Hey guys, someone asked to see how I used a RC10 tranny so I figgured I'd post the pics here too. I call it 2DS (2 dollar steak) as in tough as a two dollar steak This is the first crawler I built. I machined the axles and welded the frame. It's amazingly capable considering it's only sporting 4" tires. I was going for a scale look, with the wheels under the wheel wells. Heres a pic on the trail: ![]() pic showing the front driveshaft and frame (frame design inspired by Grizzly4x4) The drive shafts are universal joint dogbones from an RC10, I cut the originals in half, silversoldered a tube of drillrod (toolsteel), to them to make them the length I needed : ![]() Closeup of the front axle knuckle. Stub axle is a RC10T rear axle: ![]() Pic of the rearend disassembled. The original ring and pinion was a spider and side gear out of a midnight pumpkin. This was a major weak point because the pinion kept stripping off the input shaft. I finally scrapped the MP gears and bought brass miter gears from Small Parts which solved the breakage: ![]() Top down construction pic: ![]() Top down shot of the front axle:

Thanks guys. I think the smaller crawlers in many ways are funner than the big ones. The big ones have more sex appeal, but the small ones really require driving skill. It's a lot easier to find a challenging spot to crawl too. Hopefully when competitions become more common they'll have tire classes.

Couldnt agree more! Big tires and small tires are both fun, they are just different kinds of fun I think. 2DS is a RIG!

It didn't come off a truck, those axles were machined by him and the chassis also fabbed by himself.
