The benefits of this design:
Need only remove outside locking ring to adjust weight
No need to remove the tire, saving time
Adjust weight by adding or subtracting 9/16" ball bearings
Just about any type of wheel weights (other than bearings) can be used
Ball bearings will always stay at the bottom of the wheel to keep center of gravity at its lowest point
Largest ball bearing 9/16" or smaller can be used
The key to this design using any type of ball bearings is to KEEP them below center line of the wheel; if above center line it will not work as intended. If you are above center line the bearings have a tendency to flop over the top and lose the benefit of keeping the center of gravity at its lowest point
This design doesn't add a lot of weight, but what weight is there keeps the center of gravity at its most useful point (low in the wheel)
If you find yourself highcentered, we found that if enough wheel speed can be generated you create an out of balanced condition, which could help remove you from being high centered
Each wheel weight 10.3 oz complete with 4 bearings
A set includes:
Four (4) Mayhem 2.2 Competition Double Phatty Rims in Machine Finish
Four (4) Traditional rings - your choice of color (red, blue, gold, black or machine finish)
Four (4) Competition 16 Rings - your choice of color (red, blue, gold, black or machine finish)
Sixteen (16) 9/16" dia steel ball bearings
128 stainless steel button head screws
Plus engraving (within reason) on any anodized color (machine finish would be hard to see).
Shipping included within the USA (outside of USA contact us for quote)ready for shipping the 1st week in March. Pre-orders being accepted now. Lifetime replacement warranty, excluding anodize and hardward.
We will have more mid March - so place your order

I love the idea and the wheels look great!
Nice Job.
I have a question:
How tightly "packed" are the bearings?
I can see that if dirt gets into the race area, the bearings wouldn't roll and could remain stationary if they were in there too tight.

Thanks! Your right that could happen. The bearings are 9/16 .562 dia. the depth of the bearing area is .590 so you have about .03 worth of play. We might redesign the ring to completly inclose the bearings, But it would not be a water tight seal. I'm sure I will get good feed back. We only have two working sets we used for testing and had no problems, We did not test in mud. Thanks Mayhem Eng.

Took these this weekend. Just an FYI I mounted up tires with just 4 screws per side and I could not pull the beads out. Like I said before the fit and finish are some of the best I have seen. On to the pics. The sound of the balls rolling around is kind of cool as well. If you are looking for the beefiest than these are for you.

The overall weight of these are really cool. They are very solid. The balls don't have much room to bounce around so they don't feel sloppy at all. They seemed to be very stable at wheel speed and gave some nice advantage over standard fixed weight.

but did you notice when you got hung up on a ledge that it was easyer to get off compaired to standard weighted wheels
thats what im really digen about these wheels besides for wieght placement, did you notice an improvment in stablity?

I agree with Franky Rizzo, they are real stable and they do make a cool noise when I run my rig. I run a R2D with a black revolver and a 14T pinion. When I use dig it works just as smooth as with weighted or heavy wheels. No slop at all with the ball bearings. They don't bounce around or flip over the top of the center of the rim. They stay low just as planned. Mayhem did they're homework with these. Great job guys!"thumbsup"

Sorry, I should have clarified a bit in what I posted.
What I meant was, I currently have those HR screw hexes installed on my crawler and they fit fine w/ the plastic Axial beadlocks. So I would imagine that I would have to either cut them down (which I dont want to do) or buy some stock axial hexes and shave them down to fit the wheels properly. Then again, if Mayhem is in the process of making flat face hexes to fit their wheels.... I will just wait and order those at the same time. Then I keep the HR hexes for if I want to run the axials.

Look great tedrockz.. Are you running them air tight, or with a breather hole?
Im trying to think of a good place to put a breather hole.. Maybe a screw hole breather like the guys with MSD's did or a hole where the bearings ride.. not sure if the hole would affect the rolling of the bearings..... probably not with a small enough hole
Hey mayhem what do you think?

Having an air hole in the bearing area will not hurt how the bearings work, just keep it as small as you can.

A small hole in the bearing area will not hurt anything, try to keep the hole as small as you can.
Thanks Mayhem Eng.
Also keeping the hole offset from the location where the outer diameter of the bearings roll will eliminate any problems.

I got mine today, these things are an absolute work of art!!!! I just go them mounted up, I had to take down the stock Axial hexs, it widened the wheelbase a little, which will be nice I think. Going to start with 4 bearings in the fronta and 2 in the rears. For my breathers, I had them go into the corner of the ball bearing chamber, so they are out of the way of the bearings and they should stay relatively clean with the outer ring protecting it. Some pics:

Mayhem Eng.
03-21-2008, 09:25 AM
Ya your right that could happen, It's one of those things you have to get use to what you have and make a justments for. Mayhem Eng.
I was thinking more about what you said, with fixed weights in that same situation you would have that weight high in the wheel and a sudden stop or turn could cause problems as well. I think keeping the weight low in the wheel will help improve that situation. The balls are going to be at the same angle as the hill for the most part. The question is how far will the balls move if you stoped real quick. A lot of things come into play.

As far as servos, I have no idea.....If you want, order your wheels now and I will hold them until you are ready. We are running a batch as I write this. We will be shipping the week of the 31st Thanks Mayhem Eng. Free shipping for the military. Can't go wrong with that....
Man I look at this thread everyday and I think to myself that i should have ordered those before I ordered my new chassis. I think i might put a set of these wheels as my backgroound on the computer. Give the wife a hint. Next month I hope I can get them, I just haven't figured out what color and what I want on the wheels. once again sweet wheels!!!!
Also what size servos is everybody running with these wheels?

So what is the average lead time between production runs? I think you have a great product and I can't wait to get a set. I won't be able to order till June but I know it will be worth the wait. Keep up the good work!
