Thankfully I could hit your Flickr image then hit photostream to see what you've done. Cool. Photobucket...... sucks. Loving the design on the axles with integral skids. Shocks on the upper links, SXS style? Kinda Razor/Rhino looking. How do you plan to get the front mounts under the hood and not sacrifice wheel travel? Or are you going to leverage the shock ratio at like 4:1 or greater? Or go outside the box and use prop rods and mount the shocks indoard, Revo style, letting you keep a reasonable ratio?

I am leaning towards cantilevers. This does a couple things: Allows me to make antisquat and roll center changes with the uppers links and not affect ride height; separate ride height and motion ratio options without affecting antisquat or roll center and lastly to keep the shocks down low and out of harm's way while not being affected by the lines and tubes of the chassis.

I just need about 100 hours on the computer to draw everything up now haha.

Yearly update to this project. I redesigned the center sections to keep the axles from self destructing on big rock hits which led to a quick mock up of a carbon fiber TVP test rig. Based on a High Altitude LCG wraith skid, this design will let me verify the link and shock geo before I spend countless hours designing and building a full tube cage.

Its hard sometimes to tell how big a design is going to be on screen so here it is mocked up against my 2.2 FJ ttc model. Both have a wheel base of 14.5" and it ended up looking spot on size wise and proportionally.

Axle files and chassis files have been sent to Shapeways and the carbon guy respectively; now we wait for everything to show up.

Waiting on more 13mm bearings for the rear axle and the carbon chassis parts right now. I have everything else I need to build this car sitting on the bench waiting.

This is so over the top Casey. People are really sleeping on the design and ingenuity you are putting into this. I'm very excited to see this completed. Nice work

nice work for sure. never doubt shapeways lol. the plastic is oddly strong when designed right. I designed a chassis for my pro rig, I was able to stand on it without it breaking.. (never finished it but getting back to it this upcoming spring)

I do have on question though, why the shocks on the upper links?

Wider shocks, more room in the chassis, better protected shocks and overall better shock and link geometry. Wider shocks means the car needs less sway bar to keep the chassis flat; more room in the chassis means for a lower CG and a balanced rig; and better geometry is the roll center is lower so the car tracks straight through rough terrain with no axle steer.

I never thought all that positive would come out of that design. Thanks for the explanation!

Put a battery through this thing today and holy shit does it exceed expectations. Launches flat, corners and steers extremely well and still crawls like that's all it was built for.

Man, I'd like to see the finalized design put into production!

Love those axle housings, I have a set of Losi Maxxis Creepy Crawlers on Gearhead CAC wheels that are nearly 6" tall that would be perfect on this thing...

(in case you can't tell, I want one)

We need some video bud. If this thing cawls as well as it launches we gotta have some video.

They will be on Shapeways soon.

Working on video. Working nights right now so it's hard to get out and drive when there's light and the weather is good.
