is the dremel 400 series xpr a good tool to use to cut chassis plates?
what attachment would you use?

A rotary tool will work to cut aluminum (I just used one to cut steel using the reinforced cut-off wheel), and case modders have been using them for years, but you'll get better results with a band saw, hack saw, coping saw, scroll saw, etc.

Kind of hard to get nice, even cuts with a cut-off wheel. Sure, you can do it, but you'll find yourself spending a good bit of time filing the edges so they don't look like a rabid badger gnawed the chassis out for you.

yeah this is a piece I just cut out tonight using a cutoff wheel and a drill press w/hole saw for center....

it does the job, but takes a little more time and still looks like a horses' rear

man do i need a mill

Ive had pretty good results with a dremel.... Ive made aluminum motor mounts that dont look too shabby, and dremels are also excellent so many other things (im not saying band saws, table saws etc. arent but some come with a hefty price) and the dremel 400 XPR is only 69.99.... dremel also has a mini saw attachment

alum will be just fine for a chassis ;-)
