Gil's Cliff Climber --- Project Stretch

You might remember my cliff climber from this thread:

I was getting her dialed in pretty good, but it was still missing something. It seemed a bit top heavy on steep climbs. At first I thought I could just relocate the receiver and esc to a lower position to lower the overall CG. That didn't seem to do much, so I decided to go one step further by stretching the overall wheelbase by two inches. I wanted to use the same links and shocks, so I had to make my own chassis out of aluminum. I just cut out a simple chassis design on some thin aluminum and then traced the stock chassis mounting holes onto the new chassis and then moved the holes out 1 inch from center on both sides. I cut the bottom stock linkage mount in half and used the two ends of the battery tray on the top. I tried it out a few places around the house and it seems to work fine. I'll give it the full shakedown this sunday on the big rocks at the local state park. Wish me luck.

Wow, what a difference! This thing climbs like a monkey now. I was able to go up rocks that I never dreamed of before. I just wish the tires were a little bit softer. I also tried Flat Irons and Hammers on Proline Eight Shooters, but they didn't do as well as the stock tires. I'll try to get some video as soon as get a little help. It's too hard to drive and shoot video at the same time.

I know it's hard to believe, but it's true. I think its because they are slightly taller tires, and they had more weight in the wheels. It might have been a little too much for the 380 motors.

the stock one arnt to bad but i like 1.9 for this truck is alil under powered the way it is .

dont thik so as a mini they have to run in the 2.2 class

Mine is mainly a winter Couch Climber.

I have experimented with stock, Moabs, 1/10 buggy, and stamdium truck spikes.
I think smaller tires are better on this guy. I would do 1.9's, but do not have tires or rims that size, mainly 2.2.
Right now I have stadium truck spikes (M3) on Axial beadlocks, minimal foam (1/2" thick around center) 3oz of lead stickons. I'd like to try some M3 step-pins.

Versus a smaller tooth pinion on the rear, I am considering leaving the stadium truck spikes on the front, and running a shorter buggy spike on the rear. Should have the same effect for clod stall.

Considering carving some indoor rocks from 4' x 8' x2" Styrene insulation sheets. Cut, stack, glue, slight carve, primer paint, two strips of vecro on two sides. Velcro to hold stacked rocks together.
