Galvanised steel Fj pickup truck

Well Hello everyone!
Ive been browsing this forum for a while now, reading up and working on my first build. This things taken me about a year so far (lost interset about half way through ), but its finally coming together.

I really wanted to make something with a stock look, no massive tires or anything so i modded up some tamiya mud terrains, theyre rock hard but look awesome imo:

I did these using the sidewalls from from midnight pumpkin tires then dremeled the sides for a reasonably smooth finish. 8)

I had figured out pretty much everything on the computer - the problem being what to make the cab out of :x

After trying and failing with aluminium I managed to solder one up out of galv sheet, using molded fiberglass for the hood:

This works pretty good for a model with a ruffed up dirty finish;-)

the chassis and tranny is a pretty standard setup, but i did do a fair bit to the f350 axles, replacing the ends with soldered brass tube, giving a clean rear and a (hopefully) stronger front.

excuse the dangling axle wrap bar:

soon to be replaced steering knuckles:

the steering is pretty stiff with a chassis mounted servo and a pivoting bit screwed to the axle:

pretty much all the stuff is done with LPG soldering, a drill press and a bunch of handtools, no brazing or milling here:-(

anyways, heres the rest of the pics (temporary wooden roof)

Ive still got to hinge the wooden sides onto the bed, mold/paint/fasten the roof, make an interior and paint all the aluminium black8)

At least it runs well:-P now i just need some batteries for it

oh yeah, it weighs a F*** load and is about 65cm long.

Will post some decent pics when i get it looking a bit more finished.
Then i gotta saveup for a hilux highlift:roll:

thanks to all you guys for the inspiration!

I am now ashamed of all of my scale rigs:shock: that is some amazing scale building right there, we should all take lessons from this truck:shock:

WOW!

That means a lot coming from you man!
I never would have built it if i hadnt found this site, Some of hiluxes, g-wagons, fords and customs here and on scale4x4 are far more impressive than my humble truck:)

The FJ may look good on the net, but the front axle sags in the middle and the whole truck is slightly banana shaped from above:shock::lol:

I should have the front seat finished in a day or 2"thumbsup"

If only i had one of those 1/8 hard plastic fj bodies:roll:

rcjeepbuilder 01-08-2008 05:36 AM

No man screw those hard plastic fjs its way cooler to make your own! And you sir have done one hell of a job.Your paint skills are as good as your fab skills as well.So keep those pic commin man ! and I think you should stick to the original rendering...
And thanks for sharing!!!

Mirage 01-08-2008 06:21 AM
