Please post here as we are trying to break free from the VF name and relation.
DNA is starting fresh with much more backing and capabilities. Don and myself (Solomon) are working countless hours to get back on track. Our shop hours are from 0700-1730 monday-thursday to help our employees cut the gas bill. Don and I rarely stop working and work well beyond these hours to help get back on track.
Please know that we value ALL of our customers large and small. All pm's and e-mails will be tracked and answered, but please understand that production is our number one priority second only to you the customer's.
Thanks to all for the support and the great patients that ALL have shown..
Thanks again,
Solomon"thumbsup"

Finally got my hands on a DIG today...thank you TCS! Just installed it on my tranny and everything went very smooth other than one little problem. The included screws to attach the servo mount are too long. The one closest to the tranny hits the case preventing the DIG from pulling up tight against the tranny. Took a bit to figure that one out at 3AM

The dig is together but waiting for servo. Thinking I can come up with a 5 cent screw easy enough...no need to send another. My post was just customer feedback that I thought may be usefull to you and to others that may run into this very small problem.
Speaking of servos....are there other options out there other than the hitec 225MG :?: I've never really had much luck with Hitec stuff in the past.
Thanks

I've had issues with the 225 in the past, too. I'm currently using a Hitec HS-85mg. As far as I'm concerned they are the best small servo made. I had one on my last home made dig that lasted 9 months. I smoked a 225 last week, pulled it off, replaced it with the 85 (with custom adapter), and no more problems. JR also makes some nice mini servos, but they tend to be spendy.
Don, how are you coming on those "Cinco" wheels with TLT offset :).

got my dig in last week. looks good, but i had a few issues:
1. some written instructions would be nice, kinda hard to run up and down the stairs to the comp to make sure its goin ok
2. the 1mm(i think) allen wrench for the set screws is hard to come by. i had to buy a big kit of loose wrenches from craftsman
3.the "self lube" bushing on the shift rod is sticky as hell. maybe it will get better with some wear, but for now i had to put a dab of grease on it.
testing to come when my servo and stretcher get here

I am sorry to hear that those where issues for you. Your local hobby shop should sell the wrench by itself or in pack of three. The instructions could have been printed, and a little grease is not bad for the inside and for the bushing. Hope all is well now. Thanks for the opinion/suggestions.

Something i have found to work on the bushings is furniture polish, just spray some at the shaft (or both shafts) & it lets it slide easy & does not attract dirt. Works well on the drive shafts as well.

I have been running one of the black cased digs for several weeks now. It is working very nicely even under full throttle operation.
However, I noticed that the drive COG is starting to wear on the edge that recieves the abuse when reengaging.

followed full instructions on web site. have endpoints set so i cant push shift shaft in any farther but the servo is not humming. greased all contact surfaces and the grove for the shift fork. i previously had a problem with turning the DS around the pinion, that was remedeid with a new, longer setscrew. now when climbing a vertical surface, say a wall, the rear skips and doesnt push forward for a couple revolutions. its not constant, only with a good load on the drive train. i spent a good hour playing with my end points today tweaking, checking and testing. gotta pull the horn off tomorrow to make 100% sure it isnt stripped. then im gonna pull the dig off and inspect

or if you have room you could try to chassis mount the servo. kinda like i did with this build. i have the 225 mounted in that spot and could move some stuff around to fit a larger one if needed. granted it's not the slingshot but an idea.

Mounted this way, you can also eliminate the standoff allowing more of a straight shot from the servo linkage to the shift fork. "thumbsup"

PS. I've had my dig unit from when it first came out, with a whole lot of bashing and 6 comps on it. I've never had a single problem and I've also never had a 225 servo fry on me. Thanks for that great product. "thumbsup"

For those who wonder about the pin polishing required on some of the first batches of dig units and how that applies now. It is not necessary any more and hasn't been for some time now. We changed how we were pressing the pins and tweaked the hole size in the dig outdrive to get optimal smoothness while maintaining proper movement and engagement.

Don
No polishing required here."thumbsup"

followed full instructions on web site. have endpoints set so i cant push shift shaft in any farther but the servo is not humming. greased all contact surfaces and the grove for the shift fork. i previously had a problem with turning the DS around the pinion, that was remedeid with a new, longer setscrew. now when climbing a vertical surface, say a wall, the rear skips and doesnt push forward for a couple revolutions. its not constant, only with a good load on the drive train. i spent a good hour playing with my end points today tweaking, checking and testing. gotta pull the horn off tomorrow to make 100% sure it isnt stripped. then im gonna pull the dig off and inspect
alright, got the dig off finally. the cog on the trans output is rounded off and the outside corners are bent out. the dig cog on the input side is also slightly rounded. i believe it is the skipping that that caused the servo to burn out, the extra pressure as it popped over. pics on the way

