Big props to Mayhem for pulling through on a close deadline to get me my wheels. These wheels went together super smooth and look awesome.

Very nice! Hope you like it.

Hopefully I can finish the wiring tonight and get a little testing in before our comp this weekend. From driving yours and Austins I have no doubt I am gonna like it.

Looks good Jason. Seems like we are all moving over to Berg's.

What kind of steering setup is that? What did you use to mount to the servo horn, or is the servo even mounted (I can't see). Looks a little familiar. I like it!!

2 stock upper links, then they both attach to the servo with one screw. I used the stock rod ends, and only 1 ball between them. It seems to work well. I think this is the same way Kamikaze has his setup.

I see, so you just have one rod end on top of the other with the ball between them attached to the horn. Interesting how the stock uppers are the perfect length. Nice, should work pretty well. I was reading that this setup could be an issue though if the front axle is clocked. I wonder if there is a way to make this work with it clocked. I really need to open my Berg and work on it to answer my own questions huh.

that is why this is the best thing in my box, the drill is 300 rpm with a very easy to regeulate triger, not on or off kind. the hexs you can get stand or metric

Testing isn't going well.

1. 1-5995TG servo $120
2. 2-985mg servos $140

I haven't even gotten 1 pack though it yet. I cannot figure out why the servos keep dying. With the power off everything moves freely, no binding. Double checked the BEC and it is putting out a solid 6volts.

Just put in an order to overnight a JR8711, that's the servo I wanted in there anyways, but I was just trying to use what I had on hand.

Servos were getting super hot and letting the smoke out.

I dug through some boxes in the garage and found several trashed 645mg's and between them I was able to piece 1 good one back together. I then changed the steering from the 2 tierod setup to a traditional tierod/draglink setup and was able to run a whole battery pack through it without the servo even getting warm.

Even though it felt smooth the servos obviously didn't like the 2 tierod setup.

good to know...
i tried 2 tie rods before on a tlt and had that problem...
i noticed a buddy of mine on his maxx based rig was killing alot servos with a dual tie rod also..:?:

I wonder if it's how you have the links tightened to the servo arm. Meaning does it allow the link ends to move any on the bolt used to mount to the horn, to prevent binding and/or allow any flex there might be.
I've been running a similar setup for months now only using a dual swivel ball link with no issues (as seen in BonusLine's Berg thread http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1223835&postcount=36). Another member of my club is also now running the same setup, with no issues. If the link ends are tightened down so much as to not allow movement, the servo will not like it due to the binding and lack of flex. The swivel link allows for the movement so I guess that's why I have no issues.

I wonder how Kamikazes setup is doing?

Mine works flawlessly. I haven't had any servo issues as of yet.

When you get a chance, can you provide a close-up picture or two of how you have the link ends mounted to the horn. Is it like Jason did it? Thanks.

Kamikaze
06-18-2008, 04:17 PM
Here's how mine is. There is a conical washer at the horn (thanks Joe), and the bolt runs out of thread before it bottoms the washer out. Also there is a stock ball on te frontend. I had to grind the passenger side drag link down to clear the servo horn at full lock. You can see it in one pic. And a short video. Hope this helps. Also one link is the stock drag link, the other is an upper link. They aren't the same lenght.

Tested some more today. All I had for steering is the worn out 645, not anywhere near the power of the 8711 in my other rig. I overnighted one for this rig though.

I was able to pull off lines with this today that I have never been able to with any of my other crawlers.

Carnage for today, 1 rear tire, 1 front tire, 1 inner axle shaft.

Well, since I have 2 of these kits I am gonna rob the parts from the other one to get me through this weekend.

TCS didn't show them in stock, but Amain did so I ordered them from those guys.

I think the knuckle screw came out and it caused the shaft to bind with the outer. When I picked it up the top knuckle screw was also out.

I could see that.

I think the problem with cutting the sidewalls is just going to be a on going issue. I ordered a extra pair of tires just so i could replace the one front that i cut after each comp.

Inners are different lengths, and neither match up to AX-10 lengths. AX-10 shafts can be easily modified to match the short side shafts though.

The Colorado crew got robbed this weekend by the Turd Bergler!

We had 2 full comps, 1 on saturday and 1 on sunday, I was able to bring home the win at BOTH events.

I let a whole bunch of people drive the rig after the comps, everyone was super surprised with how well it works, I was almost afraid I wasn't gonna get it back from a few of them.

I plan on snapping a bunch more pics for this thread later this week.
