ok nacho, where were you in those pics. That looks like some nice territory. Is that the place you were talking about at 141 and 44 on the south service road?

Nacho

That is ALLLLLL the way up here in north county...if your google mapping it...it is basically at hwy 367 and Lindbergh..when you see lindbergh..scan south a hair and you will see a creek that crosses 367..the creek makes a sharp turn north..thats the spot...on the south side

Google shows a street called Lusher there...it isnt there anymore but there is a small gravel drive right off 367 thats where ya park

heres a slightly larger view of that area...

Kick ass looking spot"thumbsup"

Since this is a chit chat... I was going to go look at a house today but :x So I went to Busch Wildlife today , on the backside of lake 35. You can see it from 40:shock:

I was very impressed, I think it would please the fellers with supers;-)

That does look good. I just made a bunch of deals on thursday night, I'll soon have a tuber I am going to buid a camera mount onto so I can have a camera truck. I think the third channel will be a servo above the camera hitting the shutter button. by then the new compy shoulf be up and running and i might be able to finish editing the vids from the last weekender.

keep spots in mind, we need to fill out the official GTG locations

OK I am trying to boycott this forum, but when i see pics like that I CANT cause I have no way of talking to anyone besides Nacho and Jeff. Nice to see we got 2 new spots, BUT BOTH my 2.2 Crawlers are down and I need to switch the motor wiring around on the Super. Jeep is just under construction for the scale project and the AX10 compy is all tore up, but parts will be here monday. If anyone is planning on playing tomorrow, POST so I know, I can get the super and jeep running, and maybe some loctite will hold the shock together on the comp.

boycott because it takes up too much time?
or my problem, that it costs too much to read through it and get Ideas and execute the ideas....

I was talking about official first sundays, not tomorrow.

tomorrow is supposed to be clear and 47* I'm iffy on it.

On the other hand I did finally fix the rear axle on the willys, there was porosity in the casting for the pinion, and one of the teeth broke off and started chewing up the ring. There was one set or R&P at checkered I was able to pic up on friday and got the thing running.

No its actually bad reasons, but not going to get into it here.

My weather says 51 and usually its 5 - 10 deg off, lol. They say its supposed to be 55 and it hits 70, so I never listen. I know monday and thursday are supposed to be nice, so probably going to venture out if I can find either of these places.

Man I was so siked for today, thought all my parts for both 2.2s would be here. Th compy is ready minus the new body. All the rest is coming from RPP which they use UPS Ground (booooo!) so I wont have the tires for the Jeep or the new body till thursday. I may make it sunday, not sure yet though, but I dont think I will have the jeep since I have my son this weekend, wont have time to work on it. I didnt realize scale projects took so much work, lol.

Hey Max...

Im going down to Checkered Flag tomorrow afternoon..around 3:30..gonna check pricing on a bug shell and a traxxas servo..If your around SoCo then we can meet up! Let me know8)

EDIT: Might as well check out Simpson park while im down there...is it accessible after rain?

Mav-1981
03-19-2008, 03:33 PM
DONT EVEN TRY SIMPSON PARK, you may not even be able to get in there, they are preparring to close the flood gates and begining evac of Lower valley park area on the river. I just found out as the post office is getting ready to move up the hill to the school.

As for your bug body, they are the same price as Tower hobbies about, but they dont have any in stock, i was just there a little bit ago. Figured I would save you on that one.

I will be heading to Lake 35 tomorrow since all the spots on the river are going ot be damn near under water. Hopefully up there will be ok tomorrow. Going to suck if it actually floods down here cause the track and simpson park are going to flood and I think castlewood is going to be under water too.

03-19-2008, 03:37 PM
You still got my number? Just give me a call but I should be off work"thumbsup"

Simpson Park, the lake might be way high, I was down in Fenton today and crossed the Meramac and it was way high, enough for them to close the flood gates on Marshall road. But hell if you want to check it out I'll run out there with you.

What kind of Traxxas Servo, I gots a 2055 (?) in the basement. And they do have a HPI baja bug down there, I was there yesterday.

They had one yesterday, almost bought it myself:lol:

Mav-1981
03-19-2008, 04:00 PM
LOL, yeah there was a guy there today who had a rock crawler looking body, the losi one, and he bought an HPI body and I didnt see which one, but could have been that one, he was checking out as I went over to see if they had a Rubicon body on hand.

