where do you go to crawl? I have a small spot behind my apartment complex I haven't found anywhere with any good rocky spots to play. What kind of crawler do you have? I have a K3-2S with TLT axles and a toyota body. I have a K2-3L I am going to use a clod body or an F650 on soon.

yeah yeah yeah, I know the minis are a bit obscure, and the platform I am using is discontinued, but they are fun none the less. If it weren't for these crappy ssmt's, we wouldn't have found this forum. With the help of www.minirccrawler.com , it looks like the minis will be supported by larger manufacturers.

ALL HAIL THE POS SSMT

haha... anyway I am in the Central Gardens district, located in Midtown.

What do you do for fun other than R/Cing it up? I'm a drummer in a local band called Cremains.

Well we actually plan on getting there around 9. Set up will take around 2 to 3 hours. So Im figuring by noon it's gonna be on! Remember if you all are coming out you have to have 2.4 ghz on your trucks. We can't interfere with the racing going on. If you don't have it I will have all my rentals. I'll also have my comp rig, and scaler!"thumbsup" We will be out there til probably around 9 or 10 p.m.

There is a spot at the Houston Levee apartments (near houston levee and Hwy 64) that is pretty cool. I've only been down there once, so I don't know how the management will react to crawlers. There is a sign, but I think it's mainly for the kiddies. There are some cool pics of it here http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123759

and a couple clips of my buddy (who lives there) driving my rig on it's first real outing.

the more I think about this, I'm not sure how long we will be able to crawl out there. My buddy wants to check with management first. I think that's a bad idea because once he informs them that there will be R/Cs down there, they will say that it will draw kids or something. I'm stumped.

Oh well. I'm still working on my back yard spot. Currently there is a (rough estimate) 5'x10' spot back there. I hope to extend that 10' to 20' by this saturday. Anyone with ideas, or obstacles that they want to bring by, by all means shoot them my way. I'm in midtown.

I went scouting for spots over the weekend and I found some spots down on the river. There are some big rock bluffs at Riverfront park, but they are pretty steep and I really don't want my rig to take a swim in the Mississippi.

I found the Mississppi River Greenbelt park over in Harbor Town has some great spots. There are two bluffs, one right on the water and one 100 or so feet back. Both have great rocks.

yes yes. Just let me know and on the way you can stop by my place and check out my course. I got a hold of some thick cardboard tubes and I now have a tunnel that you can drive through and over:-P! I was a little skeptical of the cardboard with the weather and all, but I have access to a ton of them and I can just replace them when/if they get bad. My backyard course is coming together smoothly!

Good looking spot. I have just jumped back into crawlers about waist deep. I bought a Tamiya High lift hilux and an Axial ARTR. I am going to end up building a "pond" in the back yard. If it looks good I can get away with it with the fiancee and have a bad ass crawler spot without having to go anywhere. My ARTR will be here in the next couple of days and my hilux should be finished in a couple of weeks. It is built but I have to paint it and get all the electronics mounted.

It is built but I have to paint it and get all the electronics mounted.

sounds good!

North memphis near the MPD training academy. I am about 5 miles from the academy. If you don't know where that is it is at N Watkins and 51. Yep, in the hood.. I have been living at this house for about 2 months now. No problems.. pretty nice little area. I am suprised by that.

My artr got here a few days ago if you hadn't read it in the Axial section. I went with a 55T and a JR 8800T servo. I ended up changing the suspention some as well. I put the big spacers in, T maxx red shocks and retainers, and flipped the axle and link in the mount on the axle. It lowed the truck alittle and got me to about 70-75 degrees of flex. It's much better now.. just need a spot with some rocks! The boxes in the living room are ok but I was some of the real deal!

Is this Cory?? I will have it tomorrow.. are we racing them or just goofing with them? I am going to have to put my IGT together at the race track. Between being lazy and playing with my crawler more when I got home I didn't touch it. I am bringing the F1 as well. Are we racing the 18Rs tomorrow too?

Guys, I'm fiending for a gtg, comp, beer drinking session....lol preferably all 3 in one. Is there anything in the works for late summer or fall? No DIG yet, but I'd like to see how well my rig does without it.

I've also been hearing things about a LHS spot. No real details yet, but it looks promising for us memphians! :)

It was just random. I was testing diffrent springs on my AX-10. I am renting Chris's house so I go up there atleast every other Saturday to pay rent. We are racing 18Rs up there this sunday I think, you should come hang out and race if you have one. I will confirm we are racing so you can come hang out if you are free.

No I don't have an 18r. My AX-10 is the only rig that I own.

I've looked for springs up there, but I didn't see anything that would fit the stock ax10 shocks. Did I overlook some in there?

He should have several AX-10s in stock in the next week or so. I think he has one RTR coming and two ARTR. He also has a PTI Golioth in stock right now. We are talking about getting several people with them to give us something to do when the racing season is not going.

