K-5 Blazer build..no name yet

Today was my birthday and my wife bought me a tube bender and cutter, I also had some birthday cash and made a trip to the hobby store and bought a K-5 body.
Here's what I'm building it with:
TLT axles
R2 tranny
RC4WD beadlocks
Moabs (maybe Rock Claws in the future)
Novak XRS
RX pack
winch
55t lathe motor
I have been running a K2-3L but want to build something different. I wanted to build some kind of tuber, but I like full bodied rigs, so I picked a K-5. I love the old Chevy's. I will probably dove-tail the front and rear. I want it to look something like the Blazer buggy that ran in the Ultimate Adventure last year. Here's a pic of the full size. I will post pics when I get started. This will be my first tuber so this may take me some time.

Yea, yer gonna build Wally!!! Steve Watson competed in Top Truck Challenge a few years ago (before it was a tube rig) and it did really well, I love that rig. This should be a good one. "thumbsup"

Well, I'm not gonna build an exact copy, it will be quite a bit different but it was my inspiration. I was watching the UA DVD and thought it was really cool. We'll see how it turns out. Guido was also kind of an inspiration also, I like how it sits so low and the stance of it, hope the K-5 comes out similiar.

Inspired by Wally.... good enough. It should be killer.

Thanks for the compliment, I'm glad Guido was able to spark some creative fire. 8)

Happy Bday by he way. 8)

I haven't decided on paint yet, got a few ideas in my mind, but it will definetely be a two-tone. Probably not green though.

Thanks man."thumbsup" I started bending some tubing last night and realized it's not as easy as I thought it was gonna be. I guess it will take me a lot of trial and error and a lot of brake line, but I'll get it done. Pretty soon I'll get some pics up.

Ok, here's an update. Not a whole lot, got the body basically cut the way I want it. I'm gonna leave the cab on it. While I'm rebuilding I decided to shave the axles and work on the steering. I wasn't happy with the steering on my K2 but now I think I fixed all that, should have plenty now.

I have decided to keep my K2-3L and use it on this build. I messed around a little bit with making a tuber frame and realized I may be in over my head right now, so I'm gonna use the K2 and just make some bumpers, rollcage, and possibly a tire carrier. I didn't realize how big the Moabs actually are until I put one in the bed to see how it would look as a spare and dang, the tire looks huge sitting up there. Don't know if I will mount a spare or not. Anyway, here's a pic of how it will sit. It will probably sit lower than where I have it now and I need to shorten my back links a little bit. Any thoughts on how I should paint it? I have some ideas but would like some suggestions.

Why not keep the green and white theme like the blazer?

Unimoger 08-29-2007 08:17 AM

Right now I'm thinking orange and white, or copper and white.

L-TOWN CUSTOMS 08-29-2007 08:56 AM

Mongo 08-29-2007 02:31 PM

That's what I'm leaning toward right now.