Mav-1981
03-19-2008, 05:52 PM
Simpson Park is officially UNDER WATER. I was able to get to the gates but that was it, water is about 6-8inches from coming over marshal road. I was sitting in on parking area, the one with the boat launch and was watching the parking lot slowly fill up with water. I drove through 2 inches coming in, 20 mins later was 4-5 over the entrance. TONS OF STUPID PPL in cars trying to get around down there. Marshall is still open at the moment, but my guess is only for a couple more hours since the lower areas are already close to being covered.

hairba11
03-19-2008, 06:47 PM
meremac is supposed to crest on friday at 36ft above normal.

Mav-1981
03-19-2008, 06:56 PM
Well at least I know that, you do realize how high that is done there right now, right. Its 19-20 ft over right now and marshall road is almost under underwater. No simpson park visits for a month or so,lol.

hairba11
03-19-2008, 07:14 PM
and it will be nice and stinky once the water recedes.

wonder if it will wash away some of the damn fishing line...

Mav-1981
03-19-2008, 07:15 PM
We could only hope,LOL. Our luck its going to bring everything from the other side of the lake to the spillway too.

Mav-1981
03-20-2008, 11:48 PM
MAXX's spot is A LOT OF FUN. might be a bit difficult for scalers, but the "spill way" there is perfect for them if your decently waterproof. The Maxx Super Crawler had a bit of fun out there, but i aint used to 2 stick, 3 axis control for it, I need to switch the steering channels around. I was having a blast with the 2.2 comp though. JUST BE READY TO WALK, its a ways from the parking, but all kinds of room for everyone. I am taking my sons wagon to pull behind my emaxx to carry everything next time, that maxx crawler gets really heavy after a few hundred feet.

hairba11
03-21-2008, 12:01 AM
That's why I get a big enough battery to drive it out to the location.

I wonder if I could put clod axles under a radio flyer instead of making a tow rig.....

Mav-1981
03-21-2008, 12:40 AM
Hey now theirs and idea, lol. I honestly don't think it would be that hard. Put a good 400+ oz/in servo for steering you'd be good. I would almost pay to see you do that. I will have a trailer for my AX comp that will be towed behind the jeep, but that aint going to cut it for everything else. BUt for now, my Emaxx can pull my fat a** in the wagon, so it'll do. You should have seen how I got my stuff back to my SUV, put my bag on top of the Maxx crawler. That bag had to way 30lbs (thnx to my G/F and her cleaning, she put every tool and peice of metal and battery I own in it I swear) but it carried it, slowly and it wasnt happy, but it did it till the battery went dead.

hairba11
03-21-2008, 07:37 AM
I guess maxx axles could work too. I'm keeping my emaxx fast though. not a lot of crawl spots in the back yard.

all I need are clod axles, and a donor wagon. I have a set of jumbo kongs with maybe a tanks worth of fuel use on them.

actually to keep it lightr, pick up a plastic sled next winter to use as the wagon bed

Mav-1981
03-21-2008, 12:33 PM
LOL, I have both my Emaxx's no way I would ever chop them up, thats why I bought the frame and axles from someone who already killed an emaxx.

You are giving me to many ideas though, lol. Hell if you got the clod axles, jsut hit a garage sale or 2, you'll find the sled or wagon pretty easy and cheap.

Nacho
03-22-2008, 02:32 PM
Well,I went up to the spot by me today, spent almost an hour clearing out some

I dug the lanyard out of my parts box and snapped to to the radio. No more fishing for futaba

Mav-1981
03-24-2008, 01:01 AM
LMAO, so that was the PROBLEM, Futaba wanted to be free and jumped outta your hands at the wrong time, lol. I might want to think about that too as much time as I spend going in and around water.

hairba11
03-24-2008, 07:34 AM
more like the truck rolled and was bouncing down the rock face toward the water, and I freaked, dropped the radio and caught the truck, and the t/x bounced off the rock face and into the water. It floated for a while, and Nacho tried to retrieve it with the end of his antenna and then it sank and turned off.
I opened up the radio and laid it face down on the floorboard of the truck, cranked the heat on full and let it blow it out for the 45 minut ride home. later that night i put it back together and it worked.
whew.

Mav-1981
03-26-2008, 01:17 PM
Well i got the SUV so we can do the same using mine, I got to much crap for anything small. 2-3 rigs, plus my Emaxx (If I go anywhere that involves RC that goes with me,lol) and my bag a what not. I can fit 2-3 with me so everyone that can itch in for fuel is still not going to be much.

Mav-1981

Nacho
03-27-2008, 01:14 PM

Gotta watch wet rocks at the creek Nacho and Maxx go to, we went up there today and needless to say, I AM RATHER SORE, a 4ft tumble down the rocks aint fun. Drove home and after sitting in the truck for that 25 mins, I felt like i was hit by a truck, lol.

hairba11
03-27-2008, 08:55 PM
yeah, i was almost of the opinion, if I can't walk out to get it, i'm not driving it over there.

