Here are a few shots of Patches. The chassis and side plates you see here is not the ones for the conversion (top secret). But if you look close you'll see what the plans are. The canti rods are prolly not gonna make it on the final truck (too long). Not bad tranny clearance though. I am still mulling a savage shock setup but it hasn't materialized in my head yet. The skid plate will be smooth with the bottom of the side plates, in fact you won't see it from the side at all. There are only a few more things to finish and it'll start to come together (ie. drill pinions, finish machining tranny mounts, "mudcow" steering and Proline to get with the program for the FJ-40 body)

Oh, the 4-link rods are camo so your not supposed to see them. lol Another thing that needs attention.

I know there will be questions so here is the scoop on the 4link rods. Easton XX75 arrows size 2219, very stout sh*t. Arrows were cheap, ends were $3.50/doz.

I apologize for the delay. I recently moved and started a new job so my time has been consumed with other things.

I have addressed the height issue. When the pics were taken I hadn't settled on a ride height. Now it has 4" and change under the CTR rather than soda can.

As stated above I have been busy. Since the last time I posted I aquired all of the electrics and a few other small parts. I compromised on the pinion gear situation and purchased Savage pinions. I'm on the fence as to whether or not I'll use them, they don't mesh as nicely as I would like. I still need to get the LC body and paint it but my current living situation doesn't help the painting aspect, so that's on hold for now.

One thing I have noticed is don't mix servos that have vastly different speeds. I purchased one of the 175 XTM servos and it is terribly slow compared to the Hitec 605. For now I'm going to run it until I get everything set up but I do plan to have a matching set of servos in the future. I will keep you all updated with any progress.

Just wanted to stop by and let you all know that Patches is operational. I was finally able to get some free time to finish the drivetrain. So far it work well but as always there is room for improvement. I will try and post a couple pics later in the week.

Good to hear, I was begining to think it was gone for good. Are you still in NC ? If so let me know if you ever want to meet up and do some crawling now that Patches is working. Just went down to King yesterday and the rest of what I needed to finish my crawler. Looking forward to the pics.

Nope, not gone. I relocated from FL to NY so all projects were put on hold during the move.

Here are some pics of Patches so far. Still a project but functional. There are a few things that need to be addressed now but I haven't had the time, body, rear servo, taller tires.

It is still a beta version. MGT tires and an FJ-40 body are the next items to come.

Again, it is setup for testing. The rec pack will eventually mount where the left side motor used to be. I am considering going with a gear reduction unit but for now I want to work out mor important things.

Here is one of the Maxx sliders. I used a #41 solid carbide bit to drill the holes for the maxx pin. It's a very tight fit once installed but its better that way. Turns out the gears are only case hardened, once you get through the outside regular bits will work. The yoke was punched out to 5/16" for the OEM Xfactor pinion. So far everything is good with no signs of breakage in sight.

Oh, for those that doubted about the aluminum arrow shafts, don't. They have worked great and are too hard to bend with a truck this small.

looks good...what was the 1st motor you had in it and why switch to the MM motor?

The first motor was an old Twister stock motor. Those of you into the hobby in the 80' might recall that one. At any rate I was only using it for fitment reasons, I had no intention of using it.

Now that I want to add a reduction unit I'll have to pick up a RR Mag Mayhem.

All in all I'm pretty happy with it. I need bigger tires, the Cruiser body, rear servo reinstalled and I'll be where I want to be for now.
