Got Rocks?
08-11-2005, 01:49 PM
Post pics of your nylint 1:6 Jeeps and 1:6 Scorpions
EDIT:
Message from the Mods:
This thread is a pictures only thread. It is a gallery so that people coming in can see what can be done to the Nylint 1:6 crawlers, and to show off your work. If you have questions about someone's truck in here, PM them or look for their buildup thread elsewhere in the 1:6 forum. I want to keep this area free of clutter. If you want to see other examples of clean galleries, check out the clod or small scale section. Also, if you have updated pictures of your truck, simply edit your post instead of creating a new one. Thanks!

heres some "poser" driveway shots.
We've got about 30 minutes on film and I'll get that linked here soon. These things will crawl pretty much anywhere you point them. Lots o fun.
The only mods I made (if you can call them that) are:
- painted roll bar flat black - but after a few rollovers the blue shows thru.
- removed the nerf-bars from along the bottom of the rockerpanels
- removed the front and rear diff gaurds... they eat up alot of clearance if left on.
I may try to relocate the coilovers upper mounting points or remove a few wraps of the coils to soften the springs a little in order to get better flex - but left stock it works great as you can see. I backed the jeep up onto that tire on its own power.
And the black RC jeep in the one photo belongs to my nephew. He got it as ToysrUs about a month ago for $50.

Here are a few posers of mine. Nothing much done to it at this point other than removing the skid plates and step tubes and adding a Mudinyeri Offroad decal! :)

Edit: LOL It looks like we Rubicon owners have a penchant for these little rigs! How does your nephew's RC rig compare to the Nylint?
Edit 2: A few more pics in more "natural" surroundings.

Here is one of the ones I bought and painted for a friend today. The paint os krylon fusion sating black. the roll bar and sliders are krylon fusion burgundy. I have another one with burgundy body, black sliders and grey roll cage...because I ran out of flippin black and I am in the middle of the wyoming wilderness stuck on a gas drilling rig...

Here is mine, as of about an hour ago...still in the operating room, just taking a dinner break to let my fingers rest. Veteran of crawling, but newbie to r.c. Much harder to work on these things than the real ones, esp. with clumbsy fingers . Cut and bobbed tub, stretched w.b. upgraded to o-ring belts, switched the rear shocks to the front, and cut the new rears (coil and shafts) for more travel...still have to cut a bit more out. Rollcage and skid plates are in the works this week...I fried the electronics putting the chips back in. I hope to be back up and gittin' it as soon as I can get a new chassis sent out.

It's stock other than custom skid plates. I can't wait to try some of the other mods discussed on this forum.

still waiting for my upgraded chasis, so I did a funked up repair with steel strap. The soft top is working really nice, no more paint scratches when I roll over!
here is my janky fix. It's ugly, but it'll do untill I get the updated version. Whycouldn't these have been made of metal to start with?

Just got my 1:6 the other day.
Mods include, but not seen yet
-stickers removed
-belt mod to front axle
-reversed tires
http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/291358/fullsize/1.6%20scale%20crawler%20002.jpg
I want to keep this one simple. I wheeled it pretty damn good today and think it really only needs a tummy tuck and some axle skids and rocker skids, and some tire cutting.
The rear axle will stop moving under a hard load. Is this the belt slipping?

Someone got some sand in there vagina... y'know if we don't get that out you could become a walking time bomb.
Seriously, all I said to you was that you could post more then 1 pic per post... I see like 15 new posts to this thread, so I'm thinkin sweet!!! Quite a few new nylints, well it was just one.
Then I see another user posting how he did all his mods which is cool and all but this is not that thread.
To keep this thread on topic...
Just about done painting, but I got it to the point where I can drive my Scorpion crawler aound with the body on ;-)

I converted my RC Crawler to a Bronco by using the body off of a WalMart sale Special. The original Jeep body was butchered to provide support for the new body. The lights operate on an independent battery salvaged from the WalMart Bronco. The three lights on the front are Ram RC lights mounted on a stick made from an old bath towel bar. I am also working on wheel adapters for Kong Swamper tires.
Thanks for the help and advice on posting pictures. Someday when I get better at using the bulliten board, I will learn how to properly reply to mail.

One is mine the other is for my 2 boys (probably gonna get the younger one his own too).
My mods so far are TT, Extended WB, Relocated the shocks, cut & reversed tires. I want to cut and trim the axles but have not got that far yet. And will be painting and doing some body work soon.
This is the newly built rock garden the wife built for us in the backyard to keep us out of her flower bed. (hey they had nice ledges).