Mav-1981
03-27-2008, 10:08 PM
It wasnt my crawler, IT WAS ME,lol. Crawler was a ft from my face on a ledge, jsut I stepped on the wrong wet spot on the rock and slip and fell tumbling between down and over, total about 4 ft before I stopped. No damage, just feel beat up. Then of course 2 mins later I am crawlign up the same spot, but at teh top this time and standing on slick little rock ledges that if i fell would be a broken leg at least, lol. My crawler did fall off there where I couldnt catch it in time and from there was over a 6 ft drop down to where I was standing. I broke a link and what not on the way down that, it was pretty ugly and a LONG FALL for a 2.2 crawler, lol. Nothign out there is places you cant get to, the high area you can stand up next to it and the crawler is eye/top of head level, your standing below it. Only thing out there you have to worry about is getting to close to the slippery edge and going in the drink.

BEYOND THAT THE PLACE IS FREAKING AWESOME, I like it more than Simpson personally, but its ntot as big as any of the other spots.

Nacho, any chance of finding a foot of either 3" or 6" pvc? prefereably 6" so I don't have to buy new wheels.
I've been thinking about drifting the emaxx since our conversation and want to make some slicks without bucking up for a 10 foot piece

You need to find or buy, or call me...you need 4 of the 6" street 45º turn

make sure they are the streets, basically the "street" side of a fitting slides inside the length of pipeand it fits all nice and snug, just have to saw the street part of to use them.I have 4 here, just havent sawed them yet.

I know, I took one into hoods but the largest they had was 4"
the traxxas tires are 5.75" in diameter
I have a set of 40 series moabs that are 6" that I was willing to try

my other thought was turning down a new set of 3.2 wheels to fit in 3" pvc
Turn Down (tern down)v: see also: drive in with a big hammer and a 2x4 for padding.

doesn't look like I'll be able to make it out, time is tight today. I might get some trail running done on the 4-wheeler paths around here. I'll try and do some video and show off.

Nacho, I aint had a problem with either of my ESCs yet, for this i am going to bag them since the water is rather deep. I have had NO problems ont he spillway with my Rooster, It its gotten soaked everytime. The only non waterproof problem is the stupid set button, if water gets in it directly, it'll make it act funny till its back out. SImple plastic bag, couple sip ties and some grease take care of it. The ESCs wont get hot enough on lather motors to worry about. ANd beyond that, i am going to put my jeep in the tub to see how water proof it actually is.

I finally got a shipping email form from happitoy. by next week I should have the stuff I ordered on the 5th of march. which includes the new battery for the 14'r. I'll have it running slow for this weekend, the willys king should be out there also (got a new R&P for the rear axle, no more clicking) The Chinese grab bag also has the parts for completeing Snakebite, so it won't be out yet. I did get part of my hardware order in from boltdepot.com so I have got M3 locknuts nw, just no bolts

it is almost getting cheaper to sit at home and have stuff shipped to you than it is to drive out and get it yourself. but you definently don't get the customer service...

1000 m3 grade 8.8 Nylon Lock Nuts were $30

I was scoping ebay out, looks like we could get 30 tennis balls for about $20. are we (as in GSRC) interested in getting some for trail markers?
if as many people show up on sunday as did for the march official, it would be in the neighborhood of $0.50 each to get 30 gates worth.
That would be enough for bonuses and a scale course or just a real long trail run.

of course there are 100 of them in another lot for about $50 guestimate we could make gates from the parking lot to the highway

I wouldnt see a problem with getting the bigger lot of Tballs. That way there are xtra or if we need the gates closer together we have plenty to do that "thumbsup"

that stil isnt that much per person. We could also split the balls up between 2 or 3 people just in case someone couldnt make it out 8)

Guess I get to start working on my tennis ball gun....

got the drift slicks glued up, I'll see how well they hold together, the wheel is wedged in using some fairly substantial friction and the pvc is glued on in two halves to itself sandwiching the wheel.

The emaxx is on the charger now, I'll pull it off before dark and try and get some video up.

WOW, that thing takes up a LOT of room while it's on the slide. my next trial may involve disconnecting the front end, and leaving rubber on it so I can actually steer. right now the damn thing wallows like my station wagon in snow.
Vid will be posting in this thread if youtube isn't a hoohah.

also, I am the new owner of some fuzzy balls.

Lot of 100 Used Tenis Balls
Winning bid: US $20.50

Ended: Apr-02-08 19:36:03 PDT
Shipping costs:
US $15.07

at 35.57 cents per ball, it wasn't too bad a deal.

