Default Tubed Bronco TLT Scaler

Just what I need, another project. Hopefully this one won't take too long.

Recently I bought this frame and body from one of my crawling buddies. He welded it from brake tube and solid steel bar. I sprayed it with some Rustoleum dark grey webbing paint. Links are all Traxxas, with savage shocks in the back, and unkown touring car shocks up front.

It's got mounting holes for a frame mounted servo, and the battery up front next to the servo.
These are the axles I built for it. Bearings on pinion and ring gear only, all the rest bronze bushings for underwater adventures. JP Customs spindles up front with a custom made link mount. RC4WD staright axle adaptors with another custom link mount in the back.

I've got another body I bought that I have to cut still. Hopefully more on this one in the next few days.

Kind of Ryan. I used machines anyway. The band saw and drill press, with a little bit of filing to clean up the edges. I'm really hoping to have it together for this weekend. We really need to go find a trail somewhere. Did Brian tell you about my new 1:1 car?

Thanks Chip. I don't really have a chance of building as many as you, but I'm sure gonna try

Ok, update. I might actually get this one built and crawl it.

First the chassis with axles, links, and shocks installed.

Then got to roller status, and even started in on the electronics. Made a little mount plate for the esc and reciever. Battery mounts up front for best weight distribution.

Finally threw the old body on.

Had to get a flex shot, no too bad for a scaler.

Just need to setup the radio, waterproof the receiver and install it, Hack the new body if I have time, and go crawl it. Special thanks to miniwheeler for getting me straightened out on my tire/wheel issue.

Actually drove it around a little last night. I really can't stand LRP esc's. The reverse is almost uncontrollable. Other than that(which I might change out) I like this rig. Steering is going to need some tuning, but I want to actually crawl it before I do anything. Hopefully some pics this sunday of it on some trails.

Took it out on some trails yesterday. My buddies Ryan and Brian(guy who made the frame) had a little scale get together.

This thing crawls pretty good, but with the piece of $%#& LRP it was more than a little fun to control. Going to thave to play with the steering a bit to get it where I want it, but overall it did really well. Unfortunately after an hour I thought the battery was dead, so I swapped in another. It still was reacting strangely, not wanting to reverse, and hesitating some times going forward. Then it just quit driving, but the steering was working fine. Then I heard a little fizzle, and a nice puff of electrical smoke comes pouring out of the little blue box. Yup it's fried. Had it installed in my BMVII for 1 full battery pack, and basically one pack in this rig. That's it. Did I mention I really hate LRP esc's?

Can't wait Scott. We're trying to get it so we all have 1.9 and 2.2 rigs to play with.

nice looking bronco, I like the way the body is cut to work with the tube frame in the back.

Just wondering, what is the wheel base on this thing?

Finally got out in the garage and worked on something. Got a different body for the bronco, and hacked it up. Unfortunately it had a huge lexan blower engine sticking out of the hood. It had to go. I'll fill in the hole with some lexan when I get around to it. Also added a cut down savage bumper with a nice solid aluminum frame mount. Still have to redo the steering, and the front axle truss/link mount, and make a front skid.
