Old Blue. Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda. Aka. Bubbles So Old blue has transformed from a 4.2" tire truck, stock looking rig. https://i.imgur.com/Q7bx1mhl.jpg to a lifted 4.75" tire rig. https://i.imgur.com/gyLjoUil.jpg https://i.imgur.com/DO3ZcH9l.jpg And now the story continues with 5.4" tires. https://i.imgur.com/XwuT1xrl.jpg And the reason being... I blame fully... Hold My Beer! (HLDMYBR) and his 69 Ford Bronco https://i.imgur.com/7rFfsxSl.jpg https://i.imgur.com/ONrwiCEl.jpg |
Re: Old Blue. Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda. The initial build thread. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/1-9-s...ane-build.html And how I solved the issue of the massive tires rubbing. 70mm coil overs installed on the frame. Replacing the stock scx10 shocks. The rear rubs the fenders lightly, so i will install fuel tubing to limit the travel a little. https://i.imgur.com/7RsimKnl.jpg |
Re: Old Blue. Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda. I installed a new exhaust... https://i.imgur.com/Z3gwxeol.jpg And had to test it out https://i.imgur.com/fihtrsWl.jpg I ran for 20 minutes, or so. Chasing the dogs, blasting through the ice and lumps of snow in the field, and blowing through the weeds... I still don't know what to do for a front bumper, everything I put tight against the body the tires rub hard, and much past that my approach angle is messed up |
Re: Old Blue. Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda. |
Re: Old Blue. Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda. Made another front bumper... 2.2 tire worthy I think... Now, paint it orange? Black? or leave it natural? https://i.imgur.com/bfLfLcbl.jpg |
Re: Old Blue. Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda. If a lug snags the corner of that new bumper it could possibly tear it. Just saying. Orange or black. |

I do need to raise it the 1/4"-3/8", to close the body gap though. |
Re: Old Blue. Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda. Hate to be the odd man out, but paint it the same color as the body for that monochrome look |

I made a new rear bumper, very simple, classic 80's style. https://i.imgur.com/eHwhSYjl.jpg moved the front bumper up... https://i.imgur.com/B8WfQjOl.jpg And clearance for those pesky tires... https://i.imgur.com/LNIiSPcl.jpg Good approach angles? https://i.imgur.com/BTfBPpEl.jpg |

Re: Old Blue. Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda. Got out with HLDMYBR... https://i.imgur.com/jWLoEuLl.jpg He broke his truck on a nasty tumble So he used my honcho for the rest of the run.. https://i.imgur.com/Eb5A4jUl.jpg And we found mud! https://i.imgur.com/2iGxt0ql.jpg Yeah I am stuck... https://i.imgur.com/l7AwXrWl.jpg After this i broke a cvd pin and drive shaft... So I broke to. :( |
Re: Old Blue. Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda. So old Blue made it out today, but I stripped my servo horn... So to old reliable. My stock honcho finished the day. https://i.imgur.com/BqkLJKph.jpg https://i.imgur.com/jNhQlbph.jpg |
Re: Old Blue. Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda. I made it out today with HLDMYBR... We ran into an obstical neither of us wanted to tackle... https://i.imgur.com/ANXHcwGl.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Jk48ouGl.jpg I broke my front driveshaft, and switched to my honcho again... Going to have to figure out something soon... |
Re: Old Blue. Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda. Kootinie creek trail is good to go again... https://i.imgur.com/6lw0U31h.jpg https://i.imgur.com/vNDXq9nh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/jMY40Yuh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/lFHqUmDh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/TCBDro2h.jpg |
Re: Old Blue. Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda. Mounted up a Rc4wd 2 speed, mostly after the low speed control of the 5:1 low gear, coupled with the big horsepower of the brushless she should have the best of both worlds, mud slinging high gear and lots of control in low. Pardon the dirty chassis. https://i.imgur.com/we1FUvNl.jpg |
Re: Old Blue. Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda. Found a old Mip driveshaft, and mounted it in the rear, next the front... |
Re: Old Blue. Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda. Took her for a test drive after setting up the shift servo, and... Omg! I think I am in love. I did not have the control to climb the stairs at my house, but do now. :) And the top speed is impressive, 15ish mph, maybe 20, just guessing here, but as fast as I can run... Needless to say, very happy with the results. |
