Have you ever made rings out of Delrin?

Mayhem Eng.

No. I don't think delrin would hold the bead as well as alum. Thats the reason I haven't tried. That and hanging on to it during the machining process.

Ok, I thought they might be good because when you scratch them they would not show as well and they would be lighter and maybe cheaper to make. But I don't know!

Ive got a set of delrin rings when the crawler store offered them for the axial 2.2's and havent pulled a bead yet!!

I haven't actually tried any delrin rings myself. Just thinking about it seemed like they would be weak. Delrin rings are not in my plans.

Delrin is not cheap, Black cost more then white, at least where I get it from. It's a little cheaper then alum. but not by much. The problem is I would have to handle it different then I do with alum. A different process and different fixturing then what I use now. Switching from alum. wheels to delrin wheels is just a few different tweaks in the program, remove all the M8's (coolant on) except for the tap and change the drill and tap from a roll tap to a cut tap, All the fixturing stays the same. So to switch over takes as long as it takes to change prog's.

Now I know!! And knowing is half the battle!!

Keep up the good work. "thumbsup"

I tried dying natural delrin once, It wasnt pretty. Maybe with the correct technique it would be doable.

well I have followed you all over and learned alot, built a berg to your specs and listened to 99.99% of what you have said, BUT on this one somebody has to answer WHY would i want to take off my expensive set of heavily weighted ball bearing rims and replace with a lighter plastic?? YOUR gonna have to prove this one!!!!!

There is times you need a light setup . Say in places where there is alot of holes to fall into . I have ran Delrin rear wheels for almost 8 months now . There has been times when I wanted a lighter front . I think the days of people showing up with 1 set of wheels/foam setup are few and far between . "thumbsup"
