Yep you hit the nail on the head. Roof flashing is a little heaver aluminum and I do use it sometimes, mainly in inner supports, but for body skins it's to tough to mold by hand. If I had a hydrolic press maybe but I feel the thickness is the perfect scale. Take you're 1:1 truck and lay it in it's side and drag it around, what do you think it will look like?

Here is my other build, done in the same material

Project True scale test rig

Don't feel that way. I made it with the specific intention of damaging it. For me it was a quickly body. I did it in only a few hours. That's why i like metal though, I can just make another

Masher, you never cease to amaze me. Awesome build man. I really dig the "real" body damage.

Small update.

After throughly beating the flatty for a couple months (without any breakage I must add) I decided the flatty needed a little extra protection for the grill. Joe loves to try climbs to steep and ends up flopping on the hood. I got sick of pulling it out for him so I added some new bars.

Here is the poor wrinkled grill before (sorry for being out of focus. Oh and I let Joe Take a nap while I worked on the truck. Nothing seems to wake him and he just gets in the way anyways)

Here is the new radiator hoop in place

I also got sick of hearing Joe bitch about how every time he came to a rock higher than his bumper he would get stuck on it so I also added a stinger

Now all that's left is some paint and to test it out!

So I grabbed it and sat the body on my 2.2 chassis and wouldn't you know it the wheelbase was perfict! So the idea was hatched to replicate the flatty in aluminum.

First thing was to dissamble the car

Then i had to seperate the hood and cowl.

I don't have any pics but next i simple molded the metal around the fenders and hood.

Then i copied the floor and inner fenders to paper and cut and bent flat pieces of aluminum for the floor.

I glued all the bits together and came up with this

Man it looks great you did an awsome job and it looks like it is a proven trail rig dents and all. Way to go

Just when you thought you've heard/seen everything, you showed up.I've been kicking around the idea of making my own body,84-88 Toyota.I will never look in the housewares section of Wal Mart the same, first nylon cutting boards and now this.Great work.

Thanks! I hope to inspire more people. I would like to see more metal bodies out there.

In fact I was just out thrashing on the flatty a few minutes ago. I keep beating on the body but it still seems to keep it's shape

I am loving the metal bodies you've done. I just may have to try one myself. I don't know if I missed the pictures or not but how are you attaching the body to the rigs?

That is awesome, I used your technique and built a few bodys for me and my dad for our road cars....... we've always driven pretty hard and have done some damage to lexan bodys but this just takes it to a new level. Thanks for the inspiration..........unbelievable fun. The only thing is I'm left to fix the damages after were done. Oh well......
