So, I need to get a Rock Force because of the request for parts. I have little to no time to build the stock kit so I got my 9 year old to build it for me. A good way to work at home without the wife getting torqued and a great way to spend a little time with the boy.

Greyson waiting for me:lol:
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a353/ShyGecko/RD400/rockcourse001.jpg

He can see the box...
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a353/ShyGecko/RD400/rockcourse002.jpg

Had to cover the table. Don't want to piss mom off...
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a353/ShyGecko/RD400/rockcourse003.jpg

He actually read the instructions...
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a353/ShyGecko/RD400/rockcourse004.jpg

Paying attention to detail, he knew to build a "front" and a "rear"...
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a353/ShyGecko/RD400/rockcourse005.jpg

Checking to make sure we had the right part...
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a353/ShyGecko/RD400/rockcourse006.jpg

We got the axles done, but bedtime caught up with us.

More later"thumbsup"

I assumed they were. You could probably load the chassis side plates up in the mill and get 3 or 4 full sets of rock rings out of that huge contraption

Since I can't seem to get a response from Vanquish (email and PM for over 2 weeks) I'm looking for a new wheel vendor. Let us know when the wheels are ready and I'll pick up a set.

Enjoy the build! Then the teardown. Then the rebuild. Then...;-)

You could even go one step better and just put 17mm hexes in them. SUPER BEEF!8) Buggy hexes all around...yee haw!. Heck, with a wheel like that,I'd run them on my super.....

I thought about that but if at some point someone makes a CVD or some other upgraded axle that has a hex but no option for a pin set, the wheels would be worthless.

I would rather have a hex myself. That way if you have a wheel nut come loose, you don't destroy the wheel, only the hex. "thumbsup"

killjoyken

Are you thinking of making new 14/17mm hexes for it, or using existing hexes? The stock hex pin is .538" long and the slot on my 14mm Savage hex is .515". I think if you go with a 14mm hex there's not going to be much material left if you use stock pin. The Savage hex fits with the Savage pin but doesn't sit far enough down to touch the bearing so you'll end up with a lot of slop. If you're going to go through the trouble of using bigger hexes, my vote goes in for 17mm. "thumbsup"

I milled out some stock Axial hexes and cut down some pins and managed to narrow the track width another 1/2" overall without putting the Epic wheels into the knuckles. That narrowed my rear track width to just under 10.25" with Badlands. It helped reduce the turning circle tremendously.

That would be a must. You can hardly even see an Axial pin if it's sitting next to a Kyosho pin.

Cutting a 12mm hex down to work with 1:8 scale stuff, you ain't got much material left to hold the hex itself together. I've tried. It works, but I don't think it's durable enough for long term use. 14mm would be bare minimum I think,17mm being the best option honestly.

I'm pretty sure these wheels will be just as stout as his other wheels."thumbsup"

I posted some pics of the modded hexes in my thread. It's not a practical mod but works for now.

The front of my GC-1 is about 10.25" wide and the back is just over 9.25" wide. It's been working well for me which is why I'd like to get the RF as narrow as possible.

do you have a wheel that would give the truck about a 10" width cuz on my comp rig i run 10.5" outside tire to tire. so with about a 1/4" of tire sticking out each side of the wheel. if it helps i run ur comp heavies w/ the flat backside on my axial. and was just looking to get about the same width. if not ill use these w/ no complaint.

You cant get anymore offset with the stock axle, period. The back ring clears the knuckle by about .040".

It can go lock to lock and hits nothing....

Unless you went narrower, but now we are just getting ridiculous

Good to hear clearances aren't an issue. Have you tried them with a more "standard" tire (Hammer, claw, panther, ect) and checked clearances? I guess it doesn't even really matter, the stock chassis is too wide anyway so link locations could be pinched in anyway.

Anyway, "thumbsup"

These have .250" wider offset per wheel over my standard Rock Force wheels. You can see the different with the standards on the rear (right side of shot) and the wider offsets on the front (left side of shot).

Hope this helps,

those look better i might have to try a set with the .250 wider offset.
maybe i could get some with 3/8" offset and that i think would be perfect! especially since the wheel is only 1" wide.

Are these the same offset as the 1" Berg Comp Heavies?

Nope, bergs add another .100" width per wheel so .200" over all wider track width compared to the Rock Force wide offset wheels.

Berg offsets would get you darn close to what you are looking for.

Yes, and no. The Rock Force specific wheels have a hex pocket specially designed for the stock Rock Force hex and a larger diameter hole for the larger stub axle.

My other wheels will work, you will need to drill the center out and the wheel will not sit against the flange on the back of the hex.

Make sense???

Is the wider offset going to be generally available, or is this only a "Custom" thing?

Will you be running the wider set in aluminum?
