| Project Rally Raid: K-55 Inspired Dakar Truck
Here we go again, balancing many projects on top of one another For this build, I'm going to be building a true to 1/10 scale Kamaz based Dakar Rally truck. This is heavily inspired by Ty@Tekin's awesome K-55 Dakar truck, and the finished build will be very similar to it. Heres his build thread: Kamaz Inspired Dakar Build - The Tekin K55 I will be using a pretty similar chassis design, with an Aluminum C channel running through as the main chassis. The frame and braces will all be designed in Fusion 360 and 3d printed, and with the panels being made with 1/16 polycarbonate sheets I've started modeling the rear section based off of the build concept from Ty's K-55 build. I'm doing things in a weird order. Normally I would design the chassis brace first but this time I'm doing things a little differently. This is going to be a long build, as designing a whole chassis isn't exactly quick. |

| Re: Project Rally Raid: K-55 Inspired Dakar Truck What I've got after 2 days of work and trying to figure stuff out. Now I gotta make the side panel open with a hinge, AND make the most important part, the chassis. |

Been busy lately. Some more progress. Made the crossbeams thinner and made a new hinge design. Also started lower part. I'm editing things in half from now so I can just mirror it over without having to edit both sides. I also got a 4ft stick of 1/16 thick 3/8 alu c channel. Dosen't seem to be long enough :/ Ordering some trailing arms soon |

Very cool! The 4' c-channel is long enough, the rear area of the truck extends past the actual frame rails with a bunch of pieces that tie the tire carriers to the back of the box where the fuel cell sits. Look forward to seeing how you get it all built! |

I’ve been making some progress with the cad, the rear half is essentially done, and now I’m working on the front part of the truck. So far, I’ve got the chassis rails cut and the rear links. I got some cheap aluminum bomber links from amazon, they came with horrible loose joints, but it’s an easy fix. I took them apart, and stuffed a plastic ball joint wrapped in some electrical tape to have it snug, and lock it with a glued washer. I also gave them a coat of black paint, which didn’t start well and didn’t want to stick, but after a few coats, it ended up having this mini hammered look that I really like. I’ll order another set for the front and the axles soon. I know it doesn’t look like much, but most of my time has been put in to the cad for the body. It’s slow progress, but sure progress. |