Here is my 1:6 just finished putting it back together after paint. I took off the skid plates, rock sliders, windshield and wipers. Next thing to do is a tummy tuck and to get more lift/flex out of this thing.

Here's mine. I didn't expect the paint to some out good at all, or I would have cleaned up the cuts better. Mostly stock, inboard rear springs, rear ext wheelbase, tummy tuck.

A friend talked me into buying one. Now look what happened after finding this web site... in less than 48 hours;
removed and replaced stickers, Paint, extended wheel base, front body lift, inboarded shocks front and rear, removed skid plates, narrowed raised tires, and wheels. Works very well.

It's got flipped and grooved tires, paint, spare, relocated rear shocks, extended front-end, skid plates and other stuff. I've beat the piss outta this thing and everything has held up but the belts are starting to slip a little, probably from driving up and down the creek in my yard. I don't think you can beat these for $49.00.;-)

Pretty much stock. I had to get rid of those nasty Gators colors so I taped up the roll cage. I got carried away with the tape and put on racing stripes too. I'm sure they'll start peeling off right away but it was a fun experiment.

sup guys kind of a newbie to crawling, into Drifting actually... I got my nylint a few months ago and i have broken and fixed quite a few things... a friend and I have done our best to correct most of the common breaks, I look forward to gaining info from this site.. im not trying to dump tons of money into this thing, what why mine is somewhat "ghetto" but hey it works ...(for a good amount of time till i break it again lol..) but its a fun thing to do when i have nothen else to do!!...
as of now I have
Reversed tires
Placed JB weld on the susp arms to prevent the front axle from jumping and messing up the hubs!!
Lift Kit : )
used metal wiring as a dampening system
cut the plastic things that prevent the susp arms from moving front and back
i want to do a triangular mount in the rear tha would be cool well here are some pics

I also painted the Wheels and did a new sorta camo paint job on the thing for the h3ll of it id like to do a desert camo on it if i ever get time/drive to do somethin well enjoy tell me what you think...

I'm new to the board but I've had the nylint for a while now. The first pic is bone stock. The second two pics is after most of the mods I will do, all of which I did today, most after I found this forum.
Today I cut the shocks and shortened the pistons. I cut 4 rings off the springs. I moved the front and rear shocks inward at the top. I extended the rear, and cut all 4 fenders. I also reversed and siped all the tires. She now wears a nice charcoal and black paint job.
In the next to last pic you can see I'm occasionally dropping a shock, I think I will make some limiting straps. I would like to do a tummy tuck I just don't know if I want to dig into the electronics.
The ramp is 30 degrees and I built two of them. I take it to the Badlands in Attica, IN when I go wheeling in my SOA '76 FJ40.
The last pic is of my 40 series at the badlands on the 30 degree RTI ramp.

Here are the ones I bought and painted for myself and a friend today. The paint is krylon fusion satin black. the roll bar and sliders are krylon fusion burgundy. I have another one with burgundy body, black sliders and grey roll cage...because I ran out of flippin black and I am in the middle of the wyoming wilderness stuck on a gas drilling rig...

Today i finally went crawling for my first time ever. I know this isnt the best thing to crawl with and the only reason i dont have a better crawler is because there is no place to crawl in Huntington Beach. All stock, the only thing i did was cut 3 rings off the bottom of the spring. I plan to do more as it is still a little bouncy. On to the pictures! My computer is acting weird so only 4 of the 13 i took uploaded. More tomorrow!

I was bored while I was waiting for the battery to charge..so I painted it. After driving for a bit I also cut coils, much better now. Anyways, here are some pics.

ZR and Misty, both employed by TAK Engineering, wanted to take the afternoon off and take "Cheap Thrill" out for a ride....
Misty wanted to drive, so ZR rode "Winch Wench."
Misty dropped into the pit and checked the flex on a small rock:

ZR was holding the rollbar as Misty crept over the terrain:

Misty shows off for the camera:

Actually drove it out of this...some damage to the paint on the drivers side, but hey...
http://home.triad.rr.com/ag4rz/images/wheeling7.jpg
One last shot before heading home. ZR says we gotta get the rock lights on this thing quick!

