Default Bringing an old crawler back to life

A few months ago, one of my RC buddies was getting rid of an old chassis he had laying around. I figured I'd take it and see if I could salvage something from it.

Upon further inspection, I saw it was an Integy V3 i-rock 10 crawler in need of work. I decided to get it running, using only whatever parts it already had and replacing the missing parts from anything laying around my workbench.

In other words, don't put any money into it. This is how it looked when I got it.

After cleaning it up a little, I started replacing what was missing and upgrading some parts with what I had laying around. Replaced missing front shocks, tried out different tires and motors......

I finally settled on a set of Duratrax Approach tires. Coupled with an old set of Losi Night Crawler shocks, it performs well.

Besides the tires and shocks, I also added an old Duratrax Blast esc, Integy 55t motor, running 14/87 pinion/spur combo with a 2S 5000mah lipo. The body is an old HPI bug body that was on my son's competition crawler back in the day, found it sitting on a shelf. He custom painted it to look like a rust bucket! The servo is the stock one it came with and no mods to the axles.

It's unique, weird, and old....

...and I like it!

Nice job repurposing everything.

Free just makes the hobby that much more fun! Cool to see you're getting some use out of that rig! What's the deal with the rig on the left in the first picture? I think I see a Pede Transmission.

Yup, can't beat free! The other chassis you noticed was a bonus from my buddy's cleanup. I have no clue what brand the chassis is, it might be a custom build. I did recognize the pede tranny just as you did and it has wheely king axles. I was going to start another thread for it but I'll continue on this one....

The Moab tires were dry rotted so I replaced them with my own Moab's on 2.2 RC4WD wheels. Took an HPI Chevy Silverado body and turned it into a half cab. Also added an LRP esc and a Traxxas servo.

Changed esc to a Traxxas XL5, added a few accessories, detailed the cab and took it to a crawler course. Needs some fine tuning but performed decently on the course.

I like them both! Been thinking about a "vintage build" - I have a lot of older parts laying around. I imagine it would look something like those.

Nothing better than repurposing old parts for this type of project. I enjoy running these two more than my Vaterra Ascender, and that is a smooth, flawless crawler. Best of luck with your vintage build

Considering Integy's reputation for producing cheap junk, I gotta say this crawler is decent. Sure I had to replace missing parts with other brands but the chassis, tranny and axles are still stock and I've been pounding the hell out of it on the rocks and trails. Electronics have been waterproofed so I took it for a swim. Will try to upload some video, here are some pics for now.

Very cool! These axles look bombproof :O and the body is certainly a winner! Nice work.
