It's not about "fitment"...it's more about weight. I wanted to keep the weight down, so that I could use the new Castle Copperhead 10 ESC (max weight, according to Castle, is 7.5lbs). The stock RTR Ryft is 7.3lbs. A 550 motor weights more than a 540. Plus, the plastic the new axles are made of is probably sightly heavier. Added to that would be the additional weight of the 2-speed trans parts, metal diff cover plates, and rear sway bar.

Even with a 540, all these 'upgrade' parts probably pushes it extremely close to the Copperhead's 7.5lb maximum...and, with a 550, it probably exceeds that 7.5lb limit. But, no worries, as I no longer think I'll be using the Copperhead in the Ryft, as I'll also be ordering a few Vitavon parts...thus, I'll have to use the Mamba X (I've got a couple extra somewhere in the house). As such, I can probably reconsider a 550.

EDIT: I just had a brilliant idea...and, it's why I've decided the Mamba X is definitely the way to go. With the Aux wire plugged into the 3rd (or 4th) channel, one can program the Tx (depending on whether, or not to your Tx can do this) to simultaneously "shift" the trans AND switch the ESC between 'rock racer' & 'crawler' modes. I don't know about Spektrum, FlySky, or Airtronics/Sanwa, but certain Futaba models (specifically, the 4PM, 7PX, & 7PXR) can be set up this way. I'd assume the others can...it's worth giving it a try.

Plus, RPM makes a mounting cage for the Mamba X (the MMX also fits) with mounting screw holes in the sides. 'Officially', this cage is designed for the Slash 4x4 (and other Traxxas vehicles), but I did discover that the spacing of the holes is 100% identical to the hole spacing of the ESC mounting plate on the Losi Baja Rey. Chances are extremely high that the cage should also fit the Ryft's mounting plate. Why? There are other HH vehicles running the Spektrum SMART 130A ESC that previously ran a Dynamite ESC...the same Dynamite ESC that came in the Baja Rey. If the mounting hole spacing of the Spektrum SMART 130A is the same as the hole spacing of that Dynamite ESC, and the RPM Mamba X cage aligns with the mounting plate holes of the Baja Rey, then logic dictates that the same cage's mounting holes should perfectly align with the mounting holes on the Ryft's ESC mounting plate. Amain...another order coming your way.

Yeah any remote should work. Just tie the aux wire and the shift servo signal wire together. Seen people with the trx4s do it. Doesn't the copperhead have the same aux option? Even if it does, bigger esc is better.

Don’t get all hung-up on ‘weight’. Castle just uses it as an indication. In the end It’s just a matter of proper gearing. However, yes. The Ryft is way too big&heavy for a 540-type. Something that is logical when thinking about the Ryft as a 1/8 scale car. The footprint of the Ryft is the same as the HPI Apache c1 , and the weight -with a big 4s on board- is also pretty close. The Apache being an “official” 1/8 scale buggy. In conclusion: We should stop thinking about the Ryft as a 1/10 scale car. It’s not. ( hence the guys in the cockpit looking like toddlers that accidentally ended-up in the car.. :P )

Also, remember that the Ryft is a straight axle car.. nòt exactly the best at high speed manoeuvres... There’s a reason fast cars use double A-arms.. Ànything above 40-to 50 km/h on our straight-axle toys becomes a tad hairy, to say the least.

By the by. For those that got the new material front axle housing ( Rev1) without the extra bracing : Don’t worry anymore about it breaking too easily. I slammed my Ryft with Rev1 axle into a steel pole at almost full tilt ( How on earth did I bloody manage that? The ONLY bit of steel sticking outof the ground .. visible from miles away ... grdrnit!!!) And broke a ballend, the servo saver, the servo àrm and my pretty front lightbar.. *sniff* .. but nòt the axle housing. That was just fine.. abit of material scuffed-off.. that was all.. I can imagine that the actual re-design of the front axle is even stronger.

I can say, I'm 99.999% certain I won't have any problems with the axles...or the steering knuckles, or the rear trailing arms. First, regarding the trailing arms, the kit includes the aluminum side plates...but, the included training arms (and aluminum plates l will be kept as "backups". Instead, I'll be using the machined aluminum trailing arms...and axles, and steering knuckles...from Vitavon Racing.

While Arthur does offer other machined parts, I've decided (for now...possibly permanently, depending on how the kit parts hold up) to stick with the parts included in the kit. I did consider the sway bars...but, then, I decided that ain't additional weight higher up might not be 'good'. As for the Vitavon parts I did order, Arthur will be doing something slightly "special".

Looks like this thread is the closest thing we have to a ryft subforum, so...

I'm interested in picking up the Ryft kit. I have a Hobbywing Max8 combo I never got around to using. Any thoughts on using this setup in a ryft? I'm concerned about cogging since it is sensorless, but the rtr system is sensorless too, correct?

Any chance a 4274 motor would fit?

I like your thinking. I didn’t save the data but my 4068 is supposed to fit. You may have to go back and skim through from the beginning. The motor is big enough and if the gearing is right it should do well. Definitely should have the torque.

Got my Mamba back from Castle, decided the RX4 is better suited to my Enduro, so got the Mamba fitted back into the Ryft

I wasn’t a fan of the big loops of cable using straight bullets into the esc, so found these cool angled lipo connectors and modified them to fit. Also fitted some Proline thumbscrews I used to use on my Tekno basher, but took them off when I broke the body mounts and sent over to Arrma ones

I see photos, they are borderline pornographic.

Mamba looks made for that rig

Nice Treal pieces

And this is an example of what I see for photos posted by everyone else:

I use postimage, it’s not the most reliable of hosting sites lol

On a lighter note the Treal axles are due for delivery on Monday

Got ya. I've had similar "problems" in the past, with two other image hosting sites...which is why I now upload within Tapatalk.

As for the axles, enjoy. My Vitavon axles, steering knuckles, and trailing arms, are shipping today. Can't wait to see how the blue turned out. I'm still interested in the Copperhead 10...but, since I'm still 'worried' about the weight, I've definitely decided to go with the Mamba X.

The Rockracer mode on the Mamba X makes it perfect for the Ryft imo

When in 'high', yes...but, when I'm 'low', "rock crawler" mode would be better.

Yea, I’ve got it on the pot on my 4pm so I can turn it to crawler mode and then it also controls the drag break strength

What is the consensus on this over a Bomber? I have the Bomber kit version already but we have mostly been running 1.9s so it has hardly any use. None of it outside the house.

I really like the cage on the Ryft and the battery box dimensions. The Bomber is kinda small.

That said I would want either of them to be more set up for Crawling with hill climbs and less of a basher. So a sensored 1800kv motor and say 3s should be fine. I also have different trailing arms to swap out on the Bomber to shorten the wheelbase.

I dont know Im torn. Really only after the Ryft for the looks and it seems like the kit is a must if I plan to do crawling, but then again, I already have the Bomber...
