Twin Force Crawler Question

I would like to see some pics of peoples Twin Forces that they have 4-linked and increased the wheelbase. I mainly want to see how you stretched the driveshafts or what sliders you may have used, and a quick example of how you got the yokes for the sliders to work on the TF tranny and axles. If no one has extended their wheelbase thats fine, but I would still like to here some different driveshaft options and how you can get them to work with the TF tranny and axles. (My goal is to increase the rear wheelbase on the TF to make it less likely to flip when doing steep climbs.)

Thanks for any help you can give. I did some searching, but I thought it would be easier and more to the point this way, and just ask for the information I was wanting.

I cut my driveshafts and welded a 1" piece in them. Works great for me. I bought and extended a Kyosho universal so I wouldn't loose a dogbone.

Did you use a regular welder, because I have a wire feed welder, but I wasn't sure if the shafts were made of a type of metal that could be welded with regular wire? I thought maybe something special was needed to weld them. Did you buy two universal shafts so you could cut a piece out of one to weld into the other?

Also, do you have some pics. (UPCLOSE TO THE SHAFT WERE YOU WELDED IT AND WHAT THE TRUCK LOOKS LIKE WITH AN EXTENDED REAR WHEELBASE.)

For the universal, I only bought one for the front. At $25 a piece, I had a hard time buying more for my $1000 project.

If your links are positioned right, you could just extend the stock dogbone/driveshaft.

I think neweramodels.com has some longer dogbones for sale for $25 each.

Thanks for the information man. I will have to give it a try. I already have one of the universal shafts. I'll let you know how it goes. It will probably be a while before I get it started. I'm currently working all day and going to school at night so its hard to find free time for the hobbies. But it will happen sometime soon I hope. Later

I used 1/4" wobblies,1/4" allen wrenches,a section of a 1/4" socket,1/2" tube and the factory drivecups. Weld them all up and you have truely bombproop driveshafts. I can go from a 15" WB to a 20" WB without and driveshaft mods. Each shaft has roughly 3 1/2" of slip travel.

Yes,they are a tad heavier than the Revo's but the weights down low and they are WAAAAAAAAY stronger. Honestly though,the Revo shafts are the easiest to do and are probly the most popular way to go.

How did you attach the Revo shafts to the TF Driveshaft outputs/pinions and TF Tranny outputs? did you Drill them or.......?

I cut the d-shafts in half. Used 1/4" rod and drilled the ends. Then I put the d-shaft halves in and brazed them. To keep them from falling out of the joint cup on the trans side, I welded the ends shut. They work great. I broke one this year after running most of last year.

Attaching the Revo's would be simular to attaching the maxx sliders. They are for a 6mm shaft but the Twin tranny outputs and pinions are 8mm. The best way would be to find a 8mm drill bit and drill them out. You can get by with using a standard sized bit but I'm not sure what size you would use,I'd recommend using one just a butthair smaller than 8mm. If it's drilled out to big it will woller around and kindly act like an unbalanced shaft in a real truck.

Hey everyone, thanks for the great info and pics. I have been on vacation so I haven't been able to check my post for a while. But I appreciate all the information.

I think I'm gonna try to go with REVO shafts. I'll let you know how they turn out.

Yes, I drilled the axles. If I need to, I can also drill the output shafts to accept the traxxas pin that goes through the shaft. Right now, I'm just using a grub screw. Works fine.

I'm in the middle of a revo shaft conversion, looks really easy. I just drilled out the ends (left them really tight on the shaft though), need to get the set screws and grind a flat spot of the shaft yet. Might do both sides just for safety's sake.

Can someone tell me how long you can extend a Revo Drive Shaft without it coming apart, and it still having enough contact between the two pieces to not break it easily? I want to extend my wheelbase and I'm just wondering how far I can stretch it.

If you go too long it won't work without using 2 shafts. You will have to use two female shafts, one on each end with the male splined shaft in the middle. Just glue the splined shaft into one of the female shafts and the other end will be able to slide in and out like normal. Basically your making a new longer male/splined shaft. Hope this makes sense.
