I havent tested them with mip's but, there shouldnt be any clearance issues. You should be able to trim the end of your knuckle arm and increase your steering withough worring about cutting into your axle as can happen with stock axles if you cut the knuckle and dont adjust your epa's

I realized one other thing. What do you use as a drag link? The stock one, or do you have to make one.

jetboat
10-17-2008, 04:04 PM
Best solution for the drag link is to use 2 dubro 4-40 rod ends connected by a piece of 4-40 threaded rod. Its about the simplest and most reliable way to make one. Although 1 tester did use the axial short drag link.

Something to note, the servo mount is designed to be used as a BTA mount or as a front mounted servo. Meaning that if you are worried about the BTA for some reason, you can always turn the servo around and still use the plate.

can I buy just the plate I already bought the ckrc one but want a 4 link. I guess I should first ask if the plate will work with the ckrc and I already cut my knuckles

jetboat
10-18-2008, 05:49 AM
I can sell the plate itself for $12 shipped but, although I see no reason it wont work it has not been tested with the CKRC parts. I will not warrenty it to work with anyone elses parts. Send a PM if you buy just the plate and include a note on your paypal.

very nice product, and congrats for being the first to the market with it!

can you give the approximate size of the LiPo pack? I'm still using 2/3A 4 cell saddle packs. I need to know how much room I'd have to work with to see if the batt cell packs could be rearranged to work on your mounting plate.

ALL kits order till right now will ship on Monday. Any kits ordered from this point will not ship until Wed/Thurs.

I only have 5 kits left in stock, I have already spoken to my suppliers and there will be a $2 per kit price increase after these kits are sold. I appologize for the price increase. It is due to the continuing rise in metal prices. The price of spacers has doubled and the price per piece has went up by $1 per part ($2 per kit). I am absorbing some of the price increase.

Cool, how about one for the TLT axles?

jetboat
10-19-2008, 12:28 PM
I might start looking at the tlts but, at current I dont see many at events.

I am working on a WK kit but its probably a month out. I had the most motivation on the ax10 as its the axle I have been running. That also made testing and r&d allot easier.

If you are running aluminum knuckles such as CKRC's you will need to flip the right side to the let and left to the right. This is actually even recommended for plastic knuckles also.

Since when are the knuckles side specific on the AX-10?

Axial Parts Tree AX8004 is two of the same parts, the RC4WD knuckles I use are the same side to side. The only knuckles I have that are side specific are my High Steer Knuckles and TLT knuckles.

Depends on what shocks you are running. A shock with either internal springs or droop shocks SHOULD fit. I used my 1.9 scaler in the dev of this kit, and it used rc4wd 100mm scale shocks mounted shaft side down in a verticle position. I cannot guarentee that it will work however. This is because I have not used an xtrail myself nor did any of my testers.

Been asking for pics for a while in pm's... yours is the only one with a problem that I havent been able to solve... all I can think is that you have something wierd with yours

miller
11-18-2008, 08:36 AM
Yah I had the same problem with mine. First I thought it was because I had rcp knuckles and c's so I put the stockers in. When the stockers went in the tierod would hit the upper link mount with the center part. My toe wasn't correct.

My guess is that you did all the testing with the hotracing knuckles and c's you have in the picture? They must not have the same holes as the stockers. I think it just needs a little more tweaking. Try it with stock plastic knuckles. I don't have pics cause I had a comp and pulled it all apart. The battery tray is great.

Edit..or maybe we just got a bad batch of tierods?

928darwin
11-18-2008, 09:28 AM
Yeah i installed it to and found that it gave me toe in, i did not want. So back to my stock steering link. Bad batch?

jetboat
11-18-2008, 09:30 AM
These were tested with CKRC, Rc4wd and stock Plastic. I can post pics of the stock plastic and CKRC pics are above. It was not tested with Hotracing.
I stress that this MUST be installed in the inside hole. If you install it on the outer hole it will cause toe issues.

I installed a kit from the 1st batch onto my comp rig and had absolutly no problems...

Anyone having install problems, please take pictures of the setup showing the problem and PM me. I will do what ever is needed to get it working for you.

That's probably what keeps the price down. I'm sure any issues will be worked out if there are any, could just be installer error :) The battery tray alone is great with the link mount holes.

You have HR knuckles and C's in the pict that the BTA is on? You know I'm not trying to dick you around on this man? I sent picts but here are some more.....Pict showing it's in the right "Hole" and a pict of the BTA steering link hitting and rubbing the pumpkin on the axle......Like I said, I lost a lot of steering throw and it rub's bad! So much that when me and JIA drove it at Stone Mt. in Atlanta it took a 13ft circle to do a full 360! IMO the design need to be tweaked and trimed. I think you are going to have more and more people with the same prob like you are starting to see now.....Oh, and I tried stock knuckles, HR, Integy, and CKRC's.....same thing on all of them.....I see no way to fix it other than trimming the link in the middle so it clears the axle, down side is it will make the link weak in the middle doing that?

jetboat
11-19-2008, 05:09 AM
Kenny,
That appears to be at full lock only. I am running the xact same knuckles and c's as you and I dont get they rub. When I purchased my knuckles they were sold as CKRC not as hot racing and came in CKRC packaging hence I knew them only as CKRC.

