Kamaz Inspired Dakar Build - The Tekin K55 Earlier this year we finished the first Dakar rally truck build based off an M1079 concept, dubbed the M-55. DAKAR Rally Modified Stewart & Stevenson M1079 The build was so much fun that we decided to follow it up with another. This one will be based off the Team Kamaz Master 4326 Redbull trucks. Just like last time, here's the concept for the Tekin K-55 Rally Truck. http://scalebuildersguild.com/forum/...1&d=1538589235 To change things up a bit, I decided it was appropriate to go 2.2s and run RC4WD ZXL 5.2" military tires as the real Kamaz run 52" tires. The build sheet is almost identical to the M-55: Chassis Custom 3/8" Aluminum C-Channel Electronics Tekin RX4 Tekin ROC412HD 2300kV Tekin T-440 Servo Tekin T-120 Servo Spektrum Receiver ProTek 8200mAh LIHV in Series for 4S ESS One Sound System Pro-Line 5" Curved LED Bar GT Power 12-port LED Controller Radio Switch for LEDs Transmission Axial SCX10-II Kit 2 Speed Front Axle Vanquish Currie F9 SCX10-II Vanquish Knuckles Vanquish Knuckle Bushings Vanquish Spiral Cut Ring/Pinion Gears Vanquish Spool Vanquish 12mm Wheel Hex Incision VXD Shafts Fast Eddy Bearings Rear Axle Vanquish Currie F9 SCX10-II Vanquish Spiral Cut Ring/Pinion Gears Vanquish Spool Vanquish 12mm Wheel Hex Vanquish AR44 Axle Shafts Fast Eddy Bearings Wheels & Tires Vanquish 2.2 Method 105s Vanquish #8 Hubs RC4WD 2.2 ZXL 5.2" Tires Suspension RC4WD King Shocks (8) Vanquish Bomber Trailing Arms Lower Links F/R Vanquish Currie Anti-Rock Sway Bars F/R Incision Bomber Rear Upper Links F/R Hot Racing 80mm Limit Straps Buckle up for another 3D printed adventure! Re: Kamaz Inspired Dakar Build - The Tekin K55 First order of business, duplicating the frame setup from the M-55 truck so I reprinted the center drop skid and battery tray pieces out of Makeshaper ABS. http://scalebuildersguild.com/forum/...4&d=1538595419 Once everything was drilled out and test fitted, I started driling holes in the fresh cut frame rails and mounting all the pieces up. http://scalebuildersguild.com/forum/...5&d=1538595419 http://scalebuildersguild.com/forum/...6&d=1538595419 |
Re: Kamaz Inspired Dakar Build - The Tekin K55 Axle assembly was smooth sailing, Vanquish Products Currie F9s are a joy to assemble. All Vanquish parts and some Fast Eddy bearings to finish them off. Decided to go all grey underneath on this one since the truck is dark schemed. http://scalebuildersguild.com/forum/...7&d=1538596066 http://scalebuildersguild.com/forum/...8&d=1538596066 Bomber trailing arms for the front and rear. http://scalebuildersguild.com/forum/...9&d=1538596066 Axles mounted to the chassis with Incision Bomber stainless upper links. Servo bracket for on axle mounting. http://scalebuildersguild.com/forum/...0&d=1538596066 http://scalebuildersguild.com/forum/...1&d=1538596066 |

Re: Kamaz Inspired Dakar Build - The Tekin K55 Great stuff!!! Does the 3D printed stuff hold up to "moderate" abuse? What is the scale speed for the other truck build, about 8 mph? Throw a trailer hitch on the back, build a trailer and pull your Bomber along. Baller status. "thumbsup" Then the cost of building something like this, is it tipping the scales towards $2000-$2500 mark? |

The other truck does about 14mph flat out, plenty fast for how big it is. The parts all hold up pretty well, I've jumped it, hit plenty of rocks and rolled it a few times. The cab will probably crack in a few spots if it were rolled over on hard ground a bunch of times at speed, luckily a little acetone and some touch up paint takes care of most small cracks. Funny you mention a trailer, we are almost done with one for the 6x6 we built last year. Parts for it on the printer currently! As for cost, I don't even know where to begin. Just the off the shelf parts used total somewhere north of $15-1600, then batteries, radio, receiver and all the time invested...Not even sure I can put a dollar amount on these! |

Oh how I feel ya on the time. A little over 1-1/2 years to make mine test worthy, add another ~20 hrs or so for the body I'm going to do. Trailer fit the Bomber, or do you need to yank a 1.9 or 1.5 rig for it to look correct? |

Re: Kamaz Inspired Dakar Build - The Tekin K55 You know the ESC would love you for it. I normally shoot for around 35k motor speed for a nice and peppy system. |
Re: Kamaz Inspired Dakar Build - The Tekin K55 These things are INCREDIBLE. just saw the first one this months RC Car Action. My jaw dropped so hard I think it hit the toilet seat. AMAZING work here fellas!!! |

Re: Kamaz Inspired Dakar Build - The Tekin K55 Progress! Not a ton, but it's some. Got the transmission assembled and mounted in the truck yesterday and built the drive shafts. Decided to go 2300kV this time around and run 4S. Just need to drill the holes for the battery trays and then it's on to the shock hoops! http://scalebuildersguild.com/forum/...6&d=1547589698 http://scalebuildersguild.com/forum/...7&d=1547589698 |
Re: Kamaz Inspired Dakar Build - The Tekin K55 Still working on this beast! We are printing out the panels for the cab right now, so hopefully in a few days we will have something that resembles a truck to show! Today I got the front bumper brackets cleaned up and mount on the bumper, then mounted the whole assembly to the frame rails. https://scalebuildersguild.com/forum...0&d=1554926807 Cab hinge for some tilty action just like the real ones! Also mocked up the front shock hoops. https://scalebuildersguild.com/forum...1&d=1554926807 Wheelbase stretched out to 437mm. The previous truck was 393mm. This truck will be quite a bit longer and wider than the first one! https://scalebuildersguild.com/forum...2&d=1554926807 https://scalebuildersguild.com/forum...3&d=1554926807 Mocked up rear shock hoops. Took some thinking and two revisions to get them to sit here since we flipped the transmission. I had to notch the gear cover for the right side hoop to fit where it needs to be. Since this truck is so much longer than the M-55, we will need a short carrier shaft off the transfer case to keep our driveshafts an acceptable length. Plan to use another transfer case output shaft, a super short WB-HD driveshaft and some printed plastic magic. https://scalebuildersguild.com/forum...4&d=1554926807 Still got TONS to do, but parts are coming off the printer pretty quickly (knock on wood) so it will start taking shape very soon! |