I wonder if I can fit these things in the band saw....
cutting them in half by hand is going to suck.

You should have told me you were getting balls, I would have went in on them, hell I would have bought them too, wouldnt have mattered to me., granted for Jeffs thing we aint using gates, but gates are a great way to practice especially for those of us that are going to try out comps.

hairba11
04-02-2008, 10:40 PM
hey I'll let you buy some off of me. I figured split them up maybe 5 ways so there would most likely be a set at any gtg. I can't imagine needing more than 20 gates at an outing. maybe you, jeff, max p, chris, me. something like that might work.
it could be 15 gates 6 ways with 10 spares, whatever works.

I know jeff B-day bash isn't a traditional comp, but there could still be gates for the timed events. make it from there to there in as close to time x as possible, like the hill climb stuff. not nessesarily about power as much as control.

Mav-1981
04-02-2008, 10:54 PM
Thats fine for me, I can buy a set of them off you then. i will be at almost every GTG and about anything else I can find to go to,lol. I am addicted to this worse than cigarettes, lol. I am trying to figure out who all is going to the next Columbia comp cause tis out side in a creek bed so its worth my time to see how me and my compy hold up

Keep in mind that a section of 40 will be closed sometime this weekend for bridge repairs. Damage done by a crane truck, can't remember which bridge though:?:

If you don't want to fawk with all that, Page Extension runs into 94, and you can take that down. Adds a bit to the trip.

Directly from MODot website:
ST. LOUIS - Based on current weather predictions, the Missouri Department of Transportation bridge maintenance crews will close eastbound Interstate 64/Route 40 in Chesterfield from the Chesterfield Airport Road exit to Long Road from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, April 4 to prepare the Spirit of St. Louis Boulevard overpass for weekend repairs. Crews will close the interstate in the same location from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily on April 5 and April 6 to repair the overpass. If the weather changes significantly, and the work is canceled, MoDOT will release updated information as soon as it is available.MoDOT advises drivers to take Route 94 to Route 364 as a detour for the closure. Traffic will be able to access Chesterfield Airport Road and re-enter the interstate from Long Road or from Boone's Crossing. Drivers can expect extended delays to access the interstate from these routes.
Crews will also close up to two lanes at a time on westbound I-64/Route 40 from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. on April 5 and April 6 to complete repairs to the overpass over the westbound lanes.

Hairball did you ever find your missing spring? i kept looking but never came acrossed it.

hairba11
04-09-2008, 06:42 AM
he was up by the dam standing on one of the big rock chunks, the rock shifted, he went down on his back into some water with the rock on top of his leg and was trapped.

we were all down on the spillway by the culverts under the highway and didn't hear anything.

The new guy with the metal jeep (doug? sons Dillan and Dexter? all of them with D's anyway) was the only one in ear shot, and managed to heave the rock up enough for Hawk to get his leg out from under it.

Hawk said he was ok, but I was making sure. I know he left about a half hour later.

Of course if my back had been soaked, I'd have more fun getting a hot shower and dry clothes than hanging around driving RC's with my wet underwear riding me.

never did find the spring. I just slapped a whole new WK shock and spring on.

Sorry guys, guess I should have posted something.

Everything except one rib is fine. When I landed on my back there was a rock (bout the size of a golf) between my back and the concrete. Didn't feel any thing til Tuesday, had it x-rayed and sure enough, broke one rib.

Just can't take a deep breath or reach for any thing over my head with the left arm.

The bad part is I don't remember the guys name that moved the rock so I could get my leg out of the hole it was in, sure glad he was there.

Did re-learn a lesson; "never go to a place like that alone". If I had gone there by myself wonder how long it would have been before someone would have found me???????

Take care,
Hawk

well, I managed to get the blue cage txt "legal" with some pannels. I re routed the wiring, moved the r/x to teh other side and put it in a water resistant box (thanks nacho) everything looks neat and tucked away so it won't hang up, and the new hood will keep the motor from getting rashed in a rollover. I also put in a batery tray to keep the lipo safe from impact and pointy things.

I made a plug that would allow me to hook two batteries together to get 4s lipo power on it. and everything was good till I plugged into the esc. I heard a boiling noise and smoke started coming out of the lipos. OOPS. Now I have it running on the battery I bought for it. a 3s 5000mAh. that should last a few hours.

the little tuber got new wheels, and about 6 oz. of airsoft bb's in the fronts. it also got new sponsorship logos.

I glued the wheel back together on the willy's. that thing has been a champ.

I have also added limit chains to the axles. during one of the tumbles down a spillway, one of the shack shafts pulled out of the shock and made a mess. now it will take a little more effort to rip one apart.

