View Full Version : Never seen it so I did it.

I have never seen a Wk chassis that has been "cut" so i did it without a second thought. I cut my chassis in front of the shock towers and sanded it down then painted the ends silver. I have had no flex issues at all. I took the front bumper and cut the tabs off the ends and placed it where the stock servo/receiver mount was, that helped stabilize the rear end (chassis is flipped) I then flipped around the motor guard so the short end is near the front shock tower, That took care of the front end. With the battery box and servo mount gone there is a lot less weight and more room. Axles with large servo mounts can now move freely without hitting a "uncut" chassis. I also have a 2/3a stick pack on the front upper links with the esc mounted on top of that. Another cool mod that i did, i wrapped the lower traxxas links and parts of the axles with sports tape. I then covered the tape with CA glue. It worked a little like fiberglassing. This made the links smoother and stronger and protected the axles from damage. If you have comments or want pics just let me know.

Here's how I cut mine before I decided to ditch it and build a new one.

Thanks for doing that "thumbsup" I know it's cool to spend $20 to go to a good cause, but not being able to paste pics.....come on, that's just not cool.

You can post pics too. Just copy the [img] code on your photobucket account and paste it in your posts. I think it's the bottom link when you're looking at your photobucket pics. Try it out.

Here is the crawler flexing. I forgot to mention that i have no torque steer, i think its because of the top links that connect to the axle.

I think it makes sense. Especially if you mount the servo on the axle and also want to mount a battery pack on the axle. You won't have to worry about anything coming in contact with the chassis.

In the next couple weeks i will add new parts! 4 wheel steering this time. I checked out CKRC and I will get 2 195oz servos, traxxas 108mm links, and a Y-harness that has a built in servo reverser. The only thing i am not sure about on my truck is that battery. It works fine now but i'm wondering if it will work when i hit the rocks. Will it work the same as a sub-c pack just with less run time? Any replies would help a lot and point out any mistakes i did with the truck, this is the first time i have ever built a crawler. "thumbsup"
