Buford: Papa's MG200 Chassis Build Like a lot of other people on here, I've long admired Trenton's (MG200) work and since I'm also (originally) from Portland, thought it would be cool to own one of his chassis. Since he no longer takes orders, I have been patiently watching the FS section and the 'bay hoping to find a used one. My persistence finally paid off a few days ago when Trenton listed the chassis to his recently built '66 Ford basher for sale. A few PM's later and I not only owned the chassis, but Trenton also agreed to add a few things to it (front bumper, sliders, servo winch mount). Here is a link to his original thread: Here are some pics from the sale ad showing how I bought it: http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...psy8u852ec.jpg http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...pskxaewuow.jpg http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...psvksopfvg.jpg And here are some pics Trenton sent me today showing the extra work he did on it: "thumbsup" http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...pswfk0n5kp.jpg http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps4mczsvpv.jpg http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...psuzeqn7vf.jpg Can't wait for the mailman to be dropping this bad boy off! |
Re: Buford: Papa's MG200 Chassis Build Oh, and in case you're wondering why I named it Buford: It's a big, tall, and tough truck so I named it after Sheriff Buford Pusser that the "Walking Tall" movies were made about. I figure that oughta be tough enough... |
Re: Buford: Papa's MG200 Chassis Build Overall feel I'll be going for, though not a direct copy at all: Sam Collin's f250 from the 2006 Top Truck Challenge... http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...psqtjugzga.jpg |
Re: Buford: Papa's MG200 Chassis Build Hey wait a second, I think that's me!! Its nice to see he beefed it up for you and even sold those sweet trusses with it. Sure take the guess work out of it when it comes time to bolt it up. Looking forward to see where you take it. I cant believe how may 66 ford builds there out here now. And here I was thinking I would be only one to buy these bodies up when Proline released them"thumbsup" |

Re: Buford: Papa's MG200 Chassis Build Can't wait to see this finished Dave, I know you will make it a performer and a looker! It's kind of funny that I'm building a 1.9 while you are building a 2.2 right now. |
Re: Buford: Papa's MG200 Chassis Build Nice project Papa it looks like a real winner to me. |
Re: Buford: Papa's MG200 Chassis Build Where can I find these chassis? |

As far as I know he no longer takes orders so you're best bet is to watch the for sale section and grab a used one like I did. You might try posting in the wanted section. Good luck, once you find one you'll be glad you did. "thumbsup" |
Re: Buford: Papa's MG200 Chassis Build Time for a small update: First thing I did when I received the chassis was take the trusses off, sandblast them, and give them a fresh coat of paint. While the paint dried I assembled the axles. Nothing ground-breaking here, just good solid axles that should hold up to whatever abuse I give them. Re: Buford: Papa's MG200 Chassis Build The rig had been driven pretty hard, and the rear of the cage was a little tweaked. After a bit of quality time with a mallet and some wood blocks, I had it all straightened back out. The next step was to remove the battery holder. I want to scale the rig out a bit, and the battery being visible in the back of the cage just wasn't gonna do it for me. I removed everything but the forward-most support and bent it a bit to be more parallel with the ground. I cut the top of it off and now it makes for a great place to mount a Pro-Line fuel cell: http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...psubkh5cqs.jpg There was BARELY enough room to squeeze it in there, but it fits perfectly. Shouldn't have to worry about it bouncing out... "thumbsup" http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...psdty5a4gp.jpg |
Re: Buford: Papa's MG200 Chassis Build Gonna run Motoworx wheels (of course), these are the 8 Spoke SLW's. My picture certainly doesn't do them justice; they are beautiful wheels. For now I plan to run the RBII's since I had a new set on the shelf. They're wrapped around C.I. Double Deuces: http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...psrprlheqm.jpg You've probably figured out by now that the rig isn't gonna be red anymore... :) |
Re: Buford: Papa's MG200 Chassis Build I drive my rigs pretty hard, so I decided to add another X brace to the rear of the cage and also added a rear bumper to help protect the sway bar mount. Then, since I wanted to change the color, I sandblasted the whole thing and shot it with satin black. My welds are nowhere near as nice as Trenton's, but I'm pretty pleased with how it all turned out: http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...psbqznabvm.jpg http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...pschmj7h1z.jpg |
Re: Buford: Papa's MG200 Chassis Build Wow! Since I built it I noticed all the little extra's you've added, body mount tabs, rear bumper, bracing, really NICE JOB! "thumbsup" |

Re: Buford: Papa's MG200 Chassis Build very nice so far... i'm also planning on using the 66 ford for a truggy chassi i just picked up... i take it you're using the 3415 body that on their site is under 1/8th monster truck and is red and white...? do you know how many inches long the cab is from front bumper to back of cab? i only have 9" to work with and don't know if this body will work with my chassi... i think it originally had a yota or something on it.. also wandering what plans if any you have for the interior so far.. |

Re: Buford: Papa's MG200 Chassis Build Finally time for an update... Since this is my first all metal cage, I had no idea how difficult it would be to build an interior for it. Obviously, it's all welded together, so I had to make the interior modular and put it together piece by piece inside the cage; not difficult, but very time-consuming. Here are the main pieces of the puzzle: http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...psboiwtjtj.jpg And then I made a firewall to separate the electronics tray from the interior: http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...pszg3xxrro.jpg The battery pods with some scale goodness added: http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...psohte8gju.jpg |