I've been having issues with my new dig also, bought thru TCS (black DNA dig).
I have one battery pack thru mine and fried a servo.
My EPAs are perfect.
It fried the servo because the dumb Du-bro collar is nickel plated brass. As the linkage is forced back and forth the threads chew up and the linkage becomes loose. Once the linkage is loose it could easily bind.
I also had to polish the shift rail, it had marks in it, looked like vice-grip marks.
At this point I start pulling this stuff apart to see what I could do to build rigidity in the shift rail assembly. I have powdered aluminum inside the case.
The drive dog is doing the same thing as previous posts here. You see in the pics above how one leg of the cross is polished? And the others have a little polish on one side and the other of the cross?
This is because the bore is not square with the drive face.
I powered up the motor with the drive dog off, the DNA supplied primary rear output spins true. Installed the drive dog, locked on or not, it runs out. Locked the set screw and checked with an indicator, almost .020" run out at the face's furthest edge.
Is this how it's engineered?
No sarcasm in this question, I could understand if it was engineered this way as to work as a skip-tooth engagement design, but I don't think it's the best idea for this particular genre of rc car.
If it's not engineered this way your Q&A guy has dropped the ball, or he feels the production sequences eliminate this error, such as drill, face, turn, bore and part off. Then drive profiles in second op.
So here's my question, how is the bore not square with the drive face?
My secondary output is also chewed up a bit because the anodizing on the shift fork couldn't handle the heat, even though it was greased. It raised a burr on the OD of the output's diameter, not a big deal but still causes shavings to float around the case.
I couldn't check your website for further info on the dig because I don't have or want flash on my linux box. Is there anyway of reaching your site without flash?

1.Let me ask you how you would have made this? Also did you use lock tight?
2.There is not away to look at the website that I know of on your linux box.
3.These parts mar made on a mill. The second op. does face to thickness
4.This is almost a press fit with not more than +.003 -.000
5. You failed to state what your intention is, or what you would like to do to fix this problem.
Please let us know. As we will correct what ever the issue is. Also both side are faced to prevent this issue. .020 out is hard to do with +.003 tolerance. Again I ask what you are looking for?

1. I could only answer this question knowing my machine capabilities. I do not have CNC mills in my shop but I do have CNC lathes with C axis capabilities, even though I wouldn't use the C axis.
From bar stock in CNC lathe;
a. Feed stock
b. Drill undersize
c. Face and Turn
d. Bore
e. Part off
This ensures bore is square to faces unless the machine is toast or tools have the wrong clearance.
Second op'ing the drive profiles would be simple for your CNC mills. For me I need to set up an Haas index head on a manual mill. As long as my collet is machined properly my part will cut proper.
1a. Yes, blue loctite.
2. Sometimes sites have alt urls for folks who don't have flash.
3. So you're saying the thru hole or bore is cut in a different procedure than the faces?
That's what I'm saying too, infact I'm saying there happens to be a big deviation between procedures. So much so that the output hole in the drive dog is not square with the faces.
4. Agreed, the hole tolerance is good on size.
5. I asked what I thought was a simple question, "how is the bore not square with the face?"
Here's my problem, if you don't know why the part is made wrong, how could you fix it?
If you tell me, "new parts are in the mail", how do I know the part is better than the one you're replacing?
I'm not expecting to hear trade secrets or production shortcuts, I'd like to hear "we had a bad batch that wasn't caught by the inspector and have fixed the problem".
I am trying to be rational, I'm not mad or trying to start a intraweb fued. I'm just trying to find answers to a $80 investment that's new and not working properly.
"5. You failed to state what your intention is, or what you would like to do to fix this problem."
My intention is to have a good working dig, how will you help me?

That is my point. We did not have a "Batch" of bad parts. At any rate I did not say we are sending you parts. The part is made in 2 op's. Faced machined, bored, then turned and faced to size in the same fixture.
Again I ask what are you looking for if YOU are not sure any replacement parts would be correct? PM me if you would or Don for further answers.... I'm Don, I will personally make sure you get fixed up and that your questions are answered to your satisfaction tomorrow when I get to the shop. The reason Solomon is confused about what exactly you want is your description is very long to tell us you have a bad drive dog. If you could just email a pic to don@dna-rc.com I will get you fixed up. The other part of the confusion is you assume an entire batch ended up this way yet you are the first person to have this problem from well over 2,000 units sold. Every manufactured product in the world has some small percentage that some how makes it past QC to the public, no matter how hard you try to avoid it. What we pride ourselves on is not being perfect, as that is an impossibility, instead we strive to make sure you are happy in the end. If a phone call will make it easier to discuss, feel free to leave a number in your email and I will call you tomorrow to avoid any long distance fees on your part. As for how we manufacture the drive dogs, we do all the tooth side machine work in one operation, profile, teeth, hole, bore. Following that it flips to be faced to size and then goes into a fixture to drill and tap the set screw hole.
Thanks and I hope this helps "thumbsup"

Guys,
I'm working on a rig for a TXRCRCA buddy and it's one of the early VF units. Apparently the outdrive is not true b/c the brass pin doesn't spin true nor does the face of the cog. The teeth of the cog are now rounding off ... so it won't stay in 4wd. The teeth on the middle piece look OK as to the teeth in the rear of the unit.
So what do we need to do to get him a newer outdrive and cog? While I'm at it, I'd like to order a spare set for myself.
Thanks"thumbsup"

Hey guys been long time fan of your slingshot chassis since it came out. I was gonna order one then but got occupied with my full size crawler. Now that I'm getting ready for some small crawling I wanna order one. Only thing is I like allot of gear and when it first came out I had brought up that I'd love it if the chassis could clear a 93T gear or more. I know Don at the time said ya it would be easy to make one a few thou wider to fit the gear I was wondering if that is at all still possible? I'm gonna run Poulson diffs and a 7t puller with your motor plate and dig. So if I could get a chassis wider that would be awesome if not I guess I'll take what I can get. I"ll order all of it at once so we can make shipping easier other wise I'll order from who ever will sell me one. If you could pm me with an answer I'd really appreciate it as I'm trying to get all the little bits and pieces together for the build. Have a good day guys!

