to handle the 550 power....now I just have to wait for them to arrive, which is the hard part.

I received my order yesterday. everything is getting installed right now.

The VP hubs I ordered where +.125 over stock width front and rear(350 and 800) funny thing is that the front wheels still rub on the steering knuckle which does not make much sense to me seeing as how the wheels come stock on the yeti with a higher offset.

...I have also made a new seat, one that is larger and fit the scale a little better.

been a bit busy. but, i have made some progress! I am in the process of making the front nose cone. It was quite a messy process so I didn't take pictures of the whole process. now it just a lot of putty and sanding to smooth things out.

here is the plug I used. it is carved out of balsa then coated with epoxy. then sanded smooth.

....and here is the nose cone itself getting low spots filled.

I really need to get the 3mm nuts attached to the frame so i can get some body panels on this thing. I tried TIG welding the other day and that went.....well(?) it was my first time, haha. I was practicing with a similar thickness stainless tubing and attempted to weld some nuts to it. It was successful to a point, just need more practice. Of course. my first time welding and I choose to weld 3mm nuts, talk about trying to run before learning to walk. needless to say I will continue to practice with it. but, In the mean time I will try to braze the nuts on in the mean time.
