Gateway Scale Rock Crawlers get together dates for 2008

We are a group of laidback RC nuts who get together to showoff and have fun.
Anybody can come, run what you brung
Scale in our case just means less than 1:1 not specifically scalers.

This will just list "Official" gtg dates, impromptu gtg's can and will still happen through the normal "hey anybody bored today" threads.

2008: First Sundays around noon.

March 2: Simpson park
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=simpson+park,+st.+louis&sll=38.40931,-90.56971&sspn=0.268485,0.549316&ie=UTF8&ll=38.554542,-90.47709&spn=0.016747,0.034332&z=15

April 6: Busch Park,

40/61 to left on 94, then hang a right on D. Busch wildlife entrance is only a few miles up. Then you just basically follow the signs to lake #35. Parking shouldn't be a problem.

May 4: JB (jefferson barracks) park.
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=Jefferson+Barracks+County+Park,+United+States&sll=38.554542,-90.47709&sspn=0.016747,0.034332&ie=UTF8&cd=1&geocode=0,38.513220,-90.278470&ll=38.508348,-90.281525&spn=0.033515,0.068665&z=14

June 1:

July 6:

August 3: I want to try and do some trail running in the woods behind my house. the neighborhood kids have made some decent trails for their 4-wheelers, and I was driving them today. fun stuff.

September 7:

October 5:

November 2:

december 7: hey it was still warm enough in 07...

I figure we can do one thread with this in it, and it can be edited as we figure more out

I figure we'll try and do the july one in simpson so it is closer to the city for our traveling texas brother
do you figure it is drier in june or september?

waterproofing and bug spray? sounds a lot like camping to me :-P

see if you can find the area on google maps so we can add a link to it for those unfamiliar with your location.

Well looks like the guys at MT were a bit off, they didnt know of any groups here for crawling, but one guy told me to check here, so props to MT for helping me out.

I am curious, want to make sure this is more or less open to anyone into crawling. I am new to it but spent time using castlewood to understand how to drive, how things work, and time reading threads here to learn all I can.

I have a couple AX10s, 1 comp (if it meets regs), one scale in the build process right now, an a maxx crawler custom that should hopefully be back to me next week. If I read the other threads correctly, these all are ok.

I am out for fun and to get more into the hobby (minus club politics, been there done that, not again, lol) as crawling became my second love next to my helis.

Happy to see there is a place for crawlers here in STL.

LMAO, OK now I know this is going to be fun, you guys have a sense of how to be a wise A**. I will fit right in.

I have seen way to many thing in RC helis and Cars where guys are just too uptight, takes all the fun outta it.

By the way, I am the cool guy joining the "RC Dorks" (my g/fs way of putting it,lol)

hairba11
02-22-2008, 06:09 PM
and lemme guess, you're one of the guys whose second ax-10 has a pink body so your g/f will drive it?

Mav-1981
02-22-2008, 06:16 PM
Funny you should say that.

Nah my old version Emaxx (I actually have 2, gave my G/f the old one when I bought the new version) has a purple body with silver-blue "flame" design per her request.

So you weren't far of, which is scary. B
But the crawlers are ALL MINE, I AINT SHARIN' lol.

Haha, purple. Yeah we are pretty well relaxed. Everyone brings a little bit of everything out when we get together.

Mav-1981
02-22-2008, 06:26 PM
Sweet. I will probably have my small heli with me too just to grab some aerial vids when everyones climbing around.

Now if TCS would put the sace frames back "in stock" on the site so I could get it here, I would be much happier, lol. They told me they just gotta pack them up, must have a ton to do cause its been 2 days already. Working on the tube frame for my comp AX10 right now but thats not a huge rush, climbs really good now, I sut want the tube look. The Scale rubicon is driving me nuts cause I want to get that up and going, I will do the fancy stuff over time, but put together and climbing is my huge rush right now.

So what are you guys in the STL crew running? Wanna know what I am up against, lol.

I have,
well, actually i had thought about starting a missouri rides thread...
anyway, I have the '41 willys king
14'r txt (it's actually running)
the txt super donated it's servos to the 14'r. I still haven't got my plates made up yet.
if the esc and motors come back from traxass i'll bring my all new emaxx along
maybe a mini quake.

Mav-1981

I may bring my beast since Simpson park of course has water everywhere, the spill way may be some fun for it.

02-22-2008, 08:28 PM
This is going to be too much fun, lol. Crawlers and MTs, lets see how many of us manage to go home with everything in one peice.

I may even bring my psyco little Mini LST2. Wont crawl well, not much in low end torque, but full lockouts and on 1/10 buggy tires, would be interesting.

Man I feel like a real noob, lol. Talking about things i dont understand, been a long time since i have been at this level, oh well nice to not be expected much of again, lol.

/\ /\ /\ /\ LOL Another HOBBY DEALER like me. Gives you a taste and your hooked. Were jerks.

I can find the park in google maps but it doesn't have an address so I cant give that to ya. Go to google maps switch to satellite view and type in Case & Bucks. The addy that will come up is 7095 Metropolitan Blvd, Barnhart, MO.
Get directions there. It says it's on metropolotain blvd but to get into the lot you must turn right on monticello. You can see it from the satellite view. Then simply drive past case&bucks into the neighborhood and before you start to go up the hill and to the left there is a rock parking lot. Thats the place. The creek is just a 2-3 min walk into the woods. The mosquitoes get pretty bad when there hasn't been much rain (standing pools of water)

The thing to remember about this spot is it constantly changes depending on the weather. Sometimes it's very dry with only pools of standing water and other times you'd need a waterproof super rid to run most of it.
Basically we just start downstream and try to drive up the trail/stream all the way to the top. It's an awesome place.

There is a spot in fenton with a boat ramp which from the highway looks like a lot of fun. granted the highway is 50' up in the air at 60mph in that spot.

looking at the google earth, it would be the first light after 270 headed down 30 (sometimes it just blinks yellow, college on right) then left.
make a right where it T's (accross the street from some concrete tube place) and there would be a turnoff on the right before the old bridge

That would be cool. Theres alot of great stuff there. I'd imagine 30+ people would get left alone to do our business. We can just take over a section as ours for a while. If it was like 3 people it might be hard to get space on the rocks. Especially on a weekend.

The shut ins wont be busy in april and if you go up from the actual shut ins there is good places to run where there aren't many people regardless. Elephant rocks I don't think people would get in our way a s much and there isn,t much of a crowd anyways. Anyone interested in taking a scouting trip with me the next time it is warm?
