Default The "Murderous Swine" FJ4D

While I'm waiting on a few parts to finish a couple other rigs, figured I'd start this one.

Specifications:

Old FJ40 hardbody
Wraith axles (narrowed)
Custom stainless tube chassis
Custom front motor mount
Custom made 2.2 Rock Beasts

This new rig will be a smallish Class 3 rig loosely based on my "Little D" Class 2 rig. Front and rear steer with Wraith axles that I narrowed so the long side uses XR uni''s. I'm also going to cut up some Rock Beast XL's to make 5.25" 2.2's. The plan is to make a fun, competitive, scale looking rig and keep from beating up the EB.

Let's get started. The narrowed axle. Cut 1" out of the long side, drilled both pieces out to 3/8" and sleeved with 3/8" stainless tube. Still need to build a truss.

Built anothe custom motor mount. Finally bought a 10mm reamer so I can make bearing pockets in aluminum plate. I use flanged bearings for the shaft/spur.

Where I'm currently at with the front portion of the chassis.

The front portion of the body.

Looking good Tim. How do you secure the axle tube after narrowing? I considered that route when doing mine but ultimately settled on chucking the axle in the lathe and trimming the end off.

Thin CA on tube and housing, press together. It's really strong, but a custom truss is the important part.

Looking good! It's got all the good normal Piggy stuff... alum trans plate, Big D TC, delrin skid and home brew chassis. Nice job on the axles too.

Yeah, been busy with life lately. I'm excited to get going on something new. I'll have a new Class 1 going in a few weeks.

I'm finishing up a couple rigs for Baller and started my new Class 1 rig for the Ultimate Scale Truck Expo. This one (unfortunately) will be looking at me from the shelf for a bit. I'll update if I get a few minutes to work on it though.

Slightly changed directions on this truck. Went full tube chassis.

Using 1/4 stainless tube for the rails, and I figured out how to mount the body.

Time for the cage.

Front bumper, stinger and fender tubes

Rear cage

This is where I'm at after working on it this week.

Next up will be axle trusses, panhard bar and shock mounts

Despite the change in direction, I'm glad to see you kept the barb wire and flames. Makes it looks so mean, make me not want to touch it, like I'd get burnt or cut or something.

But really, I like the tube work so far. Coming together very nicely as wxpected.
