Have any of you done any crawling at Wade Mountain? The Alabama Geological Survey shows a belt of Hartselle Sandstone around the upper part of the main "hill." I did some exploring up there last weekend and there is a lot of siltstone and limestone with a smattering of sandstone in the sections of trail that I covered (Wade Mountain Greenway Trail, Fossil Bench Trail, and Bostick Trail.) The boulders and outcroppings in the clear-cut under the power lines offer a lot of neat lines. Everything is too overgrown and swarming with wasps and carpenter bees right now, though. The approach from the parking area on Pulaski is a beast. It took about 30 minutes of walking just to get up into the rocks. I think the trail head off of Spraggins Hollow offers better access and a quicker approach. I probably won't go back until the Fall and when I do, I'll go with my wire brushes, small pruning shears, and my fold-up rake.