Now that everything is fixed and ready. I'm headed out of town for 2 weeks.

at least I won't have to fix stuff when I get back.

I just went by checkered flag, THEY LISTENED TO ME,lol.

They are starting to stock things for the crawlers. They have all the good tires, the Losi Claws, Proline: Badlands, Moabs, Hammers, and Flat Irons. I also know they are working on getting us the 2/3a Cells for axle mounted packs. Now If I can just get them off Venom Packs and onto better and cheaper packs, it'd all be good. THey already have the WK parts, conversion kit and all that, AX10 they are working on parts and hop ups for.

AND LAST THING, I will know for sure tomorrow, but i know those guys well, AND THEY ARE GOING TO SPONSOR GSRC. Not a ton, but like at Jeff's B-day, donate things for prizes and stuff like that. I have used every hobby shop in the STL area and the only 2 worth going to are Checkered Flag and Mark Twain. I have to say I like checkered flag better because the crew there is a bit more social and seem to take the time to be more personalized with their customers.

2. stretch it into a 14'r to give me 2 14'rs to spank jeff's bronco with.

3. slap the clod axles under something different in a hairba11 way

I either need narrow tlt axles running 1.5" mini-t tires, or to go stupid with it.

will it be an XC/CC challenge?

Lake 35, great terrain, don't have to get wet, furthest away (from me)
Simpson, Fair terrain, haven't been there since it flooded in march
Cliff Cave, Good terrain, july comp is there, have to plan on getting wet (the blue cage lives again! just had to dry out for about a week)

I haven't been anywhere else. JB park?

august isn't looking good for near me, the kids haven't been tearing up the woods on 4-wheelers since gas hit $4 a gallon and mom and dad quit footing the bill so everything is overgrown.

If JEFF wants to come, I'll let him borrow a rig, but I will give him crap about it

Simpson is out, too much water so spillway is going to be out, thus cutting off a lot of where we can run.

Lake 35, almost same distance for me but I am happy to drive it,lol.

Cliff cave, well nough said there, love that place.

JB Park, not enough there to make a good day outta it, at least to me

We got Creve Couer Park Too.

WE NEED TO DO SOME SCOUTING CAUSE THERE HAS TO BE MORE AROUND HERE.

If your place s out and creve couer is big enough for everyone, then we can hold august there maybe.

hairba11
06-21-2008, 07:40 AM
now you give me the slash, and I'll buy 5 of whatever 1.9" tires you want

why is ungluing the stompers out of the question?

shoe-goo pulls off, and CA/superglue, you just have to heat up to 200*F to break the bonds.

I have a hot air gun I used (before it was buried in my storage locker)
other guys weight them and boil them.
some use the oven, but it is stinky.
maybe a black cast iron dutch oven on a sunny day for a few hours?

sniper
06-21-2008, 07:53 AM
WOW 200 deg. wont that melt the plastic you wont have to worry about getting them off the rims they'll melt off!

Nacho
06-21-2008, 08:20 AM
The rims they were on b4 these, i tried oven and boiling..WARPED..so i bought these wheels that are glued on now from Max..I really didnt want to take the chance of ruining more wheels.:-(

I might just sell these to get some crushers:?: I think i like them better anyway,I would have got in on the trail doctor deal if i knew i was going to get a new set of wheels

Mav-1981
06-21-2008, 09:45 AM
Just a side note, 200deg WONT melt plastic, can start to soften it if left on a metal rack or sheet, so use aluminum foil. (smelly oven method). Boiling can warp and nacho said, but usually I am pretty lucky and dont have that issue. I have the new wheels coming monday and going to have to get the slingers off the ford, but I really dont care about the HPI wheels anyways.

hairba11
09-17-2008, 09:19 PM
let me know what you want on the defender and I can knock it out.
I figure heads, tails, side markers as a minimum.
I think you were aiming for a little more on the old school and hardcore side.
looks like the rear has two markers top and bottom on each corner. looks like there may be a separate tail light.
I can ad that as a brake light maybe.
and put in reverse lights.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/5d/Land_Rover_Defender_110_rear_q.jpg

in the front, any idea what the front bumper will look like? any lights on the roll bar?

looks like there are fog and marker lights at top and bottom of the corners like in the rear, plus a side marker.

now looking at the rear, there are the two small red lights on top and bottom, then a separate tail light. one red, and one white on different sides, on of the other defender photos I looked at had the same thing.

were there two trucks missing lenses, or is one of them supposed to be white?
which one? is it reverse?

all I know about land rovers, is that a couple of british guys took a wwII jeep, and limey'd it up. then it grew from there. now rappers and soccer moms drive them.