I just finished putting my dig together. It seems like there is a little resistance when spinning the spur gear when the dig is engaged. I took it back apart and made sure the drives were centered on the gear they are completelty even. I dont think the brass pin is completely straight. well see how it goes. It spins more freely when in 4wd.. any suggestions?
I was looking in hitecs site and saw an alternative to the hs-225mg servo you suggest. the hs-5245mg looks like it has a little more power than the225 76.37oz in @ 6v. and its digital. you think its a good alternative? worth the almost double price tag?
JeepinDoug
09-19-2008, 09:48 AM
The prefix 5 in 5245 determines the servo as a digital. That's fine to use but digital servos are always looking for the signal and correcting, that makes it a little tougher on the servo. If the linkage binds the servo is working on correcting it's position which will burn it up as heat builds. The inexpensive quality servos seem to work best for the dig, my Hitecs are $13 each and IIRC they have 55oz at 6v, at that price I carry spares.
The brass rail pin in mine was bent also, just push it around until the fork moves freely.

Ok guys, please go to www.dna-rc.com (http://www.dna-rc.com) and check out the dig instructions linked on the home page. Aaron at www.finishlinegd.com (http://www.finishlinegd.com) spent some time reformatting the dig instructions and I think they are a definite improvement. Take a browse and kick me some feedback on what you all think.
Sorry it took so long and thanks for being so patient!

MOA Slingshot. It is for use with axles that have motors directly mounted to them.....i.e., Bullys, Bergs, Clods, HR, etc.
I just recently sent an email to the yahoo email you had listed just purchsed one of your brand new DIGs for my ax10 and was wondering if you guys had any suggestions on mounting the servo, since I am running a Bender chassis and can not use the holes privided on the trani. Thank you, and keep up the great product have not used mine yet but have used my boys and it was love at first rear wheel lock :D:D.

Just spoke to Solomon Nieves great customer service from DNA very happy customer there sending me out a new set of the Steal internal's at no cost. You guys have a customer 4 life great job and thank you.
Any word on when the new servo mount plate for the DIG will be up for sale, saw you guys talking about it on the live cast at the midwest comp, but there were not any real close ups of it and was wondering how and were would it mount on a SWX chassis, cause as you know there is no space on there, and will it mount to the stock holes on the DIG?
Thank you."thumbsup"

Hey guys,
I was wondering if there were any updates to the mini slingshot leaf springs? Any ideas as to when you might start selling these? Also is there any video of them in action? I purchased the dix unit for my AX10 tranny. Out of the box it worked great, I have a perfect angle on the servo with no issues there. But after a couple months occasionaly the dig won't unlock as easy as it did, and I am fining alot of play in the bushing around the rear output shaft along with the bushing around the shift rail.. Is this something that can be easily replaced as I just love the unit..

Solomon is a very busy guy,I just got a reply that he's back so I'm sure he had lots of issues to deal with when he got back.I will assure you he isn't happy about your wheel issue and will get back to you.I bet he's having all their wheels checked so you don't or anyone else get wheels with the same problem. You should have but this in their feedback post,I bet he doesn't have time to read all the posts in DNA area's. You have not posted in the the customer service thread . 12 Holes? send ME an e-mail to solomon@dna-rc.com with pictures and we will get you taken care of. I did have 1 message left on Thursday evening from a 480 area code about some berg stalkers. Was that it? If so I have not had a chance to call you back. These are still being worked on. The original ones Don did up were to thick (I think) and didn't allow for enough flex. So Jason sanded them thinner to get the flex where it needed to be. Some newly machined leaves are being made and should be shipped this week to test the new thickness.
I think these will be a big hit when they go into production, as they will be way cheaper than buying an after market shock set.

I'm still waiting on the new thicknesses. I found what gives it a lot and we went with that then a set that is a tad thicker. The two different sizes should allow for a lot of adjust ability. You can even control the flex amount with the upper link placement as well. So hopefully the new leafs will be sent soon so I can get the results back to all of you that are interested.

Can you get the bushings for the rear output/shift rail seperately? Mine has been flawless up until about a month ago when I noticed a ton of side to side play on the rear output(which was causing the shift shaft to also have alot of side to side play). It still worked but would bind up easier when the rear was loaded up. Tore it down and nothing internal looked bad.

Since this is not a final release they are packaged with what the LHS wants.
The final release will be sent with upper and lower links. link plates, skid, and hardware. we have not decided on motor plate yet. They will be black or white for now.
