| SuperDrty 2.2 - lightweight trail rig
Putting my G63 on the back burner for a bit, and doing a quick build for a lightweight 2.2 trail rig, with the axles from my original SCX10 Honcho. The bouncer struggles a little, and is a bit top heavy for our local comps, so I want something a little more competitive with a much lower cg. Most of these parts I already had, mostly stolen from some of my other trucks to do this quickly and inexpensively. Specs: SCX10 axles Overdrive gears for the front Axial High Clearance knuckles and CVD's Savox SW-0231MG servo WB8-HD shafts 8-32 all-thread links with Revo rod ends, lowers sleeved in 1/4" brake line Stock SCX10 tranny TSS skid (picking up from a friend with an extra one, he's out of town till the 5th) RTR Yeti wheels (wide hubs all around) Proline 2.2 Super Swampers (the shorter ones) Traxxas 2660 big bores Mini-t springs Proline 2008 Crewcab F250 body (leftover pieces from other builds shoe goo'd together) 1/8" aluminum rails Holmes BRXL and 35-turn motor on 3s Started propping the body and axles up to determine heights and proportion Then after grabbing some critical dimensions (12" wheelbase), drew out the frame rails. Transferred that to the aluminum And cut out and assembled with the stock skid for now All assembled, with battery and electronics sitting on the rails. This was before I installed the mini-t springs, and trimmed down 10-32 well nuts (thanks to nerby149 for that idea) for spring cups, and I still have to make the battery tray and a plate for the rest of the electronics. She's pretty darn light Shouldn't have much trouble side hilling, haha I've started shoe gooing the trimmed body pieces together, waiting on that to dry And here's the chassis as it sit right now And of course the mandatory flex shot I'll get the body all glued together, and start painting it over the rest of the week/weekend (off the rest of the week from work) and get the trays for esc/reciever and battery made. My plan for the rails is to just polish them. -Derek Last edited by SuperDrty; 07-01-2015 at 10:16 PM. |

Battery tray made, electronics plate made, and running. Did have to swap the esc and the servo, issues with both. I put a Sidewwinder3 in , and a Solar D772. The old Torquemaster (not BRXL) was not waterproofed, so it may have some water damage, not sure, both through the castle bec, or with the pin put back in so receiver gets power direct from the esc (bec unplugged at this point) I stopped getting power to the receiver. And the servo just stopped working Battery tray Esc, bec, receiver tray And rtr Now just waiting for the TSS skid, waiting on my friend to get back from his vacation to grab his exrta one. Now to paint the body, already got a paint scheme figured out... -Derek Last edited by SuperDrty; 07-03-2015 at 12:32 AM. |

Got the inside of the body painted, tomorrow I'll start painting the outside. After I lay down a "primer" of ps-5 Tamiya black, all the Rustoleum in the background will be getting laid down. Also gave it some local vanity plates -Derek |

Well, after looking at the cans of Rustoleum Enamel, and taking into account dry time (hastily purchased), I decided to not experiment with them, and go with paint I've used successfully before on polycarb bodies. Krylon Colormaster. It dries in 10 minutes (faster with heat gun use), and when used over Tamiya PS-5, has never flaked of on me, even when beaten on hard, just scratches and scrapes to give battle scars. Paint scheme hasn't changed, just the materials, to something I know will work. Yes, there's still a Rustoleum product in there, but it's of the fast drying variety, which I've used before. -Derek |

Body is done After the silver above was laid down, masked it off for black, sprayed, and then got it masked for red. Red sprayed Masking changed, and orange sprayed (turned out to be more goldenrod yellow than orange though) Masked for the white White down Un-masked waiting for satin clear Decals applied, rivet details done, and satin clear sprayed Windows unmasked inside and out -Derek |

This better Dana? HAHA! Wheels and tires are cleaned (they're sticky like new again!), and got the overdrive gears swapped into the front. Cleaning all the dirt off the tires knocked a few ounces off the weight, and brought it UNDER 5lbs! -Derek |

TSS smooth skid installed, allowed me to reinstall the spur gear cover. Added an ounce back to the weight, and pushed it over the 5lb mark -Derek |

Now that has a bad ass look for the 2.2 trail class. Your chassis design allows for more articulation than a SCX10 and thats very valuble. Can't wait to see it in action nice build. |

Started working on a new front axle for SuperDrty2. Narrowed AR60, by 28mm. This will allow me to easily swap the wheels and tires back and forth from it to my Yeti, which I stole them from. Wider than the SCX axle by about 22mm after narrowing, which is the difference in the hubs from front to back on the Yeti. The main reason for this though is the higher steering angle I can get, when axial uni's are installed (on order) Housing cut down, aluminum "beef tube" made and notched for the lower link mount bolts, then secured to the diff housing using an m3 screw. Now to figure out upper link mount/servo mount/truss. And waiting on the rest of the parts to arrive at the end of the week. The truck has been running great, it just could use some more steering angle, thus the new front axle in the works. doing this has been in my plan from the beginning, I just built the truck on a budget to get going. -Derek |

I made it myself. I have a Harbor Freight mini-lathe in my garage, it started out as a piece of 1/2" rod

I have the same lathe to. Do you guys have to shim your tail stock when you need precise drilling? I gun barrel drilled some 3mm screws the other day for a friend and it took me longer to set up my tail stock than it did to drill four 3mmX10mm ss screws. |
