Here it is with m4 threaded rod lower links installed and upper link ends installed. Once I have it all put together Im going to bend and hack it up until I see what I want. The front end is going to be bent inward for clearance. All the screws washers and nuts are stainless steel for strength.

Here it is with the links installed(going to cut off the leftover rod ends). the outside front will be bent to conform to the upper linkage plate where battery and servo will be placed.

Heres the latest:
Covered links with brake line
Bent the lower links in the front
Attached shocks
Made These extended drive shafts
check out the COG on it so far.
I also ordered an outrunner Brushless motor for it and a 12kg metal gear servo
http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x215/sliver-surfer/100_2535.jpg
Put a stainless bolt and some nuts through yoke so when I poured the epoxy in shaft it would engulf itt
http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x215/sliver-surfer/100_2538.jpg
epoxied the other end in place and used pipe cutter to make brass tapered tight around plastic

Well, I will definitely give you an "A" for originality, and coming up with some fresh Ideas! How some of them are going to work, however, I dunno. I think that you are going to be finding yourself constantly re-tightening the nuts on your upper link/plate thing. (not sure what to call it?) I would at least take them back apart and put a nut on BOTH SIDES where the rods go through the flanges. That should help.

Also, the way you have this thing set-up (and knowing the stock WK shocks quite well) it's going to have a TON of flex, way more than you actually need. You could put a shorter set of shocks on it (like T-maxx shocks) and it would make the COG lower and limit the flex to a useful range. It would drop the ride height some, and you would lose a little center clearance, but that wouldn't even come close to being an issue.

But overall, not a bad looking first effort. It's definitely different.

Even if you never change a thing I still dig it. Two thumbs up. "thumbsup" "thumbsup"

Looks pretty cool if you are going for a scale look. If you are going for competition your weight will really hinder you. Ideally you should be able to lay your truck on it side and it should sit on you wheels only. If it rools onto its lid your center of gravity is too high. Dig the treadplate though

Thanks guys, The advice and compliments great and very much appreciated. When I get all the electronics in and give it a test run I will hack as much aluminum away as I can. I also plan on replacing some nuts with nylocks and the others will be loc-tited.

Its alive and a very very torquey. Its maximum speed with this setup is 3.7 km/h if I were to program the mamba to full but I have it set a normal so its real slow. Has 2x1300mAh lipo in parallel so 7.4v at 2600mAh. Mamba esc is on right hand side and rx is on left side

Small video, I have to epoxy the diffs I am not getting enough lock with the plumbers putty. I still need to ad some weight to the tires and axles.

very nice rig. how's the steering work?

Sliver-Surfer
03-30-2008, 11:12 AM
Thanks..Sorry I didn't take pictures of the Bead lock build. Basically you turn the tire inside out, place the bead in the bead channel on the outward side of the rim. Put a zip tie over the bead tightly. Pull the tire back over the rim. glue the inner tire bead in place with some Shoe Goo and place a rubber band over the tire so it acts as a clamp. "thumbsup"

I took it out for some climbing and the stock upper axle link ball did not hold so I built a rear 4 link with homemade carbon fibre upper links. I also moved the servo and built new steering tie rods.

They are not solid I cut the stock outer shaft in 2 pieces and used the brass as an extension.

Gotcha - its kind of hard to see that in the pictures! Others have done this with plastic pipe as well.
