HellCAT Part 2 Well it's time to rebuild the old HellCAT, when I built this rig I intended for it to evolve into a Trail Rig, but now that I have a High-lift I think I will jump into high gear and skip the evolving. I'm thinking tube framed bed and I'm going to remove the front bumper for more tire clearance. I'll need a whole new chassis for the bed to fit right. http://www.ripper7racing.com/myimage...T_2/HC_001.jpg http://www.ripper7racing.com/myimage...T_2/HC_002.jpg and the mock-up http://www.ripper7racing.com/myimage...T_2/HC_003.jpg |
Well here is a couple mock-ups with the proto-type chassis http://www.ripper7racing.com/myimage...T_2/HC_007.jpg http://www.ripper7racing.com/myimage...T_2/HC_008.jpg and here is the aluminum chassis. http://www.ripper7racing.com/myimage...T_2/HC_011.jpg http://www.ripper7racing.com/myimage...T_2/HC_012.jpg The required artic shots, of course I don't figure I'll ever be driving over this many CD cases....LOL Seriously though the body will probably restrict a lot. http://www.ripper7racing.com/myimage...T_2/HC_013.jpg http://www.ripper7racing.com/myimage...T_2/HC_014.jpg and a quick Cardboard Mock-up http://www.ripper7racing.com/myimage...T_2/HC_015.jpg I decided to swap the body for a High-lift, I'll use the jugg body on my High-lift build. http://www.ripper7racing.com/myimage...T_2/HC_016.jpg http://www.ripper7racing.com/myimage...T_2/HC_017.jpg |
http://www.ripper7racing.com/myimage...T_2/HC_018.jpg http://www.ripper7racing.com/myimage...T_2/HC_019.jpg http://www.ripper7racing.com/myimage...T_2/HC_020.jpg http://www.ripper7racing.com/myimage...T_2/HC_021.jpg http://www.ripper7racing.com/myimage...T_2/HC_022.jpg Well that's where she stands at the moment, I hope to finish the bed this afternoon, or at least the framing. |
Thats sick man.. I have got to build me one like that... Great work.."thumbsup""thumbsup" |
finally progress! whats the rear cage made from? |
Thanks Darkhorse. STANG KILLA SS - The rear cage is made from 1/4" steel brake line, 7/16" brass sleeves and 1/8" brass square tubing. |
Great looking frame. What tires are those.I will be keeping an eye on this build. |
ahh you must buy your brake line at autozone, there the only place i know of with that colored coating on ;) i buy all mine at advanced auto parts. just has the silver galvanized finish. |

I would prefer no coating at all, it would be nice to not have grind it clean. |
Well the bed is done, well at least the tube work, now for some serious grinding..... http://www.ripper7racing.com/myimage...T_2/HC_023.jpg http://www.ripper7racing.com/myimage...T_2/HC_024.jpg and a couple paper mock-ups for fun. http://www.ripper7racing.com/myimage...T_2/HC_025.jpg http://www.ripper7racing.com/myimage...T_2/HC_026.jpg |
nice job. cant wait to see it finished. |
damn, thats sick. |
That is kinda what I did with my hi-lift body. But yours has a ton more work in the tubing then mine. Great work. The onle thing I don't like too much about mine is how top heavy it ended up being of well. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...1/DSC01758.jpg |
Well I finally got some time to work on old HellCAT, now for a little testing and than back to the garage. http://www.ripper7racing.com/myimage...T_2/HC_027.jpg |
that thing is mint"thumbsup" what are those tires that were first on it before you started to rebuild it? |

The cage and bumper are bolted to the aluminum frame, the front half of the cage is hinged to allow access to the body and the battery, it's a new design and untested so hopefully it works...LOL |
Wow rip everytime I see it on another site it has a new part lol. Great exo I love the hinge. Looks great should be super tough. You should ram it into stuff to test the durability haha. |
DAYUM!!!!!!!!!!!! I just had to slap myself to keep from drooling on the keyboard here at work. That is on eof the BEST exo's I have ever seen. Awesome work. Bravo, Bravo. Wayne |
Thanks, I think the finished rig will be well worth all the work. For all those wondering, here's a body off shot. http://www.ripper7racing.com/myimage...T_2/HC_028.jpg If you look close you can see burn marks, man masking tape burns fast and BIG....LOL |
