Default DMG B1B Ultra4(ish) FJ45

So I became a bit infatuated with ultra4/trophy style rigs lately.
Builds that I kept searching on the webs or tube included:

Sam Collin's 49 Ford
Tim O'Dell 46 Diamond T
Nefarious Customs FJ45
Jeremy Benson's Race Tractor
and many many more.

I started the build back in March and am moving along pretty good so this will be mostly catch up to where I'm at today.

So to change things up I wanted an IFS front end. I had a yeti score so that was a non issue.
Next up was a little help from Mr. DMG and his #80 B1B kit. I already owned a bomber and had a old wraith (for the trans) in pieces in a storage bin so that took care of the rest.

I am not going to list all of the parts involved on this one right now. Will save it for a rainy day when the build is done. It will have quite a few upgrades up front.

So back in 2018?, maybe I don't know the thread is in the 1.9 section, I took a RC4WD cruiser and turned it into a FJ45.
For whatever reason I just lost motivation to finish it but on the plus side I had finished all the body work.

Well where do we go from here. I knew a lot of the bomber cage was going to be coming out but I did want to keep the front end in tact because no work involved battery holder. As you will see below there was not much remaining of the bomber cage.

Around that I wanted to make a cage that bolted on so it would make it easier to work on.
I also was tasked with attempting to make 3/16 blend with stock axial plastic. Meh close enough.

And some more of the cage build.

So we also added the exo rear light bar, radiator and fuel cell. A dumb little side not but this will be the first time I actually make use of the fuel cell and put something (ESC) in it.

So I also got some body work done. Because I am going with 2.2's the fenders were just not gonna work out.
So I had to cut them out but I did manage to squeeze in the dash as a nostalgia wouldn't be functioning kind of deal.
Made some fender wells for up front and have been cleaning it up for paint.

Door panels will be attached to body and on the outside of the cage

Interior...…………….I HATE MAKING THEM
Mostly worked around a wraith interior which made it easier.

Alright last but not done I got some shot with wheels under her.
I finally decided on a paint scheme and will be starting on that soon.
Still some work to do to set up the front end correctly.
Need to rebuild the wraith trans and shocks as well but I am getting some where.

I don't believe I will be running the BFG'S that are currently on even though I like them. Going to see how some 2.2 berserkers look.

I'm sure I'm forgetting a bunch of things but just wanted to get a thread started and get caught up.

Where it sits now with the wheels on should be its general ride height .

Love it, although you hate the interior work, you’ve done an amazing job on it. The old cruisers are a perfect contender to be made into a single cab.

Thanks, not a single but yeah I just never had patience for an interior.

That is really nicely done Hoyt. Thanks for posting it up. Did you use all 3/16 solid rod in your cage work?

Thank you sir. Yes it is 3/16 rod. At some point I will get a nice tube bender and switch over but every time I get the build itch I end up spending the money for the truck and not the tools lol.

So I have been painting away lately. I have more moving parts with this build then any I have done I think.
There's freaking pieces everywhere... Some of the pieces I have painted so far as you can see below.

Also got a chance to rebuild my wraith trans that has not been touched since I built the kit back in 2012.
80 tooth spur in the thing.
So it got all new gears, Incision outputs, 56t spur, 18t pinion and will be running the HH 3500 brushless as seen in the pic.

Some things I didn't discuss in the original post.

Minor detail but moved the side view mirrors to a more ultra-ish position.

And so when making this I decided to keep the front end plastic aside from the DMG added parts.
I touched on this a little, but I wanted it to still flow or look like something with out the body.
So I came up with the triangle metal piece that bolts to my rod and the axial plastic.
It served two functions, one was to cover up the fact the axial plastic was going into nothing and it really just made the whole front end rigid with no flex.

As seen here. Its ugly but strong. The plastic edge sticking out has been shaved off as well.

In order to cover up that ugly mess I made just a simple cover out of clear Lexan.

And now it just kind of flows nice and gives the appearance the axial plastic just runs up to the metal rod for the door.

That is all at the moment.

Love the mash up build here! Envisioning the build and then building it from scratch or with what is laying around is a great feeling !

lol thanks but I kinda wanna drive it now that its done. Will keep it in mind for the future.

Got her all painted and put back together.
Couple small things I have to take care of like putting the door handles on lol and some future scale bits.
Should be a fun little lite trail use or straight shots on the beach kinda truck.
Went with a vintage race car style paint job.
