I was so intrigued by this rig that I just had to do it.
The idea of worm gear diffs made me take the leap.
Well, I picked it up at AB-C yesterday. First impression when I opened the box was good. Only disappointment is the wheel and tire selection. These will not be good for anything but bashing. They are a wheel with a real soft tire and no foams.

First thing I noticed is you better make sure you have gear grease, thread lock, etc. This kit does not supply these items. A good grease is very important being that wormgears are known to heat up with excessive running. I am using RC4WD's Monster Lube.

Instructions are very clear as Kyosho has always been good at.

So let's start with these axles... The gears are heavy metal...great tolerances...

The axles are set up pretty neat...the drive cup is enclosed in the axle case and then there is a dogbone that comes out to the stub axle...
http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q307/rckcrwlr_bucket/RC%20Items/RockForce/RockForceBuild001a.jpg
These dogbones are massive...look at the compared to TLT's

Both axles are build...these things are heavy and bulletproof...

Now comes the tranny or should I say the motor mount with a spur gear. To explain this, with the wormgear, all reduction is in the axles. This eliminates torque twist and also gives you the best drag brake around.
My first plan was to throw in a 35t warrior...they actually recommend a 24T. I figured, what the heck...and through in a 7T Puller... :wow:
http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q307/rckcrwlr_bucket/RC%20Items/RockForce/RockForceBuild007a.jpg
The chassis consists of the Tranny? and several plastic cross supports.

The driveshafts are an interesting design. They consist of two half shafts, a hex shaft and an aluminum sleeve. Great design.

Shocks are a nice set up. The fronts are shorter than the back for better function. The come with aluminum caps and plastic bodies...they do offer an aluminum body upgrade. I am running 30 w Oil in them...

The wheels and tires had to go...
I got my Mayhem Dbl Phattys with Rock Crusher tires and Kreepys. These things are heavy will be just add to the planted feeling...
Problem is that the RF has larger axles so I had to get the drillpress out and open them up...

Findings...
The Puller is definitely the way to go. It gives you all the torque and still wheel spin. I may try a 4s to see if I can get some more top end speed.
I will definitely need a softer tire. Actually may give the OEM tires a try with some foam in them. They are pretty soft.
Waiting on the dig set up. We're having a Test'n Tune this Saturday so I will know better then.
Need to get another body for comps though... :-(

Well the wheel/tire set up is terrible.
I needed a set of wheels with negative offset and was ready to order some when I remembered my DNA Stalkers.
They put the width at 10.75"...perfect.
Now what tire...I opted for M3 Hammers on the front and M2 Hammers on the back with ProLine Memory Foams.
I am thinking this is the combo...we will have to see...

i do not see stock or unaltered any where in that rule, it would be full original width just with a bend to make it wider. I dont see anything in that rule about making a body wider..
2.1.2.1 – Super & 2.2 Class body must be 3” minimum height on sides. No less than 12.5”
total length and full original width, and no less than 5” in the center. All bodies should
resemble its original form (Jeep bodies look like a Jeep)
is that one of the rules on the super secret set of rules??

Well...I got to run the RF today at the comp...
Only thing I changed this time around was I cinched the suspension so that the Panhard Arm was horizontal.
Sitting a little to low with the lack of wheel speed but other than that...I was very impressed with how well it was planted. The only place that stopped me was a breakover that highcentered...all of the sidehilling, verticals and manuvering was great. Hope to have the dig and HS gears by next run...

Having a nitro race background and some of the required paraphernalia necessary has been handy in crawling. This is the temp gun I use.
http://www.asturmodel.com/images/big/exergen.jpg
Infrequently, I will check my speedo, motor, battery and on the RF I initially checked the axles at the worm to make sure there wasn't heat buildup there. I would not recommend getting something that expensive, but there are some much cheaper ones out there.
This one is available from tempgun.com for under $25 (I think)

I dont think you will be able to reduce the temps enough. The voltage drop will have more of a detrimental effect than changing gearing...
Change the pinion first... I think that will help you a bunch!

Honestly, I don't think the 7T is the right motor. I am changing to the Novak 21.5 Brushless.

Well...here is what I am starting with...
http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii209/wpac-rc/Builds/RockForce%20Make%20Over/RFMakeover001.jpg
A Rock Force that is showing potential but needs some tuning...
Add an Xtreme Racing CF Chassis
Add a Custom Dezmoon BTA Steering assembly
Add Panther Cougar Tires
Add Novak Goat ESC with a 21.5 Motor
What do you get...
The RckFORCE!!!!
Rckcrwlr
04-02-2009, 04:40 PM
First is to introduce you to the new chassis...
Xtreme Racing Carbon Fiber Modified Chassis
I wanted to keep the integrity of the RF so when I saw this chassis, it was all for me.
Check out how the "fat" was removed from it...this is how Kyosho should have done it.
http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii209/wpac-rc/Builds/RockForce%20Make%20Over/RFMakeover004.jpg
Also notice how there is another row of holes for shock mounting above the OEM Chassis
http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii209/wpac-rc/Builds/RockForce%20Make%20Over/RFMakeover005.jpg

The stock RF sits at a 11.5" wheel base.
That needed to grow so off with the rear links and in come the Delrin...
Get the delrin 5/16" stock and measure it to size.
This stuff is slick so make sure you clamp it good...
http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii209/wpac-rc/Builds/RockForce%20Make%20Over/RFMakeover009.jpg
Drill the holes for the rod end allthread to go in. (sometimes you can get away will not tapping the hole)
http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii209/wpac-rc/Builds/RockForce%20Make%20Over/RFMakeover010.jpg
http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii209/wpac-rc/Builds/RockForce%20Make%20Over/RFMakeover013.jpg
I added a little more than 3/4" to the length of the lower links...
http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii209/wpac-rc/Builds/RockForce%20Make%20Over/RFMakeover007.jpg
Here are the upper rear links
http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii209/wpac-rc/Builds/RockForce%20Make%20Over/RFMakeover014.jpg
This resulted in modding the drive shaft so I cut one of my allen wrenches to get it to work. The fuel line will keep the hex shaft from pulling completely out of one side or the other...
http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii209/wpac-rc/Builds/RockForce%20Make%20Over/RFMakeover008.jpg
All put together and it is now sitting at just under 12.5"

The wheelbase is perfect now...running a longer rear will help with verticals. The chassis gives me more adjustments and also better geometry. The tires give more ground clearance and a softer compound.
