I am no longer accepting orders, this will be transitioned to another vendor soon

Tired of having your steering linkages hang up?
Want a better approach angle?
How would you like to mount your battery mounted on the axle?
Want front 4-link?

Introducing the redesign AX10 BTA steering kit. Now with a redesigned tie rod thats even stronger than before. Also, cooling slots have been added to help keep your servo from over heating in the middle of competition.

Made from 1/8" 6061 t6 Aluminum Now with a bead blasted look

$20 Shipped to your door (outside the lower 48 please PM first)
Paypal: (jshirley78@hotmail.com)

These have been tested with rc4wd,stock plastic axial, hot racing and Integy knuckles. You will be hard pressed to find a knuckle that it wont work with. (plastic knuckles are not recommended)

Update: Axial Aluminum knuckles are giving a mixed result. Some people have reported a loss in steering and a slight toe out condition. The problem appears to be "hit and miss" but, please be advised if you plan to use Axial Aluminum knuckles.

It is designed to be mounted in the inside hole on the knuckle. No mods are necessary but, by removing the material at the second hole, you will greatly increase the available steering.
The kit comes as shown in the picture, you will need to provide your own screws.

Nice product. Have you tried it with different shocks? I'm running Revo's and they're quite a bit larger in diameter. Not sure if the tierod would clear them or not.

Maxx Big Bores, ax10 stock, losi crawlers, rc4wd 90 and 100mm, WK. Those are the ones I have personally tested them with. I dont know of anyone that has used them with revo shocks. I have sold allot and have yet to have anyone tell me that the shocks hit, there is actually a decent amount of room between the maxx shocks and the tierod with the shocks mounted upside down. I would think worse case would be that you would need to run the shocks the "correct" direction.

I am interested but I would like to have a little more info. How does the aluminum work without rod ends? Do you just keep the bolts loose to prevent binding? Please post more pictures if possible.

The best part of no rod ends... no wear slop. I normally tighten my bolts all the way down, then looen it up 1/4 turn and I dont have a problem. I can post up pictures from every angle... What would you like to see?

jetboat
02-10-2009, 06:24 AM
I tried to take pictures from every angle of an install v3 BTA. As you can see, when installed properly there is not rubbing or toe issues. This is a random sample that I pulled to insure fit. This one is still in the "raw" state, having not been brushed.

If there is an angle that I missed, feel free to request it.

Ordered one of these through RPP; definitely excited about getting it. "thumbsup"

...Question: can I still use the 3-link in the front, or do I have to move to a 4-link?

jetboat

you can still use the 3-link but you will need to modify the servo plate. I highly recommend you switch to 4-link.

I finally got my rig together and was able to test out Jeff's bta......All I can say is WOW. I can't believe the diffrence it made in my approach. It is a major improvement for me.
I did not have 1 problem with it and I HIGHLY recommend one if your using axial axles!
Thanks Jeff!

Your Shipment went out wednesday (I was sick Tuesday otherwise it would have went out then.) I usually like to allow 1 1/2 weeks for shipping as the post office tends to be unpredictable at times.

Got it in the mail from RPP on Friday, and got it installed that day - it looks like the parts are now cast, rather than machined; is that the case?

Still tweaking to find the right servo arm and tie-rod setup and deciding how to deal with keeping the bolts tight enough to avoid slop while being loose enough to still pivot is a challenge... But the extra room and lack of rock-stickin' aluminum tie rod up front sure makes a heck of a difference. "thumbsup"

EDIT: I'm just reading the original thread (http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/showthread.php?t=140241) and I think that will solve all my issues. Awesome. "thumbsup" "thumbsup"

I think the vibration effect of the cleaning machines causes this cast looking effect.
As far as slop I did what Jeff said and tightened up all the way and backed off 1/4 to 1/2 turn. No slop and steers great.

try flanged pipe bushings like in your knuckles in tie rod.that way you can tighten bolt and have no slop or binding.

I have not tested it with a high steer setup. I THINK that it will work, you will just need to not use the spacers but, I cannot guarrentee it.

I have an axial ax10 and have my lower links set on the OUTSIDE of the axle mounts (for better triangulation). Will it get in the way of the steering like that??

jetboat
04-01-2009, 05:10 AM
I would not recommend mounting your lower links outboard (with or without a BTA). It will limit your steering reatly to have them mounted outboard with this setup.

These will not work with the ckrc knuckles because they require a longer link. These are about 5mm short. I believe they will work fine with VP knuckles though.

Bubba73
04-12-2009, 03:28 PM
? You say you don't recomend using this with the stock plastic knuckles, i haven't upgraded these yet. Is this due to them being weak of what? I know the alluminum is better but just wondering?

jetboat
04-12-2009, 05:19 PM
They work just fine with plastic (my mud truck has plastic) The problem is, the stock plastic tend to be weak anyway, then when you put the slight extra torque on it that the BTA gives, your just asking for snaped knuckles.

Also, I know 1 person using ckrc knuckles, are you sure you set them up right?

Not sure anyone has tried but, you should (stress on should) be able to use the kit minus the spacers. I believe the high clearance knuckles raise the tie rod the same height as the spacers.

Are matching rear 4-link plates still available? I see on page 1 you highly recommend switching to 4-link instead of modifying the plate and sticking with 3-link... is that for simplicity's sake, or is 4-link "highly recommended" for both the front and the rear?

Is there a thread on installing your BTA kit? I have made zero modifications to my AX10's suspension so far, so this is a little intimidating.

These parts sound great and have gotten rave reviews as I can see from this thread and others. I'm definitely anxious to jump on board. I assume I just need to unbolt anything that seems to be in the way of your plate and bolt it on... then put rod ends instead of the v/y connector onto those upper links, and mount them to the plate?

I probably don't really need instructions, but a"needed parts" list would be great... I doubt that I'm going to have anywhere near all of the bits and pieces laying around so I've got to figure out what else I need.

jetboat
06-07-2009, 05:48 AM
you pretty much have the grasp of how it goes on, just unbolt and flip your c's/knuckles left to right and backward. Then you just need a couple nuts/bolts. I really cant tell you exactly what size though as different trucks seem to take different bolt lengths.

As for the 4-link, you pretty much just replace the rod ends. I do think I still have 4-link rear plates, havent had a request for them in a LONG time. 4-link has several benifits from better geometry to strength.

jesusthepirate
06-08-2009, 07:57 AM
I don't necessarily need my rear 4-link plate to match, but if you've got them I may as well pick them up at the same time, right?

How much are we looking at to get your normal BTA setup + the rear 4-link plate to my door?

Thanks!

There will be no special orders, small runs etc. Unless another vendor steps up, you will no longer be able to purchase these kits. This is do to personal reasons and has nothing to do with quality, supply, or demand.

Once I drop to 5 kits on hand I will not accept anymore new orders via paypal, the final 5 kits will be limited to orders via PM. Once this time comes, I will post the information.

I appreciate all of the customers that have purchased from me and look forward to working with the RC Crawler community in other ways with potentially new products.