No, I made some work. I used T-maxx reds springs and put the T-maxx retainers in to make it work. They work pretty well. I am going to get him to order some axial softs though. I get about 75 degrees of flex and lowered the truck alittle. It acually works very good like I have it.

ahh I see. At one point I had nearly 90 degrees and it was way too much. I have since limited the flex down to about 45 degrees. I tried out the droop set-up last night, and so far it's pretty cool. I'm using the stock 30wt now though... I need to get to the shop and pick up a heavier weight.

Guys, I just checked the forecast, and this weekend is said to be in the lower 60s and upper 80s! That is some well needed relief from these temps that we've been seeing.

Does anyone want to get together down at the River ramp? Or we could even do a GTG at my house in midtown. I've got some well-needed remodeling that needs to be done to my course, so any input on gates would be great. With proper spacing and set-up this cousre has some great potential. I'd like to start having some mini comps. As of now my weekend is totally free.

I don't know if I can this weekend. Make a day and time and I will do my best. If you know anyone wanting an AX10 Chris (Nitro RC Chop Shop on Mt. Moriah) has 1 ARTR, 1 RTR, and 1 Kit. The rock crawler trailer that came to the TCS race is for sale and I think he may be considering buying it. It would be helpful to let him know that there are more people interested in it. there are a couple of other spots around town you guy s might consider looking at, in germantown by the Chik-Fil-A, the park there has a trail that goes under Germantown Parkway - I am pretty sure there is some decent terrain there, also at 385 & forrest hill - there is a park on the corning that has several drainage areas with lots of river rocks and stones...might be a shorter drive than the forrest...

I bought the scorpion kit from NRC and have been playing with it...you gusy have any suggestions on how to make it better? it is pretty much bone stock now.

after doing some homework on the forum, you will see that these are the basic mods that mostly everyone does to their AX10

relocating the battery to the front axle (get a split pack)
new tires ( there are many choices, but losi rock claws, panthers, proline hammers work well. I'm thinking about trying out the New Proline rock carver when it comes out)
drilling an air vent hole in each rim
bent lower links
adding weight to the rims

got any pics of your rig? or how about a list of your electronics and junk?

Already working on the battery...
New tires will be on the way tuesday...cougars or badlands
Vent holes drilled
"high clearance links" on the way
used airsoft bb's in the wheels for weight....

For set up I am pretty lame at the moment, I built the kit early this week...a friend of mine gave me the RTR radio, esc and motor...I am currrently using a 645MFG servo....other than that it is BONE stock out of the box. I will have a Novak Rooster on the way this week too!!!

There is that one spot at my buddies apartments in cordova, but after going out there a couple of times I have found that there aren't to many lines for us with all of that huge quarry rock. It's neat for a minute, but it gets boring pretty quick. The river will have lines upon lines upon lines. It's up to Blake (bnoland.. since we already planned on doing it at my house) but the river sounds great to me. I just want to spank you girls with my dig-less rig . We can even stop by my place in midtown afterwards to check out my backyard deal, if we decide to go to the river. I have about 4 lines back there that test sidehilling, off camber situations and all that good stuff.

I suppose it wasn't too deep.... I try to keep my rig away from the wet stuff. I'd hate to ruin my electronics. That and the air holes in my rims would let it all in.

that get sme thinking... what do the scale guys do for their tires? do they just squeeze the water out of them and frequently change foams?

It was deep in a few places ( I avoided those areas ) but most of it was not more than about half way up the wheel.

Yessir. I went up there earlier on my lunch break and picked them up. I suppose he bought a couple sets of them since they are so popular. Went and ran it today .. With Chris and Shawn .. man this place is hardcore .... Its ure avarage size riprap with a brook running through it.... very cool place ... Yea, the place off of forrest hill? It is a great area. Chris called me when they were heading out there, I wanted to go. I put my new x-trail scale chassis on and wanted to test it but I guess something when back in my radio because all the sudden it went to full throttle and it wouldn't stop. It hit the couch and pulled the front wheels up a couple of times and then I heard the ugly pop just before I got to it. I will have it fixed soon. Mine is now running a Jeep rubicon body and a full droop set up with the scale chassis

It fit very well on the xtrail chassis. The wheels tuck right in the wells.. we'll see how it does acually moving since I didn't get to yet. With the x-trail you have some wheel base adjustment. I am probably going to order dig for mine since I broke it instead of doing rear steer.

Scott at Mid-South Hobbies (The Hobby Shop) said that they were going to set-up a rock display so we can show-off our stuff. When I get enough info on it, I will make a thread about it.

Yeah I will be there for sure ... A real close bud of mine is building a 1:1 crawler for a guy and he may go ahead and puts some tires on it and take it up there ...

I will be there.. I think I am going to strip the jeep so the tube bronco is up and going and bring it to there since I am not going to be able to get another axial kit before then. I guess that means I need to get my butt moving on finishing the interior of the bronco as well.

The bronco isn't going to be ready but the Jeep is ready to rock. I have started building the interior out of syrene but I will not have it running before then. I will bring it to show the progress I have made. Hopefullly it will be going soon though.
