Alright guys, we need to find more spots to go crawling in this area. I've scoured the web and found tons of rocky places in Ohio. But further up north. Maybe some of you columbus guys might be able to check some out. There seems to be some spots in Lancaster and Hocking Hills. Here's some links, look through them and tell me if any of you guys are close enough to them to go check them out.

And that's just in Ohio. lol

Then there's Indiana and Kentucky. Don't know much of Indiana's landscape, but there's TONS of rocks in KY. I would think somewhere in the Cumberland area there are some excellent areas to crawl. I hope to be going on a 1:1 wheeling trip sometime in October to Livingston KY, so I'll scout out that area while I'm down there.

Doug, diddn't you go camping down in Cumberland? Anything down there?

Let's see what you guys got.

I've always wanted to go back to Nelson's Ledges with me truck.

But I'm curious about a spot in Indiana where the Indiana boys do their Indiana thang.

So, how far away is that Nelson Ledges place from you? It looks killer.

If i get time tomorrow, I was gonna go ride the bike and check out some areas. There are 3 decent sized parks around me.I'll take the camera if i find anything. but it all depends on if i get time cause i have furniture to move

Where are you going, and what time? I'm going to Gravelrama around noon.

There are a few creeks over by my place which look promising. You should stop by and we can check them out. There right along the road so no hiking.

I went to Cumberland lake a few weeks ago, lots of stuff there but you can't access most of it unless you have a boat.

*very crappy pic of possibly the best place to crawl that I saw on the entire trip*

It's actualy a boat ramp, and if you walk down the coast there's a really nice spot. I somehow mannaged not to bring my camera with me the first day!

I'd also like to check out Mammoth and Lost River Cave, they both offer walking trails. (Lost river is even in bowling green right off the main streach).

Yea, that place looks killer. Clarksville Indiana, 47129

I vote we go here next time. Looks like its roughly a 2hr drive from both Cincy and Indy. A little further for CORY up in Columbus, but he could meet up with us in Cincy.

What do you guys think?

Late October? Or late September?

old_dog
08-28-2005, 06:27 AM
Clarksville sounds good to me. It is all intersate highway for us to get there. Late Sept. might cause a problem for those people going to GR if they broke something but I am up for either month.

just going to about 4 parks near my area. have no idea what time. have to move furniture today.. but just got done moving some, so i may take off to one here shortly. I am not looking for creeks. getting sick and tired of all the water/mud crap

AdamF
08-28-2005, 08:02 AM
I hear ya on the creeks, but thats the only place where rocks exist around here. Unless somwhere has some man made stack of rocks put together, but I prefer natural terrain.

TwistedCreations
08-28-2005, 11:39 AM
who has rocks stacked somewhere :flipoff:besides, that small area kicked your trucks arse :flipoff: I have gotten ALOT more and ALOT bigger since you was here last ;-) I have a few that i had to take the trackloader to pick them up and put them in the truck, just ask doug- he has help[ed me pick them back up  .I know my truck has been hating me here lately. I really need to get one of those truck bed roll things. they came out a few years ago. they snap on your tailgate and it rolls out in yoru bed. then dump rocks or whatever in it and then just crank it out of the bed..but have no clue where to get one.. anywayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

just got back from Renschler park and there wasn't anything really up there.Just a big wide open creek area.Didn't look to bad and it was a wide creek. nice breeze blowing through and very little water until you got towards the bottom section.

I am gonna ride through Winton woods later on tonight probably and then hit Sharon woods if I have time or maybe tomorrow morning sometime. Then cruise Hueston woods and go check out the Brookeville area. I am on vacation this week, so i'll just make time to go cruise in between all this moving and crap between houses

TwistedCreations

owell, i didn't get out to winton woods. I ran into a guy i used to grow up with and he had a bike also. so we went cruising instead  This bike is taking over my RC time  but once i get everything done from the moving and renovations of moms house, I will have extra time and money to put back into RC's. it has just taken a backseat for right now

there are 2 creeks that run near my place but.....I am not in good with the neighbors (freaky rednecks) to get easy access to the creek and the hike it would take to get to the creeks from my place make the hike on our last get together seem like a leisurely stroll. NO KIDDING I have been thinking Sharon Woods would be nice but with all this recent water it'd be no exposed rocks. I have been looking around, there is a couple of places on the Little Miami that are nice and exposed for rocky terrain BUT all this rain is screwing things up. I will keep looking.

We talked about this a couple of months ago.....It would be an awesome place to crawl, but will the park service let us do it. We didn't think thay would, so it was never persued....I'd hate to drive and walk that far just to get ran out by the rangers...

If possible, can you talk to the park service and se if we would get ran out for it????

I've been there MANY times, and wouldn't wanna do all that walking for nothing!!!;-)

I will talk to the park service while I am there. I totally agree with you, I would hate to have everyone come out there just to be ran out. I'll see what I can do. :)

Future crawler (used to have a tmaxx2.5, now own a vmg),fellow buckeye here. I'm in Chillicothe and close to many great parks(Old Man's Cave, Great Seal Scioto Trails-just a few). Thinkin' of scopin'em out for my own sake, but now I see more reason's to do so. It would be great for such a large group to get together! I'm also lookin' fer some help on which rig(txt or clod) to get. What do most of you run? Anyway, if I can be of any assistance as far as locations choices please don't hesitate to email me at nme159@yahoo.com with your ?'s. By the way adam, who do you work for in cincy? I'm with Denier and I know our hq is in cincy. Just curious.

TwistedCreations

well cool.. let us know what ya find... only adam and cory run clods. the rest of us run shafties..

me and doug run maxxes, cory and kevin both have txt's and kris has a twin force/maxx/whatever it is and a TLT

EeePee
09-26-2005, 05:35 PM
Me being Cory - I ran the TXT for a while, which is definately fun, but ultimately limited, compared to what my Stick chassis Clod can do. I'd vote for the Clod. But there is some appeal to driving a TXT and struggling to make it up some stuff. But the back flips pissed me off after a while.

Sticking my stick on my stick - yeap, all the time.

Better than sticking my stick on a shaft, I think.

Franklin huh... Who are ya and do I know ya?

Yes TC, Franklin... my old stomping grounds. By ST73...

Ceasers Creek... well.. there's a bunch of trails for hiking and biking... and they have a rock quarry, BUT... its a protected area last I remember. They have fossil digs there alot. Not sure if they'd be allowing us to crawl there.
I don't know about any other places... the land around the lake is mainly forest, never seen many rocks.
I'm sure some of the trails deep in the woods may have some. Would be worth checking in to.

I was over at McCormicks Creek State Park near Spencer, IN. The creek bed offers some fun runs when the water is low. Didn't have a camera or much time, but was told there where even more "rocky areas" by a hiker at the far end of the park.
Also stopped by Cataract falls near Cloverdale. Not comp worthy per se, but fun for a small group.
