Which tires are better? Losi, Axial or Hammers?
What shock oil should I start with for a 2.2 crawler?
Is a dig worth it, and does it prevent me from competing in a specific class?
I've heard people say not to use digital servos, but I'm sponsored by JR and have several 9100T's lying around. What's wrong with digital servos, or is it just less torquey digitals that I don't want to use?
Help a brother out.

I use hammer tires but I've heard great things about losi's. I'm sure you want hear a whole lot of nice things about the stock axial lizard tires. I think there ok. For shock oil I use 50 wt. but its all preference. I also use a Jr Servo and I love it but its not digital, so I dont know what to tell you good or bad on that. Dig is worth every penny if set-up right.

Tire preference is a lot of personal choice. It also depends on the terrain that you're trying to crawl over. I have had good luck with the Losi Rock Claws. There has been an awful lot of positive feedback about the Panther Cougars lately too.

So, I broke my first part today on The Plex indoor course.
Not a c-hub, or a spindle. or even a shock or something...
But my Delrin bottom skid plate!
Pretty awesome. I'm definately getting an aluminum one now.
I can't wait for Tuesday to do some more.

Pull the December 2008 issue of RC Car and see the Tire test, Scott Hughes, Pete Bach (Dirk Digler) and myself did.
Yep there is no magic pill, however based on my preferences and well over a couple month of analytical tire testing I will be going with Pro-Line Badlands. Again just personal preference.
At least you can see where each excelled and was weak.
Dig is worth it if you are going to compete... at least according to everyone I have every talked with. I have had more than a few people that have said that the Nationals course was impossible without dig and Gerame and Tom both indicated that they were at a disadvantage without dig at Crawlapoloza . I have the older VF/DNA dig unit which is very good, but lots of guys still compete without them.

For the white rock on the outdoor course, I've found the flatiron's work very well.
But for a good, all-around tire you just can't go wrong with Losi Claws...

I don't actually know. I just looked underneath and it was split. I'm ordering aluminum ones for the store and for myself.

If a person was to go with the Pro-Line Flat Iron tires, which compound would be best; M2 or M3??

Alex, do you have any TLT axle parts or upgrades at the Plex? Specifically the knuckles in aluminum?

Just my observation, but you probably won't be able to hang with the big dogs when side hilling with the flat irons. Especially the stuff Gerame's sick mind will be thinking up. On huge flat rocks (think Colorado) they are great, but the Hammers are going to be a better option for you.

Thanks, good to know. I'll check out the Hammers instead. Do they also come in different compounds? What is your impression of how they compare to the Losi or Panther tires?
sniders1975

vishal I use hammers with m2 compound there a little stiffer, but it will help with side hilling & they dont fold under as easy. The claws are also a great choice!

What about the Proline Chisel Tires... those things look better than the hammers.

Dont really know alot about them no one has them yet & they are 5.5 tall so they will rub on your body!!

The hammers are OK, but there are better.
Go with either the:
Hot Bodies Rovers - In medium compound
Proline Chisels - in G8 (don't even mess with proline tires unless they are G8)
Panther Cougars
Body clearance should be the least of your worries, bodies are easy to trim and replace. Link and shock clearance is what often times needs adjusted.

I'd drive up sometime for that. It'll be good to get some practice in. Thanks to Jesse, my tlt is coming along and getting setup better. I just need to find some shorter springs, better tires, and maybe make a dig system and I should be completely set!

Jesse has been a big help to me as well. If you're going to be in the comp, I have a set of Losi claws on proline eight shooters that are weighted and have mem. foams you can use. 9.5oz fronts, 7oz rears. OR you could use the "Eritex" wheels with Panthers I bought from Jesse, and pimp his stuff for the event. I'll be there with me girl to watch, she loves her crawler and wants to see a comp.
Just let me know.

Thanks for offering. I finally bought some Eritex wheels and have them on my crawler now. I'm going to give the tires I have now a try once we have the next gtg. If they don't do well compared to other setups then I'll definitely have to give some different tires a try.
Speaking of gtg's, we need to have another one when the weather is decent!

Got my dig installed and everything is good to go. The one thing that really sucks though is the dig case extends to far to the back to allow the use of the inside link mounts on my skid plate. That made me mad. I worked really hard on my truck to get the suspension just right and now I have to rethink it again. I think I'll have it all settled by the midwest champs.

Alex, try an 1/8" spacer under your trans case.

Yeah, I'm still thinking about raising the case higher, but I'm worried about the angle on the driveshaft. There is a little bit of room to move the case farther to the side. I'd have to drill new holes in the skid plate to do it.
I'm going to try it the way it is on Tuesday and see what happens. The dig is pretty friggin sweet though. My truck is officially loaded.

Alex i saw that dig yesterday, now i want one. LOL :flipoff: On tires i have the Hot bodies rovers and they very flexible even with stock foam. Only thing that is bad about them is the hieght of them, they are way taller than stock axial tires, but once they grip anything they work awesome."thumbsup"
