hey that is cool.
I wasn't sure before but after seeing that vid...
that cantilever system will be going in the spare parts bin when I get mine.
(no offense to those involved)

Huh... So fully compressed suspension extends the shocks out rather than in.

Yep, that looks like the way they setup the cantilever system. I am not sure why Tamiya likes this setup...

Tamiya likes overly complicated stuff. TL01 gearboxes, cantilever suspension designs. Some of it seems to work, other stuff like overly complicated gears just adds more stuff to break.

I agree. Tamiya seems to overengineer alot of stuff these days. Still glad to see a dedicated crawler from them though. Ahhh, the good old days of the original Hilux.

The cantilevers are what operate the torsion bar.

JIA,
good to know, thanks for the info.
I was just stating that I prefer the more conventional coil over shock system.
I'll hold off further opinion until I give the stock set up a try."thumbsup"

Yeah, it's a bit hard to judge without having the actual vehicle in hand. Who knows, it might work really good.

I still don't understand exactly how the suspension works... It looks like the springs handle the articulation of the axle around the driveshaft (kinda) while the dampeners handle the (near) vertical movement of the axle. Someone please explain this to me :)

The shocks are operating reverse of what we think is normal, but the piston is still doing the same job.The design is pulling on the shock when the suspension is compressed.Looks like a droop setup with seperate coils.I want this truck.

Lol I agree. That setup is really complicated, looks like a lot of parts to replace if anything breaks. Still would like to try it out though, I mean they did design it for a reason

Simply remove the springs and replace the shocks with ordinary coil-overs and you've got an instant droop set up - you can't get easier than that!
