Default Bodies & the rules

Jason, could you please post some examples of legal bodies that are close to the 70% rule? Could you please also post some examples of illegal bodies?

I did a quick search of "bodies" under this forum and came up short. I could have sworn somebody asked the same question, though. Actually, I just found the question. Hackster asked in the rules thread.

After "reading" through that thread, I'm pretty confident that my body is legal--but, I'd hate to find out the hard way.

Maybe I'll bring two bodies:
1. The I think I'll get away with it body, and the ...
2. "You got to be kidding me, that is legal." body. "It's, like, 90% there. Okay, maybe 80%."

That link was like a circle, round and round again...never finding the answer.

Is this body legal?

A quick glance you'd think that good 'ol Hackster just chopped the entire body from front to rear, yet the side panels are tucked up towards the chassis. Is this considered legal?

How about my old school body? Legal? Rear has been bobbed about 1.5" and all fenders have been cut out. Legal?

How about we all just post a picture of the body we plan to run at Nats and the masters can decide if it passes.

All those bodies are easily legal IMO. I think my CJ body is cut right at the max that is allowed.

Id have to disagree. I dont think that you should be able to cut off the entire side of the body. There is no way that is 70% of the body remaining. No fenders, headlights, grille, doors, tailgate, taillights, not to mention a large portion of the bed is cut out and some of the hood is missing.

Don't for a second think I am complaiing about your body specifically. I personally think this rule is bunk because there is no actual line of what is and what isnt 70%. What body needs to be 70%? Is this 70% of a 1/10th scale bug body, or a 1/8th scale maxx sized bronco?

This is the reason that I orignally asked the question. I wish someone would take the riegns on this. There was a link to another thread that I read very carefully. There was no actual conclusion on that thread earlier.

Maybe someone could say, make up some guidelines. You must keep at least the grill, tailgate, and doors or something like that.

Oh i guess since Toyo let the cat outa the bag. I hinged the entire side of the body. I DID NOT BEND IT UP. the truck maintains the stock look from the sides, and is about 80% intact.

I would like to know if you can bend the body and if that is legal also?

The guys that are bending the bodies up, are these going to be allowed to run?

Someone help us out here. Maybe someone who is going to be the judge of this at the comp.

Thanks in advance.

I was on the rules committee, and I can only speak of the intent of the rule as it was discussed in the committee forum. The rule was intended to be a guideline to keep our trucks looking like trucks. At this time it will have to be a judgement call of the competition officials.

If a driver wants to try to gain an unfair advantage by pushing the limits of the body rule then he should be prepared to back up it with his own proof.

Presently I know of only 2 ways to some what accurately measure it

1) Weigh the body before, after trimming.

2) Take pictures of the body before and after trimming. Over lay some graph paper, and count the squares in each photograph.

I have personally done some testing on this, and if you follow the truck must still look like a truck portion of the rule. You will be well with in the limits of 70%.

The body that microgoat cut up in the other thread, has the grill missing, part of the hood, fender flares, tailgate, part of the bed, and part of the doors. DTP's body is missing the doors but has the bed, making it legal IMO.

I don't think there's anything that says you can't fold the body, a few of us here in Colorado have folded the bodies before.

There isn't going to be a clear line as to what is legal, unless we all run identical bodies.

DTP's body is fine, IMO. His sides are cut where mine are folded, that's the only difference in the two.