All pictures were driven into/out of. I continue to be impressed with this little rig...
The Park I wheel at is 5 mins. from the house, and literally has 3/4 of a mile of rock like this to play on...all surrounding a nice small lake and walking track...If anyone in Winston Salem or the triad area of NC is interested in crawling together, let me know!!!!

well, Bighead and i made a course in his backyard the a week or so ago. Bighead's rear axle took a crap on him, so his day was cut a bit short. here's the few pics i got of the virgin run... there will be more in the near future...

no no - i meant with the nylint jeep -
specs on it are:
removed springs from shocks - i did have them completely off but with the larger tires the body was actually sitting on the tires, so i had to find a way to raise it back up a little.
trimmed the crap out of the wheelwells, trimmed the front bumper to prevent front wheels from rubbing when turning.
removed winshield and rock sliders and headlights
painted 3m undercoating on the body, its holding up really well, high gloss black on the rest, flakes off pretty easily.
i have a stick pack that i bungee across the seat for when i feel like running around in high on the street.
next on the list is to silicone the lower louvers on the axle to keep water out.
cut some more on the tires to get them a little softer
i have had 0 problems with it since i got it. only been through like 3-4 packs. they last a good 45 minutes - less now that the bigger tires are on. they work very well though. the added clearance helps alot on the steep ledges, its still really stable off camber.

Hey everybody, Here are some pics of mine. I have already moved the rear shocks in. Those of you that have moved the front shocks in, do your tires rub at full stuff? I have also noticed that alot of people are removing there rock sliders, Mine have kept me from tearing the paint off my tub. The next thing I want to do is add some lites. I have been amazed at what this thing will do. Sorry for the poser pics, But its all i had on my computer. So, tell me what ya-all think, lol.

well, this had been my first venture into the small scale rockcrawling. i've had experience with the 1:1 stuff. this is just as much fun though, especially since i don't have a trail rig right now :| .
anyway, i've done a few mods.... removed the springs, did the bic pen mod w/limiting straps instead of shocks, comp cut the back of the body. thats about it for now, i'd like to do some electronics mods, maybe proportional throttle and steering...anyway, heres some pics. and yes, i know the comp cut is a little rough right now, i haven't had a chance to clean it up yet :flipoff:

I finally broke down and layed some paint today. The body is Model Master Champagne Gold Metalic, the seats, cage, toneau, sliders, suspension links and underside of the body are Krylon semi flat black. The gold didn't really lay as good as it could have, so some of the paint is kinda boogered up.

Sorry it's late and I'm tired so this will be a cut-n-paste post..........;-)
Well I got bored today while I was waiting for another project to dry. So I ripped apart the old Nylint, I had held off because I wanted to show a friend of mine the Scorpion in it's stock form, he is an old 4x4er and I figured with his 4 year olds B-Day coming the scorpion was something he needed to see.
Well I had every intention of going all out with this one, but I really like the stock Nylint, something about overcoming obstacles with a so called Toy. So I decided to do a few things that anyone could do to improve performance. a tutorial coming ASAP.
I may still go crazy with this one or I may buy another one just to see how far I can take it, not sure yet, but I do know this is not the last Nylint this household will own.
Halfway through this project I decided to paint it, it rained here so Mowing was out.
Well the paint finally dried and I got her back together so you will have to wait until tomorrow for outdoor pics.

Hope the pics work?
Been having camera problems for the past few weeks, but I am finally able to post pictures again. I figured I would post some pics of my Nylint Scorpion as I build it up. Keep in mind that I don't want to do anything serious to this truck....I just want to keep it running and gain a little bit of performance.
First, I cut the springs to lower it some, and allow full flex. Next, I modified the shocks to gain a tiny bit more travel. After those mods, I just drove it alot, and did my best not to break it. After evalauating its performance, I decided the next thing to do would be to deal with the rear axle, specifically how it would get hung up on the sharp forward edge. My solution....Take a Publix member keychain card and make a nice transition from the skid to the axle. I roughed up the axle some with a file, and then used Goop to attach the card. This makes a nice slick ramp between the center skidplate and the axlehousing. The mod seems to help in preventing hangups, and protects the wire to the rear motor.
Then, today I was kinda bored, so I started scavenging for a new body for it.
This is what I came up with, for now.
http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/2974/nylint14il.jpg
I found un unopened lego monster truck kit in the box of old toys and junk in the basement, so I built the body and attached it to the chassis. Instant fullsize Chevy.

soaked the wheels in fantastik to remove the chrome. drilled out 4 of the 8 holes for the tires to give more. painted them semi flat black and hit the bolt heads with a silver paint marker. painted the body semi flat black to match. these things are a lot of fun! i don't plan on doing any suspension mods. just drive the crap out of it until it breaks and return it to wal mart.
oh crap, i forgot to buy a barbie doll to put in the driver's seat! :flipoff:

How did you fasten them to the chassis?
I kept mine pretty low so i don't use limiting straps and the wheel travel goes RIGHT inside the wheel well. Never had a shock pull apart yet.