I see 4 solutions for you:
1: Send the tie rod back and I will modify it on the mill so that it clearances without weakening it.

2: I can send you the taller standoffs which should fix the issue.

Below suggestions are not recommended but they are still options

3: Use a dremel with a sanding wheel to clearance it yourself (I would prefer you do option #1 or #2 though)

4: Clearance the axle housing itself (Still prefer you do option #1 or #2)

As for the bad turning radius, if you trim off the end of the knuckle arm you should be able to turn way tighter but, you will need to make sure you dont over adjust your epa's.

I will post up pictures of the BTA installed on stock knuckles and some side shots to show proper clocking.

As for the finish, batch #2 servo mounts will have a brushed finish instead of the raw finish. However, as stated above, having these polished would increase the price greatly. At this point I am barely breaking even (actually in the red right now), I only sell these to help the comunity not to make money.

Edit: I have decided to delay shipment of batch 2 while I make a couple modifications so that noone else runs into the rubbing that Kenny has experienced.

Is there a way that you can fit using AX10-RCP Knuckles and C's?

As far as I know, all of the C's/Knuckles are designed as dropin replacements for the stock ax10 setup. With this in mind, any manufactures parts SHOULD work the same.

jetboat
11-19-2008, 04:31 PM
After looking at Kenny's pictures I decided to modify my knuckles so that it would demand more clearnace from the tierod... After removing the material from my knuckles the tires could turn considerably more and I did encounter the same rubbing. The solution was to mill do the part of the tie rod that was rubbing. I feel that this should fix the problem in ALL cases and will NOT effect strength, as plenty of material remains.

I will offer a FREE EXCHANGE to anyone who purchased a kit from Batch #1 (Batch #2 will be modified before shipping) If you have a tie rod from Batch #1 please PM me and I will send you my address, simply place the tierod in a regular envelope (I find it best to tape it to the inside of the envelope) and drop it in the mail with 1 stamp on it (Include your address on a card with the part). As soon as I receive the tierod I will mail a replacement the same day.

jetboat

I am not brushing the tierods, only the servo plate (when I tried brushing the tierods I almost took off my finger). I Have been planning on modifing your tie rod since it is exactly the same as batch #2. I can exchange it if you want. Unfortunatly due to cost I cannot just replace it, I have to exchange/fix it.

I had the same problem i took the dremal to it and ground about 1/8 off and it didnt hit anymore. What i didn't like was how loose i had to run the steering to keep the spacers from locking down on the knuckles. I guess the setup is ok its just not for me.

BUT I did manage to fix it well on the HR's doing some shaving on the Knuckles stem and the BTA as Kenny describes. Did also some countersinking of servo stand holes -- then it just works Great. I'll see if i can get time to try it out on the rocks over the week-end., Thanks again!

Personally I use nuts on mine versus counting on the threads in the arm. I tightened mine up until it was too tight to move then backed it up about 1/4 turn. It will still be really snug, move the wheels back and forth a couple times and it will free right up. You just have to get the aluminum to polish itself basically. I have been working on finding some kind of bushing to use but I havent found anything that will work at a low enough price.

Siggy, what kind of axle housing is that?... bling8)

They are Axial aluminum housing aftermarket parts with the rock catching edges rounded.

on the knuckles you should be able to just use the inner hole and not need to drill a new hole. However, there have been a couple cases of knuckles that dont seem to be standard.

Im not wanting to break up any more sets tto sell parts seperate.

I have been getting several emails/PM's about stock status...

I have 3 kits left in stock ready to ship.

After these are gone it will be 2-3 weeks before I will have more ready to ship.

There will be a version 3 once these sell, it will work just the same, just will be easier for me to finish once I get them from the cutter. My cost will go up but, there will be NO price increase.

Let me know when the new stock arrives as I will be buying another one and maybe two. Trying to get my grand sons indoctrinated into crawling.

The tierod has been redesigned slightly so that I dont have to machine them after they are cut. Thats the biggest change. Im looking at having them tumbled versus brushed also. I have some other changes I want to make but I have to wait to see how much they will cost before I do.

I'd like to get the V3 set. Will you post in this thread or make a new one when they are available?

Ill start an all new thread so that there is no confusion as to what you will be getting. I am crossing my fingers they show up before the weekend but, even if they do, the soonest they will start shipping is Monday.
There is enough of a redisgn on them that I want to test them before I send out any. "thumbsup"
