|  Joe's flatty The revival!
Well last weekend I was thinking about the comp we just had yesterday and was looking at my 2.2. I thought "boy is it boring, I need something different" I was also contemplating making another metal boddied truck similar to my 1.9 when i remembered that i had this large GI Joe MB Willies lying downstairs.  So I grabbed it and sat the body on my 2.2 chassis and wouldn't you know it the wheelbase was perfict! So the idea was hatched to replicate the flatty in aluminum. First thing was to dissamble the car  Then i had to seperate the hood and cowl.  I don't have any pics but next i simple molded the metal around the fenders and hood. Then i copied the floor and inner fenders to paper and cut and bent flat pieces of aluminum for the floor. The original grill was not to my liking  So I sketched one onto card paper and cut the details out then clued the card paper to more pieces to give it some thickness. when i was done i had this  After the body was finished I took my XRC chassis and fabbed a frame and removable cage to it  With the body mounted it looked like this  Here is my driver Joe checking out his new rig  Looks happy huh?  |

After I got her all runnin and painted, I sent Joe out for some poser shots! (I wouldn't let him do too much, I didn't want to dent it up before the comp)    I ended up reducing the flex from the original set-up and I tell you what, I like it much better. It might not look as impressive but the rear is a whole ton less floppy Looks Happy doesn't he!   Dang it Joe What did I tell you about holding onto the roll bar!!!  That's better. All His shifters are within reach  I even got all the electronics Tucked up under the hood  Then it was off to the comp |

sweet! It's nice to see something other than the run of the mill rigs... I really like that body! The roof line looked a little tall, but once the GI JOE got stuck in there it looks alot better nice work!  |

At the comp Joe didn't do to bad for his first time. The rain the night before and the humidity that morning made for slick conditions. Here he is stuck before gate 2  I told him not to take it easy and i guess he listened   After the comp Joe wanted to play and since it was nicely broken in from the comp I figured what the heck. So I pulled the fenders back out and let him go    Boy his driving style is unforgiving!    Eventually his cockyness got the better of him and he took a nasty tumble     He was ok and i managed to fix most of the damage so he'll be set for another day And here is some close-ups of the carnage for you're viewing pleasure         |

That's cool. It would be hard for me to bash a body like that when I had spent so much time on it, but the realistic body damage is awesome. Nice carnage!!

I'm not sure which was better...... seeing metalmasher inflict the carnage to the body, or the evil laugh of joy that came out of him after he bashed the body into the rocks. |