I dove tailed mine. My first I Comp cut it but the tires would still rub on the body and limit the fix and tire the gears up also. So when I dove tailed it. when the axle travels up the shock mounts acts as a bump stop agaisnt the body. Works perfect.
First time comp cut. Notice the tires hitting.

Sorry the pic is side ways, but notice the shock mount hit the tub . The tire isn't hitting the body at all.

All I did was cut the tub the way I whated it. Made a little plate with four holes and drilled though the rear of the tub and bolted. Used an hobby knife and a lighter to cut and mod the inner brackets. And once I paint the tub you won't even notice the bolts the back all that much. I was going the glue it, but I figured this would be way stronger.

Here is where i will put pics and such of my nylint instead of creating a new thread everytime : )
I've done some modifications:
9" wheelbase
Reversed Rear Axle
Cut Coils
Tummy Tuck (Great Mod!)
BB's in Tires (Great Mod!)
Comp Cut Rear End
This is my first RC Crawler. I've learned how to solder with it : )
I'm seriously thinking of making a scale RC Crawler later on, after I get tired of this wal mart crawler! I'm located in San Diego.:flipoff:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/Turboduck01/nylint.jpg
so far its been painted, tires reversed, stretched the rear 1 1/4 inches, cut the back for clearance, cut front fenders away, cut 5 springs in the back and removed them in the front, and i removed the stupid boner bar.sorry about the size if the pic

Chopped rear, 11" wheelbase, springs removed, and some other stuff. I'd like to get the springs back on there, relocate the shocks, and get some more ground clearance sometime...
Your wheelbase isn't much different than my Scorpion's. I'm running a 10.5" wheelbase with the control arms flipped and 3.5 coils cut along with a tummy tuck (highly recommended  ), 4ws and all aftermarket electronics. It's pretty much unstoppable, except for the darned leading edge of the rear axle!! With running 4ws, I can't turn the rear end around, so I'm hosed until I can find slightly larger tires to run (other than 2.2s).

First three pics are of a ledge that stock I couldn't get up without utilizing the tree root to the right of the Jeep. Now, it just hops right up with a little wheel crank to the right. I think this is mainly due to the axle reverse and cut tires.

:-P Hi, everyone I just finished up my Nylint crawler, you can check it out on page 4 at www.intvisuals.com/twisted.htm (http://www.intvisuals.com/twisted.htm) It has a XRS esc , a Airtronics Blazer radio, rear axle flip, 1/2 inch tummy tuck, shimed axles, narrow ford body, custom made arm pins to give the front a 1/2 inch on the wheel base and the back also for a total of 1 inch. It also has Traxxas 2.2 wheels(narrowed) with Losi tires witch are just about twice as wide and about 3/4 inch taller then stock, this is a little easier on the gears. The truck is only 1and1/2 ozs heavier then stock. The total price is about $230.00 . Thank you for looking and I also have parts for sale in the for sale ads.:-P p.s the radio is only $42.00 and duel steering rates, servo reversing, th/st trims and look at how small the servo is.

Hey everyone, Been a while since i have been on the board. Nothing has changed to much on my truck. Shaved some fender wells for clearence. Bout it. Still have a ton of parts sitting around waiting to be modded. I have a rear axle shaved almost just like camoTJ (awesome job by the way) and a front end trimmed up with a servo relocated. I'll have to post some pics sometime soon. Here are a couple wheelin pics and a vid from the other day.

Well, I got my Nylint about a month ago, and as I was walking out the door of Walmart, I told myself that I am not going to mod this thing. Well, as you can see that didn't happen. Heres what I have done so far.
1. real electronics including duratrax esc5000, futaba radio, and traxxas servo
2. cut tires
3. reversed tires
4. new shocks
5. extension
6. Tlt-1 body
This weekend I plan on reversing the rear axle, giving it a tummy tuck, and painting the suspension arms. This thing crawls very good. It is going to be even better after this weekend. Can't wait. I will soon be posting some video.
Here are some pics. enjoy

