Hey Mike. Looks like it has, this is an easier link than the one posted over in competition section, http://www.hobbytown.com/VARIC/Events.html .
Should be fun, I'm actually going tomorrow to check out the setup and help with getting the courses ready and do a little crawling. I'm hoping that it gets a decent turn-out.

what rules are they following for the comp? i'm assuming the usrcca rules. i'm working on getting up there that day "to take my gf shopping". so hopefully she's willing to go. i doubt i'll have my r2d hooked up with moving to new house this month but maybe i'll roll with the stock ax10 instead...
Thorsteenster
02-04-2008, 02:21 PM
Just guessing, the course will probably be too easy for more of a comp setup rig. Most likely will have more fun with the AX10. "thumbsup"
Bring a 1.9!
Slyp Dawg
02-05-2008, 05:05 PM
I saw the course when I was up there day before yesterday and you are right, it would favor a scale rig more than a comp rig, at least based on the obstacles I saw. there was one obstacle that would require a rig capable of going nearly vertical without tipping, but the rest looked like they would barely give a comp rig a need to strain. I'm really looking foreward to watching the micro-Ts buzz around their track. that would be a major hoot to watch.
does anyone know if we will have access to power outlets if we need to charge our batteries? I'd hate to miss part of the crawl due to my battery going flat. that would suck

Yes, it was not set up as of last Sat. It was worked on last night and will be worked on thursday night to finish it up.
I tend to think the course is more 2.2 comp and 2.2 scale. I believe the 1.9's will have a hard time. It looks easier then it is.

I had an absolute blast. I do wish I had either star cut the foams or just left them out completely, tho. traction on that wood ladder going up to the first obstacle was pathetic. when I saw the pics I thought the course was going to be easy. HELL NO! those grey obstacles are slick as all get out! get them rhino lined in grey!

02-09-2008, 04:28 PM
I too had a blast, sadly the 2.2 mudslingers were no match the the grey manmades. I did however take some serious notes and we will return with a better prepared rig. Although not bad for driving the truck only one time briefly before the comp.
Todd
Slyp Dawg
02-09-2008, 04:57 PM
yea, I heard someone say that the sticky 2.2 slingers are the sh1t. I would definitely look into a TCS boomerang rear link mount and set it up with the right link under the plate and the left link above the plate in order to pretty much get rid of torque twist without having to play around with preload or spring rates. your rig looked to have a hell of a lot of torque twist. of course, as to not be hypocritical I should probably do that mod myself. my rig could probably use that mod and some shorter shocks and a little massaging done on the foams. and weighs in the wheels. the list goes on and on
you see the micros running?
yea, they zipped around a bit after the comp 2.2s were done running. I ran over the metallic red bodied one with my axial accidentally, and had the jeep bodied one run into my foot a few times

Had a great time Saturday at the comp. Glad that there was as big a turn-out as there was. Lots of new faces crawling and plenty of spectators. I think a few scorpions are going to be bought here soon.
I think everything went fairly smooth, however we did learn some things to make it even more smooth next time. The course was not as easy as everyone thought it might be, which was good, and it wasn't impossible either (except the Finals bonus gate, I don't even think Franks' super made it up that beast).
Thanks to Dave and Ned and HobbyTown USA. I'm glad that VARCOR was able to work them to help make this event what it was. Looking forward to the next one.

Yep, Hopewell it is. I go by your way every single day to work and my gf lives down Rt 10 in Chester so I'm always going through Enon. I had a small rock garden in my yard, but most of it went to the course at HobbyTown. Have you heard of City Point in Hopewell? I'm the guy with the scorpion wearing the chopped up 50's chevy body. My regular bashing body does not meet minimum size regs so I sacrificed my savage to the cause. Now that I have the official comp rules I see that " all bodies should resemble it's original form". I'm afraid it looks more like that flying dog from the kids movie "The Neverending Story". Anybody know what that dogs name was?

well, at least I outscored Riffster and Butch S. I really need to get longer body posts so I can mount up the bronco body. and some rock stomper 1.9s on stock car wheels. anything with less offset than the stock axial rims. and a TCS delrin front link mount/servo mount, with a delrin boomerang rear link mount to go with it, and RCP rear lockouts and straight axles. oh, and a set of delrin axle plates for the front and a 7 cell axle mount pack, or an 8 cell unit if I get a charger that can do 8 cell packs. man this hobby can get expensive quickly.
BLAAAAAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHH!
sorry
