Figured it was about time to post up my Sniper again. It's been overhauled with some different gear and since the axles are now WK units, I figured I'd put back in this section where they started out ... a couple times. Some of the parts have been around in a couple of my builds. The chassis orginally started off in the 2.2 Scale section with Axial axles as my fun little action figure story Sniper (http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/showthread.php?t=114715) build. The WK axles started out in my Elvis (http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/showthread.php?t=83659&highlight=elvis), which is a nice little evolution starting with my link mounts. I traded it off to a friend of mine, who did a build (http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/showthread.php?t=106646), and ended up getting the axles back. I'm starting to lose my self so enough with the blah, blah, blah and onto the important stuff .. Miller Time

Chassis - Me
Axles - WK
Shocks - Traxxas in a droop config
Trans - Axial
Motor - 65T lathe for now
Battery - 3S Max Amp LiPo's
Steering - HiTec 645MG until it blows
Winch - HiTec 645MG
ESC - CC Sidewinder w/ CCBEC
SO the Sniper was a runner once but the original Axial axles just weren't wide enough for me. It took some WK axles and some All-T's to get the look exactly where I wanted. It didn't help that I eyeballed the tube measurements from some pics and it ended up an inch bigger all the way around. Gave me plenty of room for a styrene interior though.
So grafting in the axles ... easy. TCS's delrin Axial trans mount and some custom upper links, mounted right up to stock spec Scorpion chassis points.

Steering mount. I'll get to the winch later

and the rear lock out. Now you see, thats some beef. Too bad the tires don't work well on rocks. They work great on the dirt trails so far.

The trans sits just low enough I managed to pull off the interior space

Next up is the interior. It ain't finished obviously but I need some thing to do once the snow starts flying
This is main floor and transmission tunnel. It's glued together out of .03 styrene.

Made up some seats to velcro in

The dash is the least finished part and is held in by velcro from the cowl inducted hood bit

and now the hood that hides the LiPo

yup, Alum. channel with screws, sleeved with some 3/16 brakeline for rollers. I kinda ran out of room for the horizontals. Tow points got in the way.

So Jim when are you going to put the blown and injected 502 in the sniper (=27t or 35t on a 3s lipo). And if the predator drank that miller to himself you may want to make sure he's still alive. (in scale that beer was like a 55 gallon drum)

The glue is good old fashioned Testors Cement that you find everywhere. I tried using Tenax but with the size and amount of plastic I'm using the Testors works better for me.
Once I get the interior farther along the Predator will probably go in. I got to 'reconfigure' his legs to do it though.

No blown 572ci until it's gets a sprung suspension. I'll end up driving it like my Slash. The droop shocks wouldn't last 2 minutes, the chassis will easily but thats probaly all that would.
The Predator don't get hangovers no matter how much he drinks. He's the Chuck Norris of homicidal aliens.

I see I was just concerned......do they hold AA meetings for action figures?
Here's wut you need to solve all ur suspension issues http://rc4wdstore.com/product_info.php?cPath=57&products_id=824
I love my 110mm's!

You see, thats the problem with homicidal aliens like the Predator, who's gonna tell them they have a problem? Not me.
I figure I'll solve the shock issue the hard way like I always do. By spring thaw I'll be bored with the truck and will want a sprung suspension for some faster bashing. I'll be bored of the Sniper and I'll just make a new tube chassis for a sprung suspension. Thats what has happened with the last 20+ crawlers I've done. Recycle the drive lines and do new a new chassis. The next one will be smaller, whatever tube design I go with. I did just pick up the new Four Wheeler with the '09 Top Truck challenge. Naeger's Buggy and Kraatz's Warthog REALLY got my attention.

Here' some better detail on the winch set up. The winch spool isn't centered up on the fairlead. So to keep the line straight while coming on and off the spool, I put in a bit of cutting board. I drilled a hole for the cable thats straight onto the spool. The block itself is mounted to back of the fairlead. So no matter the angle out the front the cable spools neatly on the drum. There's no flex in system and cutting board don't really chafe the cable. The cable is 1/16 inch nylon 550 cord. I don't know what it's actualy lb rating is but the servo and the servo posts are the weakest link. The cord and the chassis mounts aren't going anywhere. Hidden underneath the velcro, the crossmembers are 1/2 x 1/8 steel brazed to to the tube work. It's only slightly overkill.

550 cord is the sh!t.
that's the same cord the bronco will be using once the fellas get into mounting the winch.
that rig is beastly, great job.

Thanks. When I first took it out, with the Axial axles, I was driving it off a 3-4 foot ledge onto grass. On it's freefall descent, it would flip in the air and land on it's roof. You could feel the impact through the ground damn near ten feet away. I started getting bored after about the 5th time and quit. The only damage was the paint. Every tube is as straight as the day I brazed it in.