This is my badass cat that was my spotter for the day. He randomly showed up on my door step one day. He is addicted to kibbles n bits like a herion addict is to herion. He's an awesome mouse and chipmunk slayer, and in his free time he spots for the rock crawl my nylint does. :flipoff: His name is cat, because I cannot think of a name for him.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v155/leadfoot/2005_1113_150844AA.jpg
I took the wrong line off this rock climb and wound up like this. A tap in reverse and it was on all fours. Just before that, I hit it full throttle in low range and one of the rocks kicked back causing it to flip backwards on the cage, onto the wheels again. It sucked that I didn't have a video camera.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v155/leadfoot/2005_1113_152121AA.jpg
Here it is climbing 13 steps. It actually wound up like this because I have to angle it pretty severly (as the big turd diff hits the ledge before tires hit) on the step above it, it rolled down one set and sat exactly how it is in the pic.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v155/leadfoot/2005_1113_153724AA.jpg
All i gotta do is stretch the WB on the rear of the 1:6 and it will match my 104" yj!

Hi all new member but I've been lurking for a while.
Thanks to everyone for the tips and ideas on modifications.
The is what I've done to mine:
- Upgraded to real Electronics: Futaba Servo, Airtronics Rx, Airtronics ES-01 ESC
- Converted stock pack to flat Sixer (2500 Mah one in the works).
- Radiator removed for clearance
- Front shocks relocated
- Front tub modofied for servo clearance
- Servo mount, tummy tuck plate, and rear shock mounts created out of ABS
- Mini On/Off switch mounted behind servo tub cutout
- Rear axle flipped
- New links created for rear and front. Front ones mounted behind servo horn.
I've had a blast with this thing and my kids love it also. Amazing piece of engineering.
Here are some pics let me know what you think.

Took some pictures of my first time playing with the scorpion today. Had lots of fun, and it gave me some much needed insight on what I am gonna have to do to this thing to make it crawl good. First thing is the tires have to be grooved because they dont grab worth a crap on the limestone and the wet dirt. I want to keep the budget under $100 total for it. Feel free to bash away at my newbie-ness :flipoff:

I couldn't resist, at first I contemplated saving $100 and just getting the smaller one, but I figured I have enough small stuff between my Tamiya Pajero and Tamiya F150. Plus I really wasn't looking towards having to do modifications right out of the box to get proportional steering and throttle. This will hold me off till spring so I'm not going through withdrawal to drive my real 1:1's.
I charged the battery overnight for 18 hours, 2 days ago. I've been running it on and off for several hours and it has no battery loss. How long do these things run for? My only complaint is that it isn't the updated chassis, but after owning a Tamiya Mountaineer, I know what buttons to push before I end up breaking stuff. So hopefully I won't break anything.
Anyway, here are some pictures from a confined part of my basement and a cheesy video I made on my first charge.

Eventually I plan to repaint the body w/ real automotive 2004 Ford Sonic Blue basecoat/clearcoat paint w/ a black interior and black rollbar.
Right now, all I have been working on (until my dremel died) is replacing the seats w/ ones that are more detailed and have seatbelts (thank the toy 1:6 New Bright Beetle I bought several years ago) I have to cut about half an inch off the bottoms of the seats to give them the correct height and angle so that they look good while inside.

the last 15 pics are my current setup. in boarded rear springs, 10.25" wheelbase, mounted the front springs to the back of the grill( still working on the right width between the upper mounts on the front springs. cut up the body and the roll-cage my plastic welding skillz need some work, but it is holding together. now i just need a new paint job to hide my choppy work.
enjoy my pics, feedback and criticisms are welcome.

sorry man, those are all the pics i have right now. i could try and get some more sometime soon when the weathers better
and i built this so long ago its hard to remember any details other than finding a few pics of 1:1 buggys like BTF and poison spyder chassis. trying to make it out of 1/4 steel rod, then figuring out how to get the axles under it. i didnt take any measurements or be super precise with the bending, just eyeballed everything.

Here's a couple pics of my 1/6 Special Edition Scorpion including one of it being towed on my custom trailer(not finished yet) and modified gecko chassied clodbuster. Mods on the nylint include:
stretched one screw on each end
Cut control arms stops
Suspension droop straps
Removed springs for more wheel travel compression/great help with COG
Working winch out of 1/18 jeep rear axle
Added sticky wheel weights to both axles
Two working wire tow cables
I'd like to do a tummy tuck, but i don't want the battery up in the body or anything because i like the full interior. That and i can't a F&F battery anywhere.

I have had this for about 7-9 months now, but never really posted pics. Here is my nylint...and a list of mods:
Narrowed body/Custom Cage
Custom body mounts
Cut tires
longer wheelbase mod
Other than the body, and some little odds and ends, it is stock.
Here are some pics!
