Couple questions about SCX

Hey guys, my scx will be here on Tuesday and it will be my very first crawler and first kit. Any tips, tricks, things to look out for since its my very first kit.

I have been on the fence about getting a scaler or a comp kit, but the live scx build forced me off the fence. (Now I have to figure out a way to get it in here without the wife asking questions....How do you guys handle this problem? lol)

Lastly, I believe I will go with the Tekin FXR esc, but cant decide between their 55t or 45t motor. What would you guys recommend for just general crawling/trailing etc? thanks alot

The tekin FX-R with the 55t motor is fine for just crawling around.

If you search around, you will find tips and tricks that have been done to other rigs that you can probably adapt to this one. Being it is so new and nobody has been able to tweak it out yet, it will take a little time for more ideas and tips to come up.

As for the wife, well buy now, ask forgivness later has worked for me so far "thumbsup" But your results may vary depending on various women factors......

Being that this is a scale rig, and the fact that the tires are so small. I would go with a fxr and a 35 turn motor. A ax-10 with a 55 turn motor will run about the same speed as the scx-10 with a 35 turn. Most people want more wheel speed on a scale rig anyway. I am running a novak crawler with a 55 turn and for gearing I am running a 31 tooth pinion and a 78 tooth spur gear. I still have plenty of torque and good wheel speed. I will post a video soon so you can see how it goes.

Hey thanks Zuke, thats sounds good. So I will still have enough torgue to do some general crawling/slow stuff if need be? I am so new to this its funny. Broke down and told the wife about it today,, im not in tooooo much trouble.... will be picking it up tomorrow... Thanks

I joust bought one and i will have it in a few day. Does the kit come with metal or plastic lock nuts ? and will i need 2 buy any grease or tread lock my supples r kinda old. I seen some one use lead rope on the rimes for wight i thought that it fit well in these rims does any one no were to find some. THANKS "thumbsup"

Any locking nuts on the kit are nylocks. Don't know about the lead but I would either try a welding store or mcmaster carr

I use the 20 dollar method to keep the wife happy ,
Does'nt matter what you bought ,when you bring it home and she ask's how much did that cost ,
No matter what it cost always tell her 20 bucks "thumbsup"

I have an integy 35T in my SCX and it has plenty of torque for general crawling and great wheel speed, I actually want a bit more wheel speed.
Ill be getting a warrior motor soon

I have the fx-r and its great but the 55t motor makes it a slow turd... I need to regear or go to a 35t... lots of fun though..

that is the best method.i had to bump this up and comment on it since im mostly a lurker here.anytime something rc related comes in for me i just say i got it for 3/4 the price it really was.

i always come up with some half baked scheme when getting something bigger, but as far as the upgrades go.....

A. put it on my account at the LHS

well take the build slow enjoy the buildand get it right the first time so you dont have any paoblems down the road but ita an axial so you will be happy with it and dont be afraid to make a few mods
